GM Hans Ree mentions a 2003 Dutch TV documentary "Bobby Fischer, de dolende
koning" (the wandering king). And GM Larry Evans cited a 1999 BBC documentary
on Fischer vs. Spassky in a series called "Clash of the Titans." It was never
shown in America but will be aired by Evans during his lecture at Cambridge
Springs, Pa., on May 15, 2004 (8pm) according to the organizers of this
centennial event.

When I was living in England and the Spassky-Fischer match was coming
up I was contacted by a producer for the BBC. I had mentioned in a note
to BCM that I was collecting magazines, books and articles about
Fischer. He took a lot of material and used it in a "documentary "about
the match. If I remember correctly about that time, there was a 60
Minutes feature on Fischer with Mike Wallace. At the end they brought
out a birthday cake which Bobby didn't particularly like. Part of the
60 Minutes story was incorporated into the BBC thing.

Just published - unfortunately not in English is:
Voronkov, Plisetsky "Russians versus Fischer", Moscow 2004, p.530,
$24.8.
The book tells about the struggle of american genius versus soviet
hegemony at chess. There are all 158 games played by Fischer against soviet
chessplayers. Besides, there are a lot of secret material from soviet
archives dedicated "Fischer's problem". A lot of pictures and photos.

The title can be purchased from www.ruschess.com NB: Russian language only.

An English edition of RUSSIANS VS. FISCHER by Plisetsky & Voronkov with an
introduction by Yuri Averbakh was published by Chess World Ltd. in 1994.

The authors state: "The idea of this unusual book occurred to us a few years
ago when we chanced upon some confidential documents of the Chess Federation
and the Sports Committee of the USSR dating back to the early 70s. All of the
documents concerned Bobby Fischer, the most dangerous rival of the Soviet
chessplayers in the entire postwar period, who in 1972 managed to wrest the
world title from them...That is how this book was born."

Dear Larry Parr, have not yet deciphered if any new material is evident in
this edition, Voronkov, Plisetsky. The publisher's blurb promises 'new
material and photos' but without much of any discrimination to what or how
much, &c. Thanks for your comment. Phil Innes.

Phil -
"Russians vs Fischer" compiled by Dmitry Plisetsky and Sergey Voronkov
appeared in English in a 1994 edition published by Moscow Chess World.
ISBN 5-900767-01-9. I bought it about a year ago from ChessCafe.com.

What you are talking about sounds like it might be a revision of this
original, as mine has fewer pages.
