RANT ON
Ok i'm in Greater Faydark, near CrushBone Tunnel, i'm a ninth level bard,
and there are two Orc Cents, both con blue. So I sneak around to the far
side starting singing Kelins Lugubrious Lament, (for those that don't know
this allows me to 'lull' things so that I can take on one at a time). When,
BANG, in wades a fighter who upon seeing me informs me that 'I have these 2
covered', when I pull my original target, I get a sarcastic message along
the lines of, 'obviously you didn't hear me'.
After killing both Orcs, fighter struts off whilst I try to explain what I
had been doing. Now I am not mad about him tackling orcs, he obviously
hadn't seen me, it was his assumption that he could take both and his
subsequent lack of acknowledgement once I had explained that really p%$^&d
me off.
RANT OFF
Then when I calmed down a bit a started to think maybe I was wrong, but then
again, maybe I wasn't.
So, any opinions, was I right to get narked or not.
Kasalic the SLightly Off Key Bard.
Now much calmer.
As far as this guy being rude...I've found it gets worse the higher level
you get. It seems that after 20th level or so everybody considers
themselves an expert and rudeness becomes second nature. Many of the higher
levels are powerleveling dickweeds that will KS at first opportunity. The
structure of the planes makes this even worse where you have entire elitest
guilds dictating who gets what.

On the upside, you get to laugh when they pull off more than they can chew
because in their rush to beat you they didn't spot the Lego' lurking behind
that tree. (Btw plenty of cents inside CB, and you get an xp bonus when
killing exactly the same mobs but inside a dungeon.)
LOL, another myth. The best kill stealers in the game are enchanters. (Only
deliberately did it once, solo, I stole a con-red mob from a group of six
whom ALL conned-red to me. Pretty cool huh. They stopped stealing from my
group's pulls after that demonstaration). Fortunately it takes some
intelligence to play an enchanter so you don't get too many arseholes
playing them (well except me of course hehe).

*shrug* you either hunt in the wrong areas (some, like HHP, are by common
agreement free for all, therefore by definition you can't kill steal). The
best way to avoid kill stealing is be in a group (wow what a concept, an
on-line game you play with other people.) It was much more annoying before
they changed how groups work wrt kill stealing.

I know *no-one* at high level who deliberately kill steals. This is because
a) there's no point ks-ing off low-levels newbies like you and b) if you try
to kill steal off your peers you'll have trouble getting a group and you
need to group at higher level.

Sounds like you've been reading too much propaganda.

On my server (Druzil Ro) theres rarely more than one group doing the
orcs or the gnolls in HHP. Its more of a problem in the Oasis though.

More annoying? Thats an understament. It was hell. Last may you'd
find these whore wizards sitting on the table in the CB throne room
who would constantly med, stand up and KS when they had the mana and
then go back to medding.
That change had a huge psychological impact too. Many people seemed
to lose the desire to even try and KS (at least in my experience).

I know a lot of high levels who KSed from 1 to 40+ and then suddenly
had a change of heart and conveniently find the error in their ways
when there were suddenly consequences to doing so (since reputation
starts counting for something meaningful). I and many others I know
remember who they are though and I don't cut them any slack. Ever.
"Oh hello Ms KS-gynok-3-times-from-me cleric, you want a teleport/sow
do you? I don't think so."
Generally I wouldn't say anything unless they pestered me. I'd just
ignore them. They're not worth my time.
It seems that a lot of people will go to split servers to try and
escape their bad reputation too.

Don't KS because you wouldn't like someone doing it to you. Its
pretty much that simple. I hate jerks who turn into complete
assholes when they suddenly find anonymity on the net. Its
amazing how that lack of consequences can vastly change people.
*Nod* I agree. And besides it ain't generally fun to KS, except from that
bastards who thought they could get away with constantly kill stealing from
your group just cos we all conned low blue/green to them. Weird how suddenly
they change their attitude to kill stealing.
