I did a google for some stars info but got tired of clicking dead links.

Is there a site that still has the lost wealth of information that built up
for this game?

And if anyone has a large personal collection I have a personal server
where I would happily consider grabbing a domain name and putting it all
up. NOTHING should be lost forever on the net!

This is Internet. You can find anything. If you do search and dont
find what you want, then you found a need. Fill it! This is Internet.

You aren't and weren't the only one shocked by the mass of former
glorious stars-sites having gone down.

Some very lively websites
The Stars! FAQ (includes the FAQ and the old Stars-R-Us Article
Database):
http://www.starsfaq.com/index.htm
=> the webiste is inactive but still contains a wealth of knowledge)

Stars! AutoHost (forum, game announcement)
http://starsautohost.org/stars.htm
=> very active

Stars!-Wiki
http://wiki.gible.net/index.php/Main_Page
=> here is actively doen what you proposed: storing and updating
Stars! knowledge plus a huge collection of tools

Small Strat & Tact Site
http://stars.arglos.net/
=> with some helpful links, tools and the Stars! Official Strategy
Guide

I hope this gets you going again...
regards,
Altruist

PS: Gandalf Parker... aren't you a rusty oldtimer from the 90ies which
I try to lure out with my Fldgling Admiral games?
