Anyone out there make a larger game board for A+A?

Currently making one myself, large enough to easily pile units into a
little country, but not too large that it would overhang the edges of
the table and be accidentally hit (tired of replacing the Western US
troops).

Found something out the hard way... when painting one side of foam
board (1/4" thin), it will warp and it's tough to lay flat afterwards.
:-(

Probably will just go back to the idea of crayons or colored pencils
on paper, laminated, and tape the sections together to be folded
accordian style. (make the size of the panels small enough to fit inside
the box).

And also, the blow up boxes are now useless. I reprinted the Weapons
Development and National Production charts to fit in the space available
on the top right side of the map (also made the numbers go up to 50
instead of 45).

I would like to read your comments, etc.

I customized my Axis and Allies set and made a wooden box for it.
The box is less than half the size of the original to save shelf space and
made it easier to carry (also put a shoulder strap on it). To make a
board that would fit in this box I made one on fabric that I can roll it
up. I just bought a piece of white muslin fabric and hemmed the edges to
a few inches larger than the original board. Then I made a color
photocopy of the original board in a reverse image. My fiance showed me
some stuff she got from a craft store (Micheal's carries it) called
"Picture This" which can transfer the image from any photocopy or laser
printer to fabric. Just follow the dirrections on the bottle. A bonus of
the fabric board is that is anyone spills on it I can just throw it in the
washer! Although I could suggest hanging it to dry and not putting it in
the dryer. I have been thinking about making a bigger board that same
way, just using the enlargement feature on the copier at the library.
Again, since I can roll it up even the large board will fit in my half
size box. :)

A group of us in Chicago have a3.5 x 6.5 board made out of wood and has
cup holders and spots for units on it. It also has more countries and a area
cut out for dice rolling (we have a few sloppy die rollers) There are five
enemies who battle and we use a&a pieces in more of a Risk style game.

Pictures and rules will be posted shortly on my web page, just click on the
Risk page link in the drop down box.

I have one that is about 2.5 times larger than the
supplied map. Great for those really long drawn out
games.

I am in the midst of talking with a printer to make large maps.

I actually started making large maps for RISK. My buddies and I then
made some new units for RISk and then I found A&A. We then made a few
more maps - customized and not necessarily of Earth. All were around
44"x28".

When we started to play more of A&A (instead of our custom game) I then
went to work on bigger A&A maps. Made two large ones - 44"x28" - where
I initially split the territories and sea zones and then later added a
few more (basically 3x original # of territories). One of them look ed
a lot like Xeno's World at War 1939 expansion map!

The map I want to do will be 39"x27" (Original is 31"x19")
USSR: 18 territories (8 original)
GER: 16 (8)
UK: 36 (17)
JAP: 19 (12)
USA: 21 (10)
Atl: 33 (17)
Ind: 15 (11)
Pac: 37 (21)
Med: 3 (3)

The Atlantic and Pacific are both expanded and USA can not land in
France in one go. It will take two turns!
The reason I did not make more territories is that I want the size of
the smallest territory without an expansion box to be as big as the
smallest on the original map. Want to have at least 10 Infantry crowded
onto a territory without spillover.

All territories AND sea zones are named (for pbem games); Neutrals have
IPCs!

The beauty will be that for a little extra cost on my part I can put a
second map on the back of it!

I was thinking of doing Europe, with North Atlantic, with Mediterranean
and Northern bit of Africa, most of MidEast and Russia up to Urals.

This allows for use with the table tactics expansions of WWI, as well as
for use with WWII.

Any suggestions for a different map.
Other choice is to make one side 1942 and the other 1939, but without
France and China as separate powers ala Xeno.

Well mine are a bit bigger but if you have a kitchen table with a
center board you should be able to fit it. Using masking tape to tack
down the corners is a good idea too, and wear t-shirts so sleaves don't
catch pieces.

I used bristol board (2) for my first maps and coloured markers. No
warping until we rolled the maps up for storage. But we also have thick
foam on which to place these sheets. We taped the foam sheets together
for folding and could tuck the map sheets inside when we slid it behind
the stereo unit.

Good idea.
My map(s) will be folded at the printer and hopefully will not be too
brittle to unbend nor too flimsy to fall apart. Will be laminated but
not sure of their process.

I added blowup boxes as I have more islands Iceland, Sicily, Ceylon,
Formosa, New Caledonia, Fiji, US Samoa,... 26 islands on map not
counting Japan, UK and Australia.

Good start. What is the size of your boards then? I think they sell
foam sheets around the same size as my boards 22"x28" - tape two
together to get 44"x28".

I will post a picture on my Map (without place names) on my A&A site in
the near future.

I have other expansions that I want to sell as well (2 decks of cards
and some supply markers).

Just wondering what do the players on this ng think is a good price for
a map like the one I am creating (2 sides). It will come with a manual
of new rules (ie Kiel Canal, straits of Malacca) and some set up cards
(for original placement).

I was thinking of around $30 US. Too high, just right, too low?

I forgot to add where my A&A pages are:
http://www.kw.igs.net/~tacit/aanda/expansions/index.htm

I will have my maps and some new cards pages in the near future (I
hope).

BTW I am working on a map for computer/internet use only that would be
equivalent to 40'x24' (yes that is ' not " !)
