I have tried several times to connect and play a game over the Internet.
(I connect from >Sweden< on a P133 16 MB 28.8Kbps)
It goes fine up to the point where the game begins and I get ready to
kick some ass.
No matter to where I connect(mostly faster servers 2 players or even 15
- I even played alone on a server with this kind of performance), the
game runs to damn slow to be playable - at least on my side of the Net.
Everybody else runs around like they should(and kills me pretty easy)
but my reactions don´t show on screen for about 3-7 second after they´re
made(for example: my last shot - or first >:( - won´t appear until I´m
respawn somewhere else) THAT IS BLOODY ANNOYING !!!!!!!

Now to my question.
What the hell am I doing wrong ?????
Could someone please mail me !!!!!

The only way you can get a better connection is to find a server is Sweden
(If there are any). Or you'd have to get ISDN ar a T1. Hopefully you'll be
able to find a server in Sweden or at least pick one in Europe. Playing
Quake over the Atlantic ocean is kinda slow :)

Funnily enough, my absolute fastest ever ping time (496ms - sounds shit
but it _is_ a Solwise (read: no decent init string) 14.4k modem) was to
a (now defunct) American server.

Bjorn-
It could be any number of things, but first try turning off
compression. This may mean finding a new modem init string. Also,
your provider I assume is on a T1 connection. If not, this too
could be a problem. Your problem should have nothing to do per se
with being in Sweden, as I've played on servers in Finland, Sweden,
Holland, and Hungary so far on my 28.8k modem on an ISP in Texas!
The games were not as responsive as those played in the US, but
still highly tolerable. I've even been #1 a few times in spite
of having high ping time {to Europe}. You can check your ping time by going
to console and typing 'ping'. You can see other people's relative
speed to the server.. the lower the better. Normal modem ping is 200-400,
isdn/T1 90-140, Ethernet (direct connection) 50. Given your description,
you'll see that your ping time will be like 3000 or some ridiculously
high number (3 second delay).

There is a swedish server. It's listed on
finger:ser...@ns.stomped.com
I played on there a while. It's not the fastest server ever, but at
least everyone's more or less equal. No- 140ms ping vs1500ms ping
times.
