gens una sumus !?

Hello world,

sometimes i read the words "gens una sumus" related to chess players or the
fide.
Can anyone help me, i have no idea about the meaning of this words.
So what does it mean?

I think that it means "We are one Family".

Dear M. Hering,

Although I always see it translated into English as "We are one family", I
prefer to translate it as "We are one people".
