I would like to make a short comment on the last PCA/Intel-blitz-tournament. I'm very impressed
by Fritz 3's performance during that event, and we chess-computer enthusiasts couldn't hope for a
better result (except for Fritz winning the tournament, that is!). It just shows how strong today's
high-end chess programs are in speed chess and blitz. Fritz 3 was running on a Pentium/90 which should
boost its strength significantly (the program examined about 100.000 pos. sec! It almost sounds too
good to be true. I really look forward to seeing this program on SSDF's blitz-list!). But chess
programs running on far slower 486 PCs are generally very tough blitz-opponents, often playing over 200
points above their tournament-strength! I wonder what Chess Genius 2, which is rated at over 2.600 ELO
on the SSDF blitz-list, could achieve on a powerful Pentium/90?
Finally, I must say that I find it very interesting and positive that Intel has chosen to support PCA
and chess. I hope they (Intel and PCA) will let more computers participate in human tournaments (without
having to pay a fortune), because that will make it easier for us 'computer-raters' to evaluate the true
playing-strength of the computers.
Have a nice summer!
Greetings,
Mads Brevik

Ooops! I have to correct myself: The SSDF-list is NOT being released twice a month, but 8 times
a year! Sorry!
