Yes this post should be elsewhere but before the guy goes off and buys the
wrong game be aware that Bruce is confusing the game. Avalon Hills game
is not the same as the MB game of either title.

Okay, let's see if we can clear some of this up.

There is a game called "Samurai" published by Avalon Hill (now out of
print, I think), which is very much like Kingmaker. It plays in roughly
the same way.

The game "Shogun" by Milton Bradley in their Gamemaster line was
republished with the name "Samurai Swords".

To confuse this more, there is a boardgame called "Samurai" put out by
GMT. There also is a boardgame called "Shogun" published by FASA and a
cardgame called "Shogun" published by Mayfair, both based on the James
Clavell book, and both decent games.

Hope that helps. Make sure which one you want and which one you're
getting.

Shade and sweet water,
Brian

Avalon Hill made a game called Samurai. It was a reprint of a Battleline
title. The game played very much like Kingmaker.

Yes, Avalon Hill did a game called Samurai. I used to have it.

Just my 2 cents...

Salutations, gentlefolk,

I have in front of me a copy of "Samurai / by Dan Campagna / A
Battleline Game of / Politics and Warfare in / Feudal Japan
published by Battleline Games / a division of Heritage Models Inc. /
Dallas, Texas, USA"

copyright 1979, with 2 paragraphs of errata dated June 15, 1979

Plays a lot like Kingmaker, but graphics are much less appealing - all
titles, etc, are on counters - not multicolored cards. IMHO, tho, the
map is rather nice (for those pre computergraphics days)

Put it up f7or auction a couple of months ago, and if the chap who put
in the high bid doesnt get in touch with me soon, twill be on sale
again.

Avalon-Hill acquired the rights to print this game - along with the rest
of the Battleline games (WSIM, Machiavelli, etc) - but AFAIK never put
out an 'Avalon-Hill' edition - only replaced the 'Battleline' logo on
the box with theirs.

Its a good game and oughtta be reprinted with uptodate graphics
sometime...

Finally, it has almost nothing in common with Milton Bradley's 'Shogon'
/ 'Samurai Blades' (?) except that the gameboards for both are maps of
Japan.

Yours, John Desmond - jdes...@bbs.cpcn.com
