Auction 1:

Auction 2:
1D-X-p-1S;

Feel free to disagree with calls made on your behalf. What do you do
now, and what is your plan? How much of a difference did the auction make?

Partner has at most 2 hcp and you have no comfortable sure way to find
out partner's shape. For all you know partner is S xxxx H xxx D xxx
C xxx but he could also be S xxx H xxxx D xxx C xxx. So I think
bidding 4S is enough. If a spade slam makes it is probably spade split
well and you got a little lucky in the club suit.

Since partner most likely won't have a high card as a hand entry, I wouldn't want to be in a spade slam unless partner has at most two diamonds--then (assuming partner really does have four spades and they break) I can ruff a diamond and hope the club finesse is on. But like you said, I don't know how to find out what I need to know about partner's shape.
