Hi all,
For those of you interested in strong PC chess programs, here is some
more information on the HIARCS program which so convincingly won the Uniform
Platform Tournament ahead of MChess Pro.
HIARCS is a prototype of the soon to be released version 2 upgrade (HIARCS2.0).
The program is performing extremely well against both PC programs and
dedicated chess machines.
Provisionally, Hiarcs seems to be 50 Elo stronger than MChess Pro on 386 and
about even with Chess Genius at the faster time controls. I only have the
two full tournament games againt MChess Pro in the Uniform Platform tournament
to go on and that ended 1.5-0.5 in HIARCS' favour so I can't draw too much
about their relative strengths at tournament time controls from that.
The program has maintained 60%+ against a strong International Master who is
helping with the positional aspects of HIARCS' knowledge.

The program has a much improved UI with mouse support for gadgets, drop down
menus and multiple move entry methods. It will be release in the UK on 20th
Sept.
