One of the alien event cards in Space Crusade ("Ork Mekaniak") says that an
Ork may attack as though using a Devastator.... However, this weapon isn't
mentioned in the rules anywhere.... Does anyone know what it is, what
effects it has, and which dice to roll for it?.... :-/

Many thanks,

Chris Davis.

I believe this is the same as a Space Marine's rocket launcher; in the
Warhammer 40K universe on which this game is based, that is what they
are called.

So that's a couple of heavy weapons dice, with the high rolling one
affecting the surrounding 9 squares (if I recall correctly).

I think the weapon is something else.

The term "Devastator Squad" is used in Warhammer 40k to describe any Space
Marine heavy support squad (Codex: Space Marine, p. 14). These squads can
carry several types of heavy weapons: heavy bolters, lascannons,
multi-meltas, plasma cannons, and, of course, missile launchers.

What I was able to come up with was the use of the word Devestator in the
little fluff story running on the bottom of most of the Space Crusade
rulebook pages. On page 12, the Space Marine named Kanner is instructed to
bring up the Plasma Gun. On page 13, the Space Marine named Tenard is told
to get ready with the Missile Launcher. On page 18, Kanner is ordered to
bring the Devestator.

So it seems to me (based on the idea that a marine would remain assigned to
the same heavy weapon) that the Devastator is the Plasma Gun, used as
described on page 12 of the Space Crusade rulebook.

On the other hand, the marines in the story had been taking causualties and
Kanner could have picked up a different weapon. By process of elimination
(the Plasma Gun and the Missile Launcher having already been called for by n
ame) the Devastator could be the Assault Cannon.

Or why not make up your own rules? The card does say that the weapon is
experimental, after all and not just something captured from the marines.
How about something that launches/teleports Gretchins at the enemy! Maybe
something along the lines of any two Gretchin within 2 squares of the Ork
get hurled against any enemy within LOS of the Ork. Each Gretchin is worth
one hit. Gretchin are removed from play. ;-)

==========

We've always played that this card has the same effect as the missile
launcher.
And if I remember correctly, that's the total of two red dice in the
center square, and the high red die in the eight surrounding squares.
