My name is Tanya Little. I have 2 different Bridge Boards (Card game
"Bridge"). They both look extremely old. One is square and has the
words "AUTOBRIDGE PLAYING BOARD" on it. It consists of two boards, the
one on top you lift up to place a piece of paper, between the boards,
with all the numbers and card suits on it. This playing board has metal
sliders on it. I have some of the original papers that go with it. The
papers say "Hand played by Josephine Culbertson" and have Ely
Culbertson, among others, listed as contributing Experts, also, "U.S.
Patent No. 2,096,672" and "Copyright 1938 by Autobridge, Inc."
"Manufactured by Newscraft, Inc. Distributed by Autobridge, Inc. New
York, N.Y." The Autobridge playing board is Trade Mark Registered.
There's a lot more advertising on the back of the Playing sheets
envelope, but one other thing it says that might help is "Robert L.
Murray, Editor (formerly; Tournament Editor BRIDGE WORLD; Secretary
Untied States Bridge Association). Alfred P. Sheinwold, Technical
Adviser (Technical Editor BRIDGE WORLD")

I also have a round one called "Disk-O-Bridge". It is from the Company
Mono Bridge, Inc., 200 5th Ave., New York, N.Y. On the Game sheets it
says "Played by Sir Derrick J. Wernher, National Master" Also, after
the address it says "H. Von Halle, Editor and Harry J. Fishbein,
Technical Editor." U.S. Patent No. D-84,114.

I'm writing you this to see if you have any idea how much these would
be worth or where I would go to find someone who would know the value
of them. I have done a couple searches on the net with no luck. I would
appreciate any direction you could give me. Thanks for your time, Tanya

Put them on e-bay. You will get an idea of their worth.

Egads. Seems like a silly suggestion. Once the "idea" of their worth
is communicated, she no longer owns them and can no longer decide if
she prefers not to sell them for "an idea of what they are worth."

I suppose she could list them in an auction with a $1,000,000 reserve,
but that might not be cost effective, either.

Did you really make that suggestion thinking that it might be helpful?

These are relatively common items and tend to fetch between $5.00 and
$15.00 either on a website (similar to mine) or eBay. The AutoBridge
game sounds like the original larger sized unit but is not worth much
unless it has a complete packet of sheets. The Disk-O-Bridge is a bit
harder to find, but will have value only to the bridge ephemera
collector, and there are usually a few of these available on eBay at
any given time.

You don't need to list these on eBay to discover the going rate - just
do a word search and you will probably find a few examples on any given
day.

If you end up advertising this for sale, I suggest avoiding the word
"board" in your description (even though it is in the name of the
thing, the word suggests something else now). Call it an "Autobridge
set". And mention how many of the playing sheets you have, as well
as the date information that you posted here.

Similarly for the Disk-O-Bridge.

Holy cow!! I've got box full of various Autobridge sets -- the old
full-sized masonite sets, the brushed aluminum sets and those cheezy plastic
ones -- down in the basement ( though none are as old as Tanya's). Plus, I
have another boxful of bridge "memorabilia" (old Goren "Bridge for Two"
sets, etc.) I can't figure out what to do with them. I suspect they will
wind up in a land fill.
