Hello,

I was wondering if anybody out there has ever heard of a board game called
"Strategy". There is no name on the board itself as to the maker of this
game. I only have the board and the game tokens and no instructions and was
wondering if anybody had heard of this game and have instructions?

This may be a little rough but I hope it helps:
The game tokens have pictures of either a plane, ship of soldier.
The game board has a yellow island in the middle of it and red land to the
left and right. At the top and bottom of the game board is water.
The islands and water have circles on them all connected together with
lines.
To the left and right the words Army and Airforce are written in the circles
and at the top and bottom the word Navel are written in the circles.

Thanks for any advise,

D.

Whitehill lists two:
Strategy - Wolverine Supply, 1924 (Checkerboard on reverse)
Strategy, Game of Armies - Corey Games, 1938 (Board, 40 pawns, 2 dice)
No photos of either game.

You might try asking The Association of Game & Puzzle Collectors -

Hi Glenn,

Thanks for the suggestions, I will check them out.

Some corrections to the details.
On the Left is Red Land, the middle is a yellow island and on the right is
green land.
The circles have either Troops, Air Force or Navy written on them.
There is no Checkerboard on the reverse of the board. The front of the
board has a picture of three men playing the game and it also has a patent
number on it (sorry don't have the number on me at the moment).

Thanks,

D.

I have a copy of "Strategy" published by 3W. Very simple wargame between two
islands, one on each board which you can arrange in a variety of ways. 88
counters (red and blue, if memory serves), backprinted with counters for
another 3W introductory game, 2WW.

Is this it?

Hi Dan,

Not sure but from what you describe it is the closest I have so far.

The counters - what images are on them? Is it the plane, ship and soldier?
You also stated two islands - the board I have has two pieces of land on the
left and right and a single island in the centre.

I only have the board at the moment so I am unsure of counter colours and
numbers.

Thanks,

D.

Hi all,

Some corrections to the details.

* On the Left is Red Land, the middle is a yellow island and on the right is
green land.
* The circles have either Troops, Air Force or Navy written on them. The
circles on the yellow island have nothing written on them.
* The front of the board has a picture of three men playing the game and it

also has a patent number on it (sorry don't have the number on me at the
moment).

D,

From what you're describing, this is an entirely different game from the one
that I have. "Strategy" has two paper geomorphic boards, each with their own
island. Sorry.

I have found somebody else with this game but unfortunately they are having
the same problems I am trying to find the instructions. They did have some
more information through. Here it is:

"Hi, I am starting some research on "strategy" at the moment. The game I
have is exactly as you describe. Unfortunately I also have no rules. I do
have the box lid and it says "Strategy", "New Zealand Patent Applied for"
top right and "a game of skill" bottom left. The photograph on the front has
three New Zealand military personnel - army, navy, airforce playing the
game. However, there is no maker information.

I am also eager to get any more information on this game. Sorry I couldn't
be more help but I'll let you know if anything else comes to light. "

Hi,
We played Strategy at primary school in New Zealand probably around 1983-1985. It sounds similar to the descriptions above.
As I remember it, each player arranged their (approx 40 pieces, four rows of ten?) pieces in order to hide & defend his/her flag. There were bomb pieces too. The other pieces (such as army) had ranks (all numbered, from memory there were 7's; the 1 and 2 pieces were the highest rank), and some pieces could diffuse the bombs.
Then each player took turns to advance.
There were two main strategies
- heavily fortify your flag with two layers of bombs, and pieces in between which outranked the bomb diffusers, or
- put your bombs in one area as a decoy and have your flag somewhere else with less protection.

It was a great game, I've never been able to find it since, but wish I could to teach my kids.
Good luck.

It's readily available in the USA. If you can't find a copy in
New Zealand, I'm sure you can pay too much to ship it from just about
everywhere else.

One can play Stratego online:
http://www.stratego.com/play/

I actually implemented it for Zillions. It simulates blind play
reasonably well, but isn't very strong:

I have exactly what you are looking for that is if you are still looking. I played the game as a child and I had it out this weekend playing with my grandchildren. I even have the instructions which I have copied and I could post to you if you wish. It was a great game that certainly needed some "strategy" !

I had this as a kid, still have the board but no tokens. From memory tokens moved one jump at a time soldiers could only move on land, aircraft moved anywhere and ships only on the sea. Troops could be moved one at atime onto ships. The object was to capture the island in the middle by jumping (taking off the board) all the opposition tokens.
That's all I remember.
