Having major bloody probs with OpenGL.. No OpenGL games run anymore..

When I try to start the "Alice" demo (based on Q3 engine) or Q3 itself, it
comes up with
this;

****************************************

----- Client Initialization -----
----- Initializing Renderer ----
----- R_Init -----
Initializing OpenGL subsystem
...initializing QGL
...calling LoadLibrary( 'D:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\opengl32.dll' ): succeeded
...setting mode 3: 640 480 FS
...using colorsbits of 16
...calling CDS: ok
...registered window class
...created window@0,0 (640x480)
Initializing OpenGL driver
...getting DC: succeeded
...GLW_ChoosePFD( 16, 16, 0 )
...23 PFDs found
...GLW_ChoosePFD failed
...GLW_ChoosePFD( 16, 16, 0 )
...23 PFDs found
...GLW_ChoosePFD failed
...failed to find an appropriate PIXELFORMAT
...restoring display settings
...WARNING: could not set the given mode (3)
...shutting down QGL
...unloading OpenGL DLL
...assuming '3dfxvgl' is a standalone driver
...initializing QGL
...WARNING: missing Glide installation, assuming no 3Dfx available
...shutting down QGL
----- CL_Shutdown -----
-----------------------
GLW_StartOpenGL() - could not load OpenGL subsystem

****************************************

Am running WinME, Nvidia GeForce 2 GTS card with DX8, Detonator 3 drivers
and also tried running GLSetup as well.. All to no avail..

Any ideas?

Cheers,

D

PS: Apols for the spam - but I am desperate here..

It seems to start here... V

Now under here it shows that it tries to load glide cuz OGl shut down.
Try this out:

Search your HD for opengl.dll Should be in yer C:\Win\System dir
Copy that to your Quake 3 folder. Then try running the game. It seems that
your system didn't realise that yer drivers were there. You can try
RE-installing
them or what I mentioned above :)

Also, if you upgraded from a voodo to the GeForce, your problem could be
there too. :) I have noticed numerous times that 3DFx drivers NEVEr wanna
leave yer system! :)

It looks like you have chosen a 3DFX driver from within the game's video
options menu. Since you have a GeForce card and not a 3DFX based card, you
need to choose either the default OpenGL driver, or if you have an AMD CPU,
the 3DNow! OpenGL driver. I'll bet you used to have a Voodoo card (1,2, or 3)
before, didn't you?

Try removing the line DVA=0 from your win.ini file if it exists
otherwise make sure your desktop is set to at least 16bit color. Right-
click on the background, pick properties, and then click the settings
tab. Play around with the color settings, maybe that's the prob.
