ANNOUNCEMENT... sorry about the shouting ;-)

IS UP, RUNNING, AND READY FOR BUSINESS...

OKay, I've now got a good .LMP file for Every Level of DooM II - a
couple of them are a bit slow but most are pretty damn good, check
out LV08-418... incredible. Can you better any of these ... ?

1) Introduction

1) Introduction

Not long ago I noticed (actually I was "made" to notice) that The
DooM (Only?) Site "Infant2" was getting, well, rather full and so
was rejecting certain types of DooM contributions (LMP recordings
were one of the first) and deleting others (eg. the "official" id
upgrade patches - really!) so here is my [temporary] attempt at a
sort of replacement.

* [temporary] now equals on-going !!! :-)

This will begin as just a collection of DooM (and DooM II) .LMP's
that will, hopefully, eventually, depending on the amount of dis-
interest, evolve into a "Competition" to create the very best set
of DooM (and DooM II) .LMP file recordings that "you lot" can put
together.

2) "Site" Info.

FTP to BRAINS.CC.RL.AC.UK
LOGIN as anonymous

Use your own E-MAIL address as the password

CD to PUB/DoomLMPS/...etc...

And then...

First type "BIN" for binary mode...
And have a quick snoop around...
"GET" whatever you like...
The .TXT files first...

Then "QUIT" Out.

0README.1ST, 0README.2ND & COMPET-N.TXT
would be a good choice to begin with... :-)

3) 5 Catagories

Note that in order to view any of the .LMP files from Episodes Two
or Three of DooM (or any of the DooM II .LMP's), you will need the
Registered (or Bought) Version of DooM (or DooM II). However those
of you that only have the Shareware ["Free"] Version of DooM - you
"cheap-skates" - WILL be able to view the .LMP's made from-for the
First Episode of DooM (as well as create your own entries for this
First Episode) but ONLY the .LMP's made from-for the First Episode
of DooM - so NO DooM II .LMP's (or new level .WAD's or etc...) for
you lot! - Come on, be a True Marine and Buy Them!

Here's a (rather) brief run through of each of my suggested DooM (and
DooM II) "Competition" Catagories :-)

Catagory 1 - "The DooM Levels"

Each of the Individual DooM Levels...
Ultra Violence (Only) .LMP Recordings of
Episode 1 Mission 1 thru Episode 3 Mission 9
Starting with just the Pistol and 100% Health
Each Ending with 100% Kills And 100% Secrets

Catagory 2 - "DooM II Levels"

as catagory 1 but this time for DooM II
Each of the Individual DooM II Levels...
Increasing Skill Level .LMP Recordings of
Level 01 right thru to Level 32 of DooM II
Starting with just the Pistol and 100% Health
Each Ending with 100% Kills And 100% Secrets

Catagory 3 - "Quickest Levels"

Each of the Individual DooM Levels...
Quickest Possible!
Right down to the very last Second
Ultra Violence (Only) .LMP Recordings of
Episode 1 Mission 1 thru Episode 3 Mission 9
Starting with just the Pistol and 100% Health
Judged Purely on the Time Taken

Catagory 4 - "Fastest II Levels"

as catagory 3 but this time for DooM II
Each of the Individual DooM II Levels...
Fastest II Possible!
Right down to the very last Second
Increasing Skill Level .LMP Recordings of
Level 01 right thru to Level 32 of DooM II
Starting with just the Pistol and 100% Health
Judged Purely on the Time Taken

Catagory 5 - "Whole DooM Episodes"

Quickest Possible!
Right down to the very last Second
Ultra Violence (Only) .LMP Recordings of
A Whole Episode of DooM - Missions 1 thru 8
Starting with just the Pistol and 100% Health
Judged Absolutely on the Total Time Taken
[ for Missions 1 thru 7 - 8 is "Free" ]

The Main Emphasis here is on the *Time* Taken - with this dictated by
the DooM "Tally Screen" shown at the end of each level completed.

Please, let the tally screen tick through and then wait 10-20 seconds
before cleanly quitting the game to record your level.

The One Hard "Competition" Rule! - 1 of 1 :-
If the Time Taken can NOT be Clearly Seen - It'll be DISqualified !!!

And this is where I usually add...
Except for "Rule" 2 of "1" ;-) Please, Absolutely NO "Pause-ing" OK !

But I'll modify this to ...

NO Pause-ing on single levels except for
Only 1*1 min Pause on a difficult DooM II Level
I was going to say NO Pause-ing on complete Episodes but...
No excessive Pausing, any more than 1*3 or 3*1 min Pauses - Auto-DISq
