APBA Saddle Racing is long gone but one of the most famous. The board game is
gone but Gary Stishan has made it into a computer game that is very much like
the board version. It currently sells at an APBA site.
The Thoroughbred Racing Game was the most well thought out. It was made by
Statis Pro and is very rare. Now deceased as well, Gary Stishan bought the
rights to it and is now trying to revive it. He has sold a few copies in a
test market. This was a great game in its time.
There is another game called Dark Horse but I do not know who makes that. I
see copies on E-Bay all the time. I believe it is made by a British company.
Dark Horse concentrates more on the dark underside of racing.
Turf Master (AZA Spiele - Germany) has, by far, the best components.
Beautifully done but somewhat expensive.
Pat Premo makes a game called Fast Action Horse Racing but it mainly provides
"quick" results as opposed to race action. It is still currently available.
By the way, if you are interested in Win, Place and Show (as am I)... Bruno
Cross and Pat Premo both make expansions for WPS. Pat has been doing so for
years. Some of Pat's work has been printed in gaming magazines
Bruno Cross makes a stunning full-color addition for WPS every year. They are
well made and printed. His charts cover the best American and European horses
for every year from 1930 to 2003. There is well over a thousand horses but I
do not know the exact number. They are perhaps the best designed expansion I
have ever seen for any game (horse racing or not) and are not "inexpensive"
looking either.
There is a german horse racing card game made but I cannot remember how to
spell it. The components are nice (as with most European games).
I could name dozens of games that are no longer with us but I believe you are
asking about current games that can still be purchased
Hope this helps some.

At our game meeting last night we had a 50 player WIN, PLACE & SHOW game
played. We
had 46 gamers at one site and 3 gamers over 800 miles away calling in and
making book
as it were.
We are going to claim in the largest WIN, PLACE & SHOW game ever !!!
We will try to break the record again during our con the BUCKEYE GAME FEST in
September.
If you are interested get in touch.
Thanks
Rob
You may want to check with the people at the game and hobby store
"Something To Do" at Oxmoor Center mall. They recently started selling
more German-type games and I hear the new owner appreciates those
kinds of games more than the previous owner. Maybe he knows of groups
that are looking for new people.
Someone also mentioned "Comic Book World" on Old Shep. I think they
sponsor gaming nights, but I don't what type of games they play. Could
be worth a call.
Good luck!

Thanks.

I believe Bruno's e-mail address is:
He produces an excellent expansion set for Win, Place and Show. Pat Premo's is
good but Bruno's is a superior product in any environment. Of course, I could
be biased since I enjoy Win, Place & Show.
