Hi,
How will dropped matches be handled?
1. Autoresolved after a period of time?
2. match forfeited by the dropper after a few minutes?
3. Nothing, just accept droppers as a fact of life?
IMO, "a wonderful experience" would have to include not having some
clown leave the match when I am a couple of pips away from the win, or
at least a solution when that does occur.
I tried out FIBS for a couple of months because I heard how great it was
on rgb, and for the most part it was great, but I stopped playing there
because I got tired of droppers screwing me out of wins. I realize that
they are a minority of the players at FIBS, most of the players there
were wonderful to play with, but drops happened too many times for me to
say that I had an overall wonderful experience.
If there is some sort of resolution to the inevitable, I might try it
out as my #2 site after GamesGrid.

GameSite 2000 incorporate "Dropper-Stopper" features. You can find all the
detail on the Web : http://www.gamesite2000.com/players_button.htm. But here
is quickly how it works :
If a player has 5 or more games to resume, he can not start any new match
until he has played a move in each game it is his turn to play. The opponent
can still one move in the game (but dont have to if he has less than 5
unfinished matches).
This allow the player to keep control over their matches. We beleive that
this will reduce the dropper problem.

When I visited today there were 8 Backgammon players there.
One was willing to play, two were not. A fair amount of banter was going on in the
public chat area.
Maybe you went there before anyone else had a chance to make the trip.

I found the 'Dark Wood' Layout on my system worked quite well, didn't have too much
trouble spotting the checkers.

I had trouble running the client on my machine, but it worked fine on my daughters.
Beta software though.
This appears to be a very good start for a new server. I wonder how much 'room'
there is for more BG servers vying for a limited number of players?

Please note this is a multiple game site.. there is also Chess and
Reversi(Othello)
A good point well taken.
I did note however that at this early stage, BG players account for about 80%
of the logged in players.
Chess had the rest and othello had none!
Maybe BG players are early adopters (or lonely souls lol).
Apologies if my earlier post upset any chess players, I didn't notice I was
replying to multiple newsgroups. Silly me!
