Our Stan Booz is taking a bit of a rest, and it is nice of USCF
board member Randy Bauer to let us know he is "good for it" ($100
pledge for the grude match). We weren't sure.
Meanwhile, the deafening silence from Mr. Booz about taking a lie
detector test astonishes few here. We knew the man would never, ever,
ever back up his charges that Don Schultz was behind the Natrol deal or
that Mr. Schultz told him at the National Open in Las Vegas that the
deal would rake in $50,000.
The awful thing about this liar is that unless he faces a
polygraph, he will get away with yet more false charges. His moral
cowardice is striking.
The only responses from his embarrassed supporters have been that
either Mr. Booz was manipulated or karmacized by this writer. And there
are the usual calls for everyone to pull together and not be divisive,
to put all this behind us and move forward.
But there is no call from Randy Bauer, Beatriz Marinello or any
of that crowd for accountability. None of those people have had the
basic decency to write, "Stan lied through his teeth. We know that. We
wish he had not, but he did. We don't know how to get him to do the
right thing. We figure he is not good for it in this case."
DRIVING USCF INTO THE GRAVEYARD
>If you need me, contact me through Bill Brock.> Sam Sloan
The discussion that I began was about what appeared here on rgcp and
over at fide-chess forum. Sam's language is far cleaner than that of a
Bill Brock and his fellow obsessionists over "kiddie fuckers" and sex.
As for the cited instances of Sam using the f-word at other
sites, they were mild compared with the filthy locutions -- the
inventive twistings of the f-word -- by Mr. Brock. He is the worst of
all the non-anonymice who have beset this forum, with Stan Booz running
a close second. They represent the kind of people who are driving the
USCF into the graveyard.
One good thing, I suppose: his record of filth will be made
known to voters if and when he decides to run for the Executive Board
against ... Sam Sloan.
That will be a campaign, all right.

Stan's pledge was $200, not $100.
Sam has already denied writing that.

Details, details -- don't let simple facts get in the way of a good Larry
rant.
Randy Bauer
Mr. Parr, who is fond of deriding others' research skills, is
apparently unable to recognize facts even when they are held up before
his eyes. Here again are some examples (just a few of many) of Sam
Sloan's "cleaner, milder" locutions, which elsewhere Mr. Parr has tried
to explain as mere "lack of manners":
http://tinyurl.com/bqczh
http://tinyurl.com/bj2rp
http://tinyurl.com/aosmw
I emphatically do NOT endorse the foul language used by Brock or
Booz, and I offer no opinion on their political records or candidacies
in the USCF. However, I do think USCF voters should be fully aware of
Sloan's racist obscenities, and of the hypocrisy Parr shows in trying
to excuse or soft-pedal them.
<Stan's pledge was $200, not $100. Details, details -- don't let simple
facts get in the way of a good Larry rant.> Randy Bauer
Honest Randy Bauer has nothing to say on the subject and will not
answer questions. And, too, the boring results and radon results at
the site of the proposed new, small building in Cross-to-Bear have not
been made public.
But these are honest guys, mind you. Honest guys.
Stan Booz charged Don Schultz with being behind the Natrol decision
and with having told him at the National Open in Las Vegas that the
USCF would pick up $50,000.
Don Schultz wants a lie dectector test with the two men asked
direct questions about Mr. Booz's claims. Mr. Booz wants to ask many
other questions and will not get involved, it appears, unless this
writer travels 12,000 miles to some point on the East Coast to be
tested. Others may also be required to sit for testing.
In short, Mr. Booz will never, ever, ever consent to a
polygraph examination about evidently false accusations which he knew
were false.
The statements were inane on their face.
So Mr. Booz is AWOL a bit, having been told, one thinks, to
shut up. Bill Brock suggested he was being manipulated or, perhaps,
karmacized by this writer. My view is that Mr. Booz is not quite the
baboon Mr. Brock imagines and can make his own statements clearly
enough.
But Mr. Booz has shut up about taking a lie detector
examination. He won't take my bet of $1,000 or Joel Channing's bet of
$2,000.
Nor will Mr. Booz's supporters, who don't want such an
examination and will not answer whether the new executive director was
employed by or involved with Natrol in some capacity. Was there any
kind of relationship?
Mr. Schultz asked for a report to be made by the president
about what was behind the Natrol decision. The Board majority has thus
far refused to deliver such a report. The membership is not to be
told, though if the elections go as they appear to be going, we will
eventually get the facts.
There has been no answer on Natrol.
One suspects it was a deal brought to the USCF by the new executive
director, who may have been involved with the company in some capacity.
Is the Board majority is covering up just as they covered up the
architect's contract for $60,000 and the costs zooming for the small
new building in Cross-to-Bear?
<Where is Stan - btw - oh! - that's right, he hangs out with the
politicals.> Michael Adams.
Why has Stan Booz not shown his face lately in these precincts? He
used to post a whopper a day. Was he ordered to take a powder by USCF
president Beatriz Marinello and her cohorts?

He's been out of town a lot. Minneapolis, Las Vegas, Chicago, and South
Dakota. And when I'm back I've got so much work to catch up on that I just
don't have the time to give you new fodder for your spin gun.

You must be talking about Schultz. Let's ask him why he was forced to resign
as board Secretary. While we're at it, let's ask him how he got a complete
USCF mailing list. That's the one that includes the names and addresses of
people that opted to have their names kept private and not be sold to
advertisers, etc. Did Bill Goichberg steal it when he was ED? Did Mike Nolan
provide it? Perhaps someone else in the office provided it.
Make no mistake about it, this was an unauthorized use of confidential
names. One also wonders if he paid the standard fee to use the mailing list.
My little joke about the Natrol issue pales to this conversion of USCF
property for personal gain. Anyone still wondering where Bill Goichberg got
his E-mail list of USCF members?

Dear Stan, how outrageous you are, sought of like claiming I was
somehow involved in the Natrol scandal.
First let me set the record straight, for those who believe, like Stan
apparently does that I am bankrolling Joel Channings campaign. No I am
not. Joel's mailings were paid for by him and I know he paid the
standard fees for the mailing addresses which was over $1,000 to the
USCF.
So Stan, you have done it again!
Not talking about Channing. Talking about how you got those confidential
addresses. Care to share. Did your resignation have anything at all to do
with it?
Stan: I have ZERO idea what u r talking about. Y not be more clear.
Let's get to the bottom of this.
Confidential addresses???? You obviously must have some iota of
something to base your words on . . . well on second thought maybe not.

<My little joke about the Natrol issue pales to this conversion of

president Beatriz Marinello
There we have it. Stan Booz has made another "little joke."
Ever since Don Schultz made a move to ask for a lie detector test
that would resolve two different stories told, respectively, by Stan
Booz and himself; and ever since Joel Channing and this writer
annotated the move with offers of, respectively, bets of $2,000 and
$1,000; well, ever since this combination was played, Stan Booz has
been in bad time trouble searching for a defense.
At first Mr. Booz told us he was too busy to respond to my "spin."
But for a couple of years he has never been short of time to extrude
four-letter excremental imagery. Then, when the stakes became a bit
higher, the man -- a self-styled tough guy with plenty of macho -- fled
the front lines.
We have our retraction after a fashion: Don Schultz was not
behind the Natrol decisions and did not tell him at the National Open
that the Federation stood to make $50,000 from the deal. It was all a
"little joke."
No wonder Randy Bauer and others in the claque did not want Mr.
Booz to take a lie-detector test. They are all a bunch of low flying
birds.
WHERE DO WE STAND?
A bit earlier Stan booz said that although he was telling the
truth, he would not take a lie detector test unless this writer
travelled 12,000 miles and a whole raft of other issues were included.
His supporters such as Randy Bauer found the idea of a lie detector
test to be counterproductive because, well, he and the board majority
already knew that Mr. Booz was lying through his teeth.
Mr. Booz has levelled a new accusation against Don Schultz
that the man himself does not appear to understand. So Mr. Booz will
now get back to his source (Beatriz Marinello?) as he puts it, to frame
the accusation so that it is at least comprehensible, whether true or
not.
One wonders where candidate George John stands when it comes to
such hideous public lying that never seems to stop.
You have f-word-instrumentalist Bill Brock out in Chicago and
s-word excrementalist Booz somewhere in Pennsylvania. Both men, who
are certified public accountants, represent the type of crude,
dishonest mentality currently befouling Caissa's realm in America.
What about the n-word guy? (That would be Sam Sloan, the fellow
without a superego.) And his friend who doesn't seem to mind the
n-word? (That would be Larry Parr.)
Remember, folks: Larry Parr has no problem with Sam Sloan's continual
celebration of child molestation (Google "Japanese virgins" and look at
the top five hits: www.ishipress.com/brooklynboy.htm was #2 in today's
search); however, using naughty phrases like "kiddie-f****r" is bad bad
bad.
Which is the "crude, dishonest mentality"?

Posters should be more clear when they are joking, and should avoid
making serious accusations they can't back up. I might add they should
also avoid using propaganda techniques, excessive hyperbole, and the
twisting and distorting of the truth to fit one's hidden (or not so
hidden) agenda.
Where do you stand WRT Sam Sloan's comments made about me? The most
recent is "George John is personally responsible for the huge financial
losses the USCF has suffered because of George John's wrong advice."
Since you are a supporter of Sam Sloan, I would appreciate your

Larry practices false witness by rewriting other folks words and going on as
if that was what they actually implied.
Funny how shocked they are by that and how undisturbed they are by Sam's
malicious mischief and Larry's propaganda.. Oh I forgot, if true, Don just
didn't want to pile on.

Why would a candidate want to send mailings to members who have
requested that their addresses be kept confidential? Such mailings
would seem likely to produce a negative reaction. If the office
included such addresses in Joel Channing's label order, this was a
serious error and Joel's candidacy may have been unfairly damaged.

Frankly, I don't follow every post on this forum. If Sam wrote
that, he obviously must believe it. I disagree with him. It's silly and
preposterous. Such statements only weaken his credibility as a
candidate.
But unlike Stan Booz, who serves on the finance committee, Sam has
no official position with the USCF. Our resident CPA, is an official
spokesman for USCF president Beatriz Marinello, and her utter refusal
to publicly denounce his lies speaks volumes about her leadership and
credibility.

He may very well. If he does, this is a clear sign, IMHO, that he is,
at least sometimes, disconnected from reality.

Good. Yes, it's a Catch 22 for him. He is either lying or believes
something that is completely without foundation.

True, but *you* want him elected to a far more significant position
(USCF Executive Board member) than Co-Chair of the USCF Finance
Committee. A majority of the Executive Board can change the
composition of the Finance Committee at any time. An Executive Board
member, once elected, is on board for four years (the USCF has no
provision for the removal of a USCF Executive Board members).

I am unaware of this position, "official spokesman for [the] USCF

Yes, I did make that statement and I stand by it.
George John with his false claims of expertize on various subjects
that he knows little about, including chess, has caused the USCF to
suffer enormous financial losses.
For example, George John endorsed spyware on US Chess Live. Do a
Google search on 2000 and 2001 and you will see that George John
repeatedly says that the spyware on US Chess Life was acceptable.
George John got the board to set an impossible-to-meet demand that
Mike Cavallo complete the upgrade of the USCF's computer system within
ONE MONTH.
When Cavallo could not meet the one month deadline, George John had
Cavallo fired, claiming "I called it the way I saw it."
Then, when DeFeis came in, George John made no mention that DeFeis did
nothing, zero, to upgrade the computer system which had been
considered so important previously.
DeFeis lost the USCF one million dollars, all on George John's watch,
about which George John said nothing and continues to say nothing.
It was only since Bill Goichberg became Executive Director that
serious work started getting done on upgrading the computer system by
Gary Prince and Mike Nolan. George John had nothing to do with this.
The person who could, would and should be elected to the board is Mike
Nolan. Unfortunately, he is not running.

All,
Sam Sloan's post contains statements about me which have been
previously rebutted in detail by me and others on rgcp. Normally, I
would let this go unanswered, but since we are in the middle of an
election, I will answer again on each point.

I did not endorse or recommend any agreement with GamesParlor and all
were made without my knowledge. I was a beta tester of the client
software. When I learned it contained Radiate technology, and based on
information I found on www.grc.com, I expressed my opinion that the use
of this technology in the client was unacceptable. It was quickly
dropped.
The decision to substitute the Conducent technology was also made
without my input or endorsement. While this technology was far from
perfect, it didn't have the same issue as the Radiate technology which
I found so unacceptable. The Conducent technology was in use on an
estimated eight million plus systems, and there was not a single report
of any problems anywhere that I or anyone else could find of actual
harm caused by this technology.
I did advocate for better disclosure of the "adware" in the USCL
client, and got it.
In general I was never comfortable with the USCL deal, had major
misgivings with how it was deployed, disliked every contact I ever saw,
and there were other issues which I would prefer to not discuss in
public. For the sake of the USCF and its membership, I had hoped
things would work out, but was never confident they would. I am glad
the relationship has ended.
>
> George John got the board to set an impossible-to-meet demand that
> Mike Cavallo complete the upgrade of the USCF's computer system within

This is false. Cavallo voluntarily set the deadline for a project that
had been ongoing for over a year. He acted with total confidence that
the deadline would be easily met. At the meeting I attended, there was
no pressure other than to give some deadline that was real.
> When Cavallo could not meet the one month deadline, George John had
> Cavallo fired, claiming "I called it the way I saw it."
The USCF Executive Board voted 8-0 on the matter. I was unaware of the
motion or the vote until it was reported in the minutes. Cavallo had
an ongoing history of missed deadlines on this project. The Smith
board finally held him accountable, as any responsible Executive Board
should do, and something the Schultz/Goichberg administration did not
do, IMO.
>
> Then, when DeFeis came in, George John made no mention that DeFeis did

I commented on this extensively both publically and privately. I
consider the failure to make major progress on the software upgrade,
other than some planning, a major failure of the Smith, Redman, and
McCrary administrations.
> DeFeis lost the USCF one million dollars, all on George John's watch,
> about which George John said nothing and continues to say nothing.
During my so-called watch, I was the chair of the Internet/Computer
Committee and was advocating as best as I could for the software
productivity upgrade. One reason I chose to run for the Board in 2001
was I was getting nowhere with raising the priority of this project to
the level I thought it deserved. I was told I would have a better
chance to make this happen as a board member. If 12 people had voted
for me instead of Frank Brady, I would have found out if that was true
or not.
> It was only since Bill Goichberg became Executive Director that
> serious work started getting done on upgrading the computer system by

This is again false. Gary Prince and I were on the phone *a lot*
discussing this and other projects, and Mike and I have exchanged our
share of e-mail messages over the years, *prior* to Bill Goichberg
becoming ED. More significantly perhaps, soon after she became
President, and well before Bill Goichberg became ED, Beatriz Marinello
and I exchanged e-mail messages and had a phone conversation that
lasted about two hours where we extensively discussed the need for the
software upgrade, and how it might best be accomplished.
I think that was a first for me. Although I had been on the
Internet/Computer Committee from 1997-2003, and its chair from
1999-2003, I never had a discussion like this with Schultz, Smith,
Redman, or McCrary. I don't think any of them TRULY understood how
important this was for the USCF. President Marinello did. Yes, she
has made some mistakes, but on the two big issues of fiscal
responsibility and the getting the office upgraded, she has done a
great job, and she deserves our thanks.
> The person who could, would and should be elected to the board is Mike
> Nolan. Unfortunately, he is not running.
While I think Mike would make a fine Executive Board member, IMHO,
currently he is best serving the federation exceptionally well as a
software developer and in his several advisory positions. I would fear
that his being on the EB would distract him from this vital work.
Fortunately, my slate will be clean when my term as the Texas Chess
Association President ends on Labor Day, and I'm ready to go to work
for the USCF membership.
Sincerely,
George John
Are you friends with that Texas Chess Software Developer who raped and
abused that woman a few months ago? Didn't he use you as a reference? Wasn't
the woman he raped a Chess Tournament official?? What was your connection to
the rapist?
<It takes real integrity to admit your mistakes and take responsibility
for your actions. Bravo, Beatriz.> Matt Nemmers
In her self-serving message about Natrol, Beatriz Marinello
accuses Stan Booz of lying, in effect.
Mr. Booz told all of you that Don Schultz was
behind the Natrol decision. Mrs. Marinello states
that the other executive board members had no
knowledge of the agreement. Mr. Booz also wrote that
Mr. Schultz told him at the National Open that the
agreement would bring $50,000 to the Federation -- an
agreement that Mrs. Marinello now states Mr. Schultz
and other Board members were unaware of!
We now understand why Mr. Booz finally claimed
to be making another of his little "jokes." Though,
to be sure, he earlier claimed to be telling the truth
and would take a lie detector test if this writer and
many others would be called to testify on extraneous matters.
Finally, the pressure became so great that Mr.
Booz came up with his accustomed it was all a joke line.
How exquisitely shabby. One assumes that the
four on the ticket will ritualistically nod toward Mr.
Booz and tut-tut him, as Mr. John did, about not
making bad jokes, etc. Whereas Mr. John himself and
the others know that Mr. Booz is a squalid liar.
Is Mr. Booz equally honest in his professional
life as he has been on rgcp and fide-chess group?
As for the cost of the move, the price of a
building that will be the equivalent in size of the
one in New Windsor will mount to about a million
bucks. The total cost of the move will come to Sam
Sloan's earlier estimate of about $750,000. It will
take the better part of a decade to make up this mess.
So, then, what are the results of the borings
into bedrock on the Federation's "land" in
Cross-to-Bear? What about Radon testing? What about
the phony claim of saving $50,000 by not paving the
delivery area at the steep back entrance?
WHAT IS THE ROLE OF THE NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR IN THE NATROL
DECISIONS? WAS HE AN EMPLOYEE OR EVER ASSOCIATED WITH NATROL --
ARRAIGNED FOR LEAD IN ITS
PRODUCTS -- IN ANY WAY?
No answer to this last question is yet forthcoming!

Natrolgate! Is this even worse than the Crossville wetlands scandal,
Larry?
Don't worry, I'm sympathetic. I'd be cranky, too, if I spent all day
bowing and scraping for an Asian billionaire.
Your pal,
Charles
Why do you feel the need to put your post with a different subject matter
in a reply to that last post with that offensive subject line? Are you
endorsing
that anon posters sentiments?

Larry Parr, Sam Sloan's chief advisor, says I'm an "official" spokesman?

People opt out to avoid direct mail advertising. Unlikely that anu would be
offended by A CAMPAIGN MAILING.

Your suggestion doesn't work. Don and Bill know what they're doing. The use
of Sam Sloan, the barring of Success Team campaign material from a USCF
sanctioned event, and the desire for power to influence Bill's income are no
secret.
"The use of Sam Sloan"--I think it is fair for us to assume that all
Board members & candidates affiliated with both slates would like to
keep a certain distance from Sloan, unless there is direct evidence to
the contrary. However, some (not all) would not hesitate to use Sloan
for a given purpose--this is part of the problem.
"[T]he desire for power to influence Bill [Goichberg]'s income"--this
is a big leap, Stan. We all want power--this is a very human wish--if
only becasue we think we know what best to do with it. I think Bill G.
was too extreme in fighting Crossville, and I don't doubt that personal
considerations may have entered into his opposition. But for all my
misgivings about his serving as ED, I think he handled that potential
conflict of interest well. There are easier ways to make money than in
chess.
USCF President is another matter....I strongly believe that Bill G.
should pledge not to seek the USCF Presidency if elected. But why
wouldn't we want his decades of real-world experience on the Board?

Merck has decades of real-world experience. Should they run the FDA?
Have you had your Vioxx today?

Is he allowed to distribute campaign literature at a USCF event if he
is banning others from doing so?
Sometimes these conflicts are unavoidable--function of org size & pool
of candidates. Sometimes they may actually be DESIRABLE--if you can
get scholastic organizers & adult organizers directly on the board,
that may be better than having other folks guess what these folks
really want.
The ability to recognize conflicts of interest & recuse oneself from
them is essential.
Lying or pulling Don's chain?

He knew at Las Vegas that there was a 50,000 deal pending.

Considering he was appointed only a few days before that tournament it
doesn't seem likely.
Larry doesn't have much use for African-Americans.

Sam Sloan has real world experience. Will you be voting for him?
<<Sam Sloan has real world experience. Will you be voting for him? >>
Touché.
One wonders whether CPA Stan Booz is as honest in his work with
clients as he is on this forum.
His latest charge, which he himself did not understand at first, is
yet another example of a deliberate falsehood on his part. "Proof, we
don't need no stinkin' proof!" is this guy's motto.
>WHAT IS THE ROLE OF THE NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR IN THE NATROL
DECISIONS? WAS HE AN EMPLOYEE OR EVER ASSOCIATED WITH NATROL --
ARRAIGNED FOR LEAD IN ITS PRODUCTS -- IN ANY WAY?>
<Considering he was appointed only a few days before that tournament it
doesn't seem likely.> Stan Booz, chief advisor to USCF president
Beatriz Marinello
The stuff is rich. Stan Booz retailed two lies about Don Schultz
(that he was behind the Natrol deal and said there would be a $50,000
gain for the USCF) and he then repeated his lies while stonewalling a
lie detector test, refusing to take up bets offered by this writer and
Joel Channing.
What a tawdry guy! Now he argues he was joking all along, though
earlier stating he would take a lie detector test if I flew in from
Malaysia, etc.
Astonishing stuff.
The date of the new ED's appointment has no bearing on whether he
worked for Nikken and Natrol and is behind the deal. Once again, I
don't even argue the deal was bad; I argue that there must be full
disclosure and authentic taking of responsibility, which would not, I
think, involve resignation.
<Sam is a fair and honest employer. What's your problem?> Mike Goodall
> I think Sam is a scumbag. That may or may not be a problem. If elected will he push for your appointment to ED?> Stan Booz
Based on what I've read here, Sam Sloan is indeed a beacon when
compared with the dark, excremental, dishonest and mendacious postings
by Stan Booz.
And to think that this quality of man is currently the chairman of
the Finance Committee. Sam and his daughter's diapers are breaths of
fresh air in comparison.
I think Mr. Booz is a scumbag -- of the worst kind. Which is to
say, a bully.
No evidence has been presented...except for the evidence that has been
presented.
> I think Mr. Booz is a scumbag -- of the worst kind. Which is to
> say, a bully.
Coming from Larry Parr, Sam Sloan's chief advisor, I take that as a
compliment.
>I think Mr. Booz is a scumbag -- of the worst kind. Which is to say, a bully.>
>Coming from Larry Parr, Sam Sloan's chief advisor, I take that as a compliment.> Stan Booz
Sam and I consult about nothing as Stan Booz well knows. The
man is crooked through and through.
Oddly enough, my denomination of the mendacious gent -- the
macho guy who wanted a lie detector test, ho-ho-ho, and then backs out,
weasling about making a joke re his lies -- as a scumbag is likely an
understatement. In that sense it was a
compliment.
Stan Booz lies openly, brazenly, excrementally, incrementally,
even triumphally, if not triumphantly. Bill Brock is evidently far
more obsessed with sex and its permutations than Sam Sloan.
THE REAL TRANSLATION
< It wasn't a formal employer-employee arrangement. It was more like
one friend helping another for a modest recompence.> Mike Goodall
<Translation: He paid me under the table.> Stan Booz
The real translation of Stan Booz's crummy stuff: Friends can no
longer help each other (or dare mention it) without threats of state
persecution levelled by the likes of a Stan Booz.
>I have no interest in becoming ED, and Larry has no interest in being
CL Editor.I think Stan Booze would make a fine ED. He has just enough
crust to get the job done.> Mike Goodall
>Now if I only could afford the cut in pay.> Stan Booz
Based on his record of rampant dishonesty on this forum, I think
the issue is whether Mr. Booz can digest the pay raise.
One may bank on this much: if the job is offered, Mr. Booz will
grab it. But it won't be offered. Even his putative allies, with one
or two exceptions, have come to regard him as a liability.
You can bet he will be booted off the finance committee if the
insurgents get elected.
You can also bet that his lies about Joel Channing's wife won't be
forgotten or forgiven.
> You can bet he will be booted off the finance committee if the
> insurgents get elected.
Guess what committee was selected as committee of the year.
Itty-bitty titty?

Another forgery....
Neil,
You have used this example several times but I suspect the analogy may
be lost on a few. However this is why regulatory or granting
authorities must have prohibited relationships and why nonprofit
corporations need to adopt and enforce conflict of interest policies.
There may be some lessons for the nonprofit sector to be learned from
the following controversies -- the conviction of Jim and Tammy Faye
Bakker for illegal activities connected with their televangelism; the
conviction of Bill Aramony, CEO of the United Way of America, for
misuse of funds; the conviction of John Bennett, the founder/CEO of the
Foundation for New Era Philanthropy, for a pyramid scam; the forced
resignation of Peter Diamandoupoulos, the President of Adelphi
University, for lavish spending; the forced resignation of the
President of Feed the Children in Oklahoma for misuse of funds; the
forced resignation of Bruce Ritter of Covenant House; the removal of
the five former trustees concerning improper dealings of the Bishop
Estate; the allegations concerning questionable compensation to
officers of Minnesota Public Radio and an affiliated for-profit
organization; a trader at a firm employed by the Common Fund, a
nonprofit group in Westport, Connecticut took unauthorized risks and
lost $138 million in endowment money; the NAACP tarnished by a costly
sex scandal involving former President Benjamin F. Chavis and more
recently the allegations of a culture of favoritism and sexual
harassment regarding former President Kweisi Mfume after he resigned
prompted the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People
to reportedly pay a settlement of about $100,000 to a former female
employee; the United Way of the National Capital Area (UWNCA) came
under investigation as its former CEO, Oral Suer, stole $497,000 from
the charity, whose headquarters are a stone's throw from Capitol Hill.
Of course some may argue by comparison our potential mistakes are small
potatoes or none of this COI talk is really of concern to the USCF
since its volunteers always put the best interests of the organization
first.

The linked article, from CFO magazine, details many of the problems that
have plagued non-profits of late. It would be wise to heed these warnings.
