I heard a week ago that Arnold Schwarzeneggar will star in Doom: The
Movie. I was really disappointed. I had been hoping that Bruce Willis
would be the marine. Arnold just seems to nice to me anymore, after a
movie like Junior.
It might just be that Arnold is just to stiff as an actor and Willis is a
better actor.

Arnold just goes through his movies dominating everything standing
straight. But I picture Willis as more of a scrappy, street-fighter, all
bloodied and each bit of pain just pissing-him off all the more.

damn.. Arnold Schwarzeneggar. Are you sure?

I was really hoping for Bruce Campbell. You just can't beat Evil Dead for
shear asskickin action.

Yeah. No one beats Cambell at getting pissed off.:) I just can't picture
him in the role. He doesn't look to be the space marine type. Oh well.

Take a look at the space marine in Doom ... Bruce Willis?

- I don't think so -

That's Arnold all the way. Besides, how much does the guy
in Doom talk? Bruce Willis is more a Duke kind of guy.

It's amazing how typed-casted both of these actors are now :). What they
should do is exploit Doom's deathmatch feature and have Arnold, Stallone and
Willis blasting monsters and hunting down each other :).

Yeah, been waiting for some info on DooM: The Hollywood Version.

What the HELL is the film gonna be about? Can't think of any believable
or interesting plots for a film where a thousand marines die, and then
one ALONE, destroys all of HELL and the Icon of Sin. It's gonna have
to be far fetched. Anyone know anything more?

No no no. For Duke, the PERFECT guy would be Kurt Russell. Doesn't
anyone else think Escape From LA looks like a Duke Nukem movie?
Just the way Kurt Russell talks, the first trailer I saw for it I was

Doh! I just assumed that Kurt Russell was doing a poor imitation of
Clint Eastwood.. silly me! Kurt should stop trying to be an action
hero, they had to put Steven Seagal in his last movie because the
studio was afraid that he couldn't carry the film by himself. :)

Bite your tongue off! I always felt that DooM was programmed *in the
first place* so that Arnold could play this part in a movie :-) I can
see him now, cooly putting a rocket in his launcher while facing a
Baron from Hell: "Well, you look like a pretty strong boy. Here,
let's play catch... whooooooshhhhh.......

True, he comes off as the underdog better and I, too, like the way
that he fights back when he's cornered. It would be great if these
guys would co-star in this thing. There's no hard and fast rule that
says that there just has to be one guy (they need a *plot* after all,
and this would still be true to DooM- they'd be playing coop ;-) And
this isn't such a far-fetched idea because these guys are good friends
and business partners already (they are co-owners of Planet Hollywood,
I think). They'd have a blast doing this together (literally :-)
Just a bunch of wild speculation, but who knows...

Tell you what, go read some of the books and then you can tell us :-)

I haven't bothered to pick any of them up, although I've gotta say the
curiosity is getting to me.

BTW, a movie is going to be "too far fetched"? That'll be the day ...
Hollywood puts out a far fetched movie. Hmmm.

To which the Hell Baron replies by ripping his heart of his chest,
handing it to him, and then scattering the rest in little Eastwood bits
across the landscape.

Yes, sounds great to me, and guess who's the perfect match to direct
this movie: JAMES CAMERON, of course. The genius behind two of the
most successfull action movies to date: Aliens (any better similarity
to Doom, anyone?) and Terminator 2- Judgment Day.

God, I would've loved to see that. It HAD to be a killer movie!

the only chance the DooM movie has is to HAVE NOTHING AT ALL TO DO WITH
THE GAME. The only similarities you can have to be successful is: 1) the
name (maybe, might be better to change to something like DOOM: Road to
Hell) and 2) have it about a space marine of the future going through
hell and back. And, please, _NO_ look alike monsters! That would look soo
idiotic, the film would be destined to as big a failure as the street
fighter movie.

oh, I guess the other possibility is to do a Mortal Kombat thing, where
they said, "ok, we got the guys from the game to star, can they act? No?
ok, We'll have zero plot what-so-ever, and just have a lot of fighting
scenes. Afterall, kids love fighting scenes, and hey, kids love music
videos right? We'll just have the movie one big music video..!!"

anyways, thats my view on the doom movie. I certianly expect that, if the
doom movie isn't already scraped, they will have to do some creative
writing to try to make ANOUTHER video game movie a sucess, and rise above
all the other failures...

Totally different idea here. I (from day one) could see the doom marine
as noone but Bruce Campbell. Hell, that little face in the status bar
even looks like him: big eyebrows/ big chin. And not to mention the
freakin chainsaw. I honestly thought doom was a "game" version of
Evil Dead. Not a bad rap in my opinion. As well, alot of the 'stretched
skin' textures remind one of the Necronimicon.

I could see Campbell having alot of fun with imps and such. Plenty of
opportunity for one-liners.

To me, it's perfectly clear what the cast & story should be:
4-player coop game with Arnold, Bruce Willis, Steven Seagal and Bruce
Campbell with Campbell later being caught by the dark side (and then
deciding to make it a deathmatch!). Of course he'll have to find the
chainsaw first.

OutFstanding! Okay, DooM the Co-op movie dream team:

Arnold Schwarzeneggar
Sylvester Stallone
Bruce Willis
Bruce Campbell
Kurt Russel
Henry Rollins
Tom Berringer.

It would be a cool team, wide variety of characters, and enough
members to die off along the way. My question for Kurt Russel
is which type of character would he be? Think of Stargate, Escape
from NY, and Big Trouble in Little China.

Actually, now that I think about it, Stallone and Dolph Lungren(sp?)
could be sergeants or chaingunners.

Wait a minute, we need four actors if we're gonna have a true DeathMatch
blast fest..... How about Bruce Campbell (Evil Dead, Army Of Darkness)?

I want to see Arnie with a sawed off double barreled shotgun
go one on one with a bald, huge dude with a chaingun while tons
of possesed marines get caught in the middle getting mowed down.
Other than that, no monsters from Doom, (maybe the big robo-spider
brain) just Arnie vs. undead humans and get H.R.Geiger to draw some
cool evil looking deamons.

I REALLY think that Bruce Campbell would be PERFECT for this role. If
you don't remember, he starred in Army of Darkness.

Bruce Campbell was awesome in Army of Darkness! If you want attitude and a guy
that can say stupid shit with a straight face (like "Nobody's gonna steal our
chicks") then Bruce would be perfect in a Duke movie. I like Bruce Willis
better in the Doom movie. He seems a lot more like a reluctant hero than
Arnold ever will. If you read the text between episodes in Doom, a reluctant
hero is what the game is all about. Just when you think it is over, it begins
again. Great angle for a sequel too.

Bruce Willis would do the best job playing the part. Just imagine him

Wait, wasn't that the plot to Independance Day? Seriously though, the
single man versus an army has been done so many times (Rambo, Commando,
Hard Target, Under Seige, Die Hard, etc. into infinity....) that I don't
think anyone would notice. If you would like to see a decent account of
how the Doom movie might play out, read the first Doom novel, Knee Deep In
The Dead. (Skip the other three though, they suck.)

Yeah, why no real DooM monsters? If SFX dudes can make us believe we
are watching velociraptors in kitchens, why can't they make a big fat
cyberdemon and an arch vile, and a herd of revenants. Some stampeding
spectres would be nice (like Predator!) and there has to be the Icon

Right on, dude. Use the same technology they used for those
"gallimimus"dinos for the demons(Both walk the same way, though the
demon's more of a powerwalk than running), use the tech of T.Rex to make
ol' cybiehead. In fact, the first time I heard the Doom movie rumor, I
envisioned a scene for it. I can just imagine the camera 20 feet
above the ground, desert scene, a Cyberdemon stomping in from the right,
head and shoulders in view, stopping, then swinging around to the right to
face away from the camera while lifting his left missile arm and roaring,
then launching the trademark 3 missiles at 2 people running like mad in
the distance.

Then the camera cuts to where the 2 guys are, they're running like mad,
praying that those missiles arent guided, simultaneously wondering how
big the detonation will be, then they hit the deck, 3 missile woosh by
them with that sound in those old war movies, and exploding beyond them
with a deafening roar. Then they jump out, and fire a couple of shotgun
blasts in his direction, and no effect, so they switch to the rocket
launcher(it would be best if they use the one Arnie had in T2, the one
with the little "D"cell rockets)...

Then then the camera cuts back to the cyberdemon, you can see his face,
and how he's getting Pissed that he missed...

Cant wait till this movie comes out. :-)

Wait, more ideas! The missile injure an Archie vile(Who was in the middle
of cooking up an Arch-Deluxe :-D)... then the 2 marines see flames
flikering under the cyberdemon's hoofs... they turn around and see a little
magic act being put on behind them...

is the shambler then? He does exactly the same, just looks different.

After my most recent post that had that same question (in a different

There could be a few from the story that sets the scene for the movie tho.
I'm sure there would be some intro about how UAE screwed up. Half the
movie may deal with this, with the rest just having the protag.'s klll one
of each monster. U know how they do.

Oops, sorry there. Forgot that the Arch Vile could perform necromantic

A year or so ago, Jay Wilbur did an interview with PC Gamer where this
point was discussed. At the time, it was definitely on the cards that
there would be a 'romantic interest' in the film, a survivor from the
initial attack.

No, No, No, Hollywood couldn't have a movie without a chick! It just
isn't possible.

I think a girl in the DooM movie would be cool, like Vasquez in Aliens.
Have All the people everyone has been suggesting, Arnold, Van Damme,
Bruce Cambell, etc. And have all the monsters! I would love to see a
Cyber-Demon on a movie! The only question is who would be the final
Marine to survive? And be sure to kill the characters slowly, don't just
have them all die in one scene and have one left. It would be to boring!
AND DON'T HAVE ARNOLD BE THE FINAL SUVIVOR! please!

Almost as important as the question of who will star in the Doom movie
is who will direct it?

My vote goes to John Woo. Watch HARD BOILED, substitute in your mind
Imps, Cacodaemons, etc for the arms dealers, and tell me it all doesn't
look like a Doom episode.

How 'bout computer Generated mosters? I mean, trying to create a robotic
(or even a guy in a costume!!) Cyberdemon would look soooo lame. I think
that CGI might actually do that game justice... and hey, they looked great
in flicks like Jurassic Park, etc.. plus, they are relatively cheap to
make (or so I'm told...)

I could see a CG Arch-Vile sprinting after arnold, who is desperately
trying to reload a postol (or whatever) to get rid of the baddie...

Somethings to keep out of the game might be the Arch-vile's resurections,
which would look cheesy!!, and maybe the the BGF, which would look pretty
silly...
