It is with pleasure that I announce the formation of the Capital Chinese
Chess Club (CCCC), in cooperation with the Chinese Cultural and
Community Center (CCACC). The initial gathering of this club will be on
Saturday, May 4, from 7 to 11 p.m., at the Tilden Middle School on Old
Georgetown Road in Rockville MD, and will meet thereafter every Saturday
evening during the scholastic year (roughly Labor Day to early June).

CCCC welcomes all Chinese Chess enthusiasts to visit -- this is an open
invitation; you may come any time any Saturday between 7 and 11 p.m. We
have already gathered many veterans who plan to play; we also have a
strong Vietnamese delegation (who scored the highest among non-Chinese
speaking players at the Fourth World Xiangqi Championship in Singapore
last September) who will join us regularly. Depending on interest, there
will be lectures to beginners, the schedule for which has yet to be
firmed up.

During this time period (Saturday, 7-11 p.m.) the CCACC has exclusive use
of the facility -- together with several hundred parking spaces in a well
lit area on the school grounds. Rockville is a suburb of Washington DC;
the middle school is but a block away from a Beltway exit.

To maximize use of this vast facility, CCACC schedules a host of programs
simultaneously -- e.g., basketball, table tennis, and martial arts for
the young; flower arrangement, Chinese painting, and calligraphy for the
artistically inclined; lending library and movies; and, beginning May 4,
Chinese chess. Members of the community are welcome -- including
families -- since there are always an event to which a family member
would find interesting.

Should you plan to go (any Saturday, not necessarily May 4), please drop
me an e-mail so that I may advise you of directions. I'll post
additional information as I have them, including plans to hold
tournaments, etc.
