I never had this problem with Netscape, but IE 3.02 and previous versions
seem to refuse to post about 1/3 to 1/2 of all my postings. The problem
seems to be on replies. Has anyone else found this problem and what to do?.
I know that Microsoft has admitted problems with their built in news reader
before. Perhaps I should switch to another newsreader.

If you see a 1 in my email address, take it out before replying.
Please do not email both me and the r.g.c.c. at the same time. I read all
the postings on r.g.c.c.
I've been trying tio email you to collect my "prize" for weeks. All my mail
messages are returned undelivered. As far as I can see I have your address
right. What occurs?

I also use IE 3.02 and have not had any problems posting. I don't post
as frequently as you - I am relatively new to using newsgroups and have
only posted about a dozen times, all replies and all worked.
I recently re-download the Microsoft Internet Mail & News 1.0 to try to
fix a problem I was having. ( After installing the Microsoft Office Service
Update the window listing posted messages in Microsoft Internet News was
blank. This was resolved by selecting view - columns - reset. So this fix
may have been unrelated to the re-download. ) Although the version number
didn't change, when I re-downloaded I did notice that some of the DLL's
used by Mail & News had been updated. You might want to try re-downloading
to get these DLL updates.
The web page for downloading Microsoft Internet Mail & News 1.0 is
http://www.microsoft.com/msdownload/ieplatform/imn/0.2.htm
Your posting problems might be caused by your ISP Newsgroup support
rather than IE 3.02.

P.S. I am anxiously awaiting the release of IE 4.0 for it's new features,
but am avoiding the beta versions for now to maximize compatability with
existing plug-ins and to minimize the bugs I experience.

FYI, I wouldn't use any version of IE at all, because every few weeks
new and dangerous security bugs are found, which can cause data loss,
or someone reading your personal information. For the newest serious
exploit check out
http://www.ee.washington.edu/computing/iebug
The solution is to upgrade to Netscape (http://www.netscape.com) and
never use IE.

K.K.: I too have experienced some lost postings now. (Of course
they
were my best computer chess posts!)
Although some that were lost made it to the newsgroup (I think) and
then
disappeared. Is this possible, maybe I am mistaken about having seen
these
posts that weren't there shortly afterwards. I have ordered the IE
4.0 CD,
and will switch to it as soon as it is officially released. I feel
safer
waiting for the released version then testing a beta version. IE 4's
new
E-Mail and News has significant enhancements. I am looking forward to
trying this when it's released.
If you have found a fix to your missing posts, please let me know.
You
said that you were having problems with refusal to post. Does this
mean
that you get a message at time of submission that post was refused
(if so
there may be a fix that I identified in one of my missing posts), or
are
you submitting posts - apparently successfully - but they don't
appear in
the newsgroup?

Bernhard: I think your attack on IE is unfair, since Netscape
also
suffers from the same type of security bugs. Microsoft has more
enemies,
gets more scrutiny, and therefore suffers more vehement attacks. I
think
both Microsoft and Netscape have done an admirable job in offering
update
fixes for identified security issues.
I have been a Netscape user and they have an excellent product,
but I
have decided after careful review to go with IE 4 - in the meantime I
have
switched to IE 3.02 to familiarize myself with IE before the IE 4
official
release.
