I just downloaded a a demo for Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss. I got it unzipped
and configured, but can't get it running. Since I have Win95, I exit to DOS mode first.
When I try to start it up, it says:

EMS allocated
cannot run Underworld
could not read data. Error code D001

I then tried disabling EMM386, and then got this message:

cannot run Underworld
Out of EMS memory. Error code C001

If anybody's got a solution, please email me. PLEASE HELP!!! :(

No Underworld I and II (and demo) require EMS

Check to see if it's write protected. Also if you used pkunzip
you have to use the synatx :
pkunzip <filename here> -d <destination here>
otherwise everything gets mangled into a directory.

did you unzip it with the -d switch? that will restore the original directory
structure as i'm pretty sure UUW 1 has several sub dirs

UUW needs EMS memory so you SHOULD use emm386 or Qemm386

Hopes this helps..

Probably need more conventional RAM. Try running the game directly
from START/RUN menu instead of dropping to DOS mode from WIN95.
If that doesn't work, try booting up directly to DOS (<F8> key) and
remove the unnecessary TSRs from your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT, or you
can try setting up a special config file for running UW.

Of the many problems I have, this, fortunately, isn't one of them. ;)
