I have been having some difficulty contacting the administrator of the
chess.uoknor.edu ftp site. Chris Petroff had been the maintainer for
some time, but he hasn't responded to mail recently. Since from
earlier today (at least), attempts to access the site produce the
message "unknown host".

Does anyone have any information about the current status of the site?
The site has been very popular with many users and it would be sad
news if it were unavailable for an extended period. Perhaps it is
time to consider an additional mirror site in North America for chess
data.

I have about 35 Mbyte of tablebase data I would like to make available
for free access via ftp, so I need a site for deposit. Perhaps the
administrator of the European chess ftp site could contact me for
arrangement of details.

I think the ftp site has changed names. I noticed this a few weeks ago
when, after I ftp'ed to chess.uoknor.edu, an "alias" for the site came up.
I made a note of it and it seems to work for me OK. Try
"romulus.ucs.uoknor.edu". Don't ask me why they changed the name to this
cryptic name.

The new Internet chess server telnet address is
ics.onenet.net 5000 I don't know if this is
the ftp ADDRESS but I think I saw some not there that
it is. i.e some note there. Tim in Alabama
