I just tried to connect to the PlayChess server. Has it been down since
10/13? If so then someone should explain to them what redundancy is. Also
they should stop advertising new features of Playchess.com until their
server is back online..............

I sent them a message you're willing to explain it as soon as you solved
the problems you obviously encountered on your side of the connection.

There was no problem sending them that message, as their server is online
and has been online for the last few days as well. At this moment I see
1071 people online.

I'll pass that on, too, as soon as their server goes offline.

Is that why I received an error message stating that there server at Verio
was down? This was a message generated by the PlayChess server. Please
answer this one.

I will. You might have received a notice that the server was down at the
moment to tried to login, but it doesn't mean that the serv er is down
since 10/13.

The playches.com server is not down since October 13, and it's not down
now. At this very moment 1442 players are online.

You asked if the server was down, and claimed promptly that they shouldn't
announce things because their server is down.

In the same message you asked us if the server was down and claimed that
it was down beyond any doubt.
I wonder why you ask if you know so sure.

And I responded that your knowledge was incorrect, as I have logged in at
the server numerous times the last few days.

The Playchess.com server can be down for maintenance for a short time; it
happens to almost every server almost every day. These outages are a
nuisance, but planned, announced and very short.

Oops, now it's 1464 players. Are _you_ in by now?

The point is that it was not a local problem as you asserted. It was a
hardware problem caused by Verio as Playchess has stated.

My suggestion to you CeeBee is to not try to enter the field of hardware and
software support. Quite frankly you are just not good at it.

Thanks

Chris

My suggestion to you is that you not start blabbering about Playchess
being offline for days when it clearly isn't offline for days in a row.

My suggestion is that you don't ask for information if you're only
interested in yelling at people and insulting them who try to inform you.

My suggestion is that you stop posting here. Quite frankly you behave like
an asshole, and are quite good at it.

It's working now. I just logged in. You might check your firewall as it
requires permission for chessprogram8.exe to use tcp(out) and udp(out).

Hey folks,
I've been having trouble logging onto playchess.com for roughly 5
days now... It still gives the message "The new server provided by
Verio today suffered from a hardware failure. Verio and ChessBase are
working to solve the problem." However that was dated the 13th and I
managed to get on after that so i figure that's just the current file
saved at that particular address. I get the following message in the
chat box-

Trying playchess.com
Connected
Server timeout
Trying schach.de
Server is down
Contact to server broken, 13:40:04

The last time I was on i got a message saying something like
"server being upgraded, games can't be started for 15 minutes". I
closed the program and couldn't get on after that...

So my question is, is the server is actually down or is the trouble
at my end?

Many Thanks

Douglas Stones

Not a good debut for the browser based website by Chessbase Playchess (play.chessbase.com). After only being up and running for less than 2 weeks they're down already? Also, it appears that they have presented a chess site that is lacking in several parameters, such as rating settings for example. Being a player with a rating of 2132 I really gain nothing by being forced to play someone rated 1500.

Also, be careful with these guys, as they are known for invading your computer and entering registry keys as well as changing program settings, namely Fritz and Arena programs. Be sure to disable your access to your "Remote Registry" in your services.msc and also install a good boot.ini protection program such as "nProtect MBR Guard" as they will also attempt to hijack your Master Boot Record. Trust me, I am speaking from personal experience. And never install their Playchess software, as this gives them full access to your computer. Actually, it's not a good idea to install any third party software that grants entrance to your computer, as you're just asking for trouble. You'll thank me later. Sean.
