I have a small (read big) problem. I'm from Denmark, and I have bought this
game. My opinion is that it is a really good boardgame. But the danish rules
are very strange and poorly written
Does anyone know where I can find the original rules????

Hi Mikael, here's an english translation:

Although that's the only game I know of called Don, I don't think
it's the game Mikael has (based on the subtitle). Given more information
on the game (such as a picture), we might be able to determine
what it is.

Hej Mikael!
I also live in Denmark, and I bought Don about a month ago, and have played
it once. I agree that it is a very cool game and yes, the rulebook is VERY
poorly written. The way we got around it was just to make a lot of house
rules.
But Im afraid it is the orignal rules..it's a Danish game and MediaMobsters
is a Danish company.
If you have any specific questions, I will be happy to answer them!

And yes we too have made a lot of houserules. But it shouldn't have to be
that way.
I may have some questions later... and thanks for the answer

If you can tell everyone where the picture is (I don't see a picture
of a boardgame called Don on that site), someone may be able to
identify what the name is in English (or German), and point you to
a set of rules.

"MediaMobsters was founded as a games developer in May 2000 by Adam
Gregersen, Benedict Řdemotland and Christian Majgaard. "
www.mediamobsters.com have no info on the boardgame, but they tell that
they developed the popular PC game GANGLAND on the boardgame.
The danish rules can be found on DANSPIL's website:
http://www.danspil.dk/spillevejledninger/Donvejl.pdf
But there is absolutely NO indication in the rules about licensing, so I
think the game must be Danish - an more evidence can be found at:
http://newz.dk/forum/item/22648/
where it is announced (in translation) that "The Danish company
MediaMobsters are currently developing a new game called "DON - Family
Inc.". (September 2002).
- and btw: MediaMonsters won the Danish game of the year award 2004 with a
trivia game called "Pass the Monkey" (no relation to the Swedish game "Spank
the Monkey") to which they are searching for international licensing.
I believe we can assume the game to be Danish.
Dan (and others) who wants to see a pic of Don may visit this link
and press the yellow boxes at the bottom:
http://www.danspil.dk/produkt.asp?ProductID=8459
And in case someone should hope that I will bring a copy of the game to the
Gathering: I will do so only if you pay me. The game is a curious mix
between Monopoly and Risk and the basic level takes 1-3 hours to play while
the advanced version takes 2-6 hours!

The game they talk about here is a computergame.
And I allready know these sites. I just can't imagine a set of rules being
to poorly written
on this site you can see that there is a picture of the game with an english
headline, thats why I thought it would be translated
http://www.mediamobsters.com/default_don_faq.asp
Then how about this one: http://www.tekinno.dk/11114
At the end they mention:
"Furthermore have MediaMobsters developed 6 board games which have been
published in Scandinavia by Brio and Danspil respectively."
Notice the word "developed". This indicate that they didn't just translate
an already published game.

It is certainly not unheard of in our hobby.

I cannot get the link to work. Are you sure you don't have the page cached
on your own computer? None of the (visible) links on the site leads to Don.

cruel. First, we made a board game called Don, about a guy that tries to
conquer Manhattan, and then we decided to bring our ideas onto the "big"
screen".

I have the game but I don't think I'll ever play it. I've placed it on the
shelf next to Globopolis.
The same company also made the dreadful Aktie Millionær which was also
featured in an english edition on their old website.
The only game that I think looked interesting was their game "Rejseholdet"
based on a Dansih TV series. Found the game in a Danish bookstore but
decided against buying it, based on what I've seen in Don and Aktie
Millionær.
