here's what i do.
1. open glquake (an faq on the web told me to open q95.bat before i
actually run quake but i cant find that file anywhere. is this
significant?)
2. go to multiplay, then join game, then tcp/ip
3. i enter my friend's IP address, colon, port number:
(we think 26000 is his port number because when we make a game it says
26000 in the port number box and we dont change it.)
so what are we doing wrong? we both live at college, i'm at
Vanderbilt and he's at LSU. right now i'm emailing my college to make
sure they dont have this port behind a firewall. good god i'm
stumped.
you don't need q95.bat that's was for using dos quake which didn't support tcip
via window in the old days. it was used to load tcip drivers for windows use.
you don't need to use the port numbers unless your friend is running the quake
server on a stange port number.
your freind has to be running a game before you can connect
and he has to be running a game as a server before you can connect
not single player but multiplayer acting as a server
make sure any firewalls have been setup to allow quake server/client
to pass and depending on how you and your friend connect to the net
you may need to pinhole (port forward) routers etc. after all that with some
routers quake dosn't work you may have to use quakeworld.
which as more advanced net code remote server control from the console etc.
if your going to use quakeworld you'll need to download both the client and
server if your going to run your own server.
