So I wrote him a letter more than three weeks ago, with instructions on
how to contact me via several means in English and German, and I didn't
hear a thing. I know it's getting close to tournament time (if it hasn't
started already) so I tried to call him today, once at 8 this morning and
again at 7:30 this evening. First attempt: a woman told me something in
Dutch and hung up. Second attempt: I asked if I could speak with Mr. de
Gorter, a man said "no" and hung up. Sooooo, I'm not sure if that means
Mr. de Gorter doesn't live at that number, or if he wasn't in, or if he
was on the pot, or if he's being an asshole, or what. I was wondering if
somebody could confirm that I have the right number, and maybe ask him
what's up if you get the chance? Much appreciated!
Cheers,
Tom
As far as I understand Cock de Gorter has been given a hard time by the
managers higher up in the AEGON organization. Last year the WWW-site was
such a success that the managers that don't know a thing about chess
started claiming that they had been organizing this thing for years already.
The result was predictable and sad: the tournament almost collapsed. All
sorts of things have gone wrong this year.

Yeap,
Standard procedure for a couple scholars. Something works well and someone else trys
to embellish it. Just leave it alone and let the Cock run it.

Well, I was there for the first two rounds, and can report that the whole
tourney is functioning in its usual efficient and friendly way.
No probs at AEGON :)

Except that my program wasn't there. (I consider that a problem, anyway.)
I still want to know what happened to my letter. And over the phone.
Cheers,
Tom
