Hi,
I make some tests to compare the DOS version and the windows version of
Genius 5 (same hash table size, x-mode on DOS Genius)

The dos version is around 20% faster!

I agree with Jouni. I know you'll get a speed increase but not 20%. For instance I
got a 8-9% increase from rebel8 running in DOS. How did you come to this figure as
20%?

Genius4 in SSDF was the DOS-Version, not the Windows-Version (!),
because of the autoplayer.

Hi,
I tested both versions with some chess problems (32MB hash size for both
programs). The dos version was on all my tests around 18% faster (I used
win95 for the window version (no other program running in background),
DOS version was tested with -x option under DOS 7). I think 18% speed
difference made no big difference in chess strength.
CSS magazine (6/96) also runs some tests and gets around 15% speed
increase for the dos version).

(remark: 20% faster differs from 20% slower)

Of course 18 % is not much. But it means about 15 rating
points and can be quite important in SSDF list (+- 5
positions may be)!
