Looking through the recent "Is this forcing" thread, I noticed several
recommendations to play transfers after a 2NT rebid. I agree that this
is a good method, whether or not it's perfect, and it's simple. In fact
I play this in one partnership, after some minimal discussion about
follow-ups.

And that leads to my problem: it's easy to get to the right game, but I
think some more discussion is needed to fine-tune slam auctions. What is
the standard/useful/best way to play the following sequences?

1C 1H
2N ?

1) 3D..4C
2) 3D..4D
3) 3D..4H
4) 4H
5) 4m
6) 3S..4H

Or, if you prefer, how does responder go about the following things?

1) sign off in 4H
2) agree hearts then cue
3) agree clubs then cue
4) suggest hearts but offer clubs as a fallback
5) auto-splinter agreeing hearts
6) make a mild heart slam try
7) offer a choice between notrump and hearts, and make a slam try
8) probably others that would be tiresome to list

My trouble is there seem to be more possible plans for responder than
there are auctions available, and I don't know how good pairs sort them
all out (or which plans they leave by the wayside).

Some of these problems seem like they might be solved by strong
jump-shifts, except that there are still problem hands in the 14-16
range or so, where responder wouldn't be comfortable with a strong jump
shift over 1m but is very interested in slam after a 2NT rebid.

After a few have mentioned the "Transfer" method, I haven't been able
to find anything on it, but I'm certainly interested in it.

A fellow nicknamed GNASHER posted something recently on
the BBO forum :
After the 2NT rebid:
pass = the only NF bid.
1)The 3-level suits are all GF transfers:
3C transfers to 3D
3D transfers to 3H
3S transfers to 4C

2) Opener nomally completes the transfer but
does not have to . For example:
1m - 1S
2NT - 3D! ( transfer to 3H; I assume 5s/4h ?? )
?? Opener can give preference to either Major

3) He also gave this example:
1C - 1H
2NT - 3C! ( transfer to 3D )
3D - ??
..........3H = 6h/4d
..........3S = 3s, 5h, 4d, 1c
........3NT = 5h/4d, choice of games
..........4D = 5h/5d

I have a question? ( actually quite a few).
How does it go when Responder has a 4-4 in the
Majors ( ie how do you distinguish between a
4-4 and 5-4 ) ?

I guess you can play transfers but you lose out om many hand types
(like playing in 3d). Luckily there is a solution that solves ALL
responses to a jump 2NT rebid - the PARROT convention - see
www.pattayabridge.com/conventions/PARROT.htm
Perhaps readers would like to check it out and post if they like it -
or if they can find any hand that does not work with the convention?

My preferences are:

1) sign off in 4H

4H

2) agree hearts then cue

3D-3H; 3S/4C/4D

3) agree clubs then cue

3S-4C; 4D/4H/4S

4) suggest hearts but offer clubs as a fallback

4C

5) auto-splinter agreeing hearts

4D/4S directly, giving up the 4C auto-splinter to cater to 4)

6) make a mild heart slam try

3D-3H; 4H

7) offer a choice between notrump and hearts, and make a slam try

3D-3H; 4N

8) offer a choice between notrump and hearts withouth making a slam
try

3D-3H: 3N

9) set hearts and ask for keycards

3D-3H; 4S
