Hello,

I remember that someone had posted such question, but i would like to ask it
again:

Do you know famous persons (politicians, actors, actress, sportsmen a.s.o.)
who used to play backgammon?

Thank you,
Carem

A coin has no memory.
Backgammon, however, is played with dice.

A couple of years ago I challenged Robbie to a game of backgammon for
Children in Need. He was to put up £1000 and I was to put up £100 - the
loser paying their stake to the charity. He turned me down!

President Thomas Jefferson was known to play backgammon. Kept meticulous

I have a bg game called 'Omar'. It is an electronic handheld. You play against
the handheld, enter your moves, etc. It's about 10 plus years old.

I saw one on Ebay a few months ago, complete with box and instruction
booklet etc., for around $20, and I regret not buying it. I believe it is
from the late 70's, which must make it one of the earliest commercial bg
bots. I wanted it for my bg collection, and also to test it for playing
strength elo. Yours isn't for sale, is it ? :-)

I saw a picture of Bob Dylan with a backgammon board, but I'm not sure if he
was playing or just fooling around with it.

Yes, it is about 25 plus years old. The instruction brochure, 16 pages, is not
dated. Game can be played with an A/C adapter or by battery.
Wondering if anyone has knowledge of an older BG bot?
Adam, I might be interested if offer is exciting as BG !

Bob Stringer ('Speedo' for his fans)!

Here's a funny anecdote about Ric Gerace:

I remember playing Mr. Gerace at the Los Molinos Crianza tournament
back in 1977, quarter-finals masters. Those were the days! I offered
him a cup of coffee before the match and he appreciated the offer, but
he didn't know it was actually decaf I gave him. I went on to win the
match 25-3 but lost to Buck Leibowitz in the semis.

If you think *that's* rarified company, consider the
converse: famous backgammon players who have their own line
of speedos.

...add one of my (comic) favourites, Modesty Blaise. In some episode
(18-20, early seventies IIRC, has a title like "Willie something") she
even mentions having 25 to 11 odds against some shah so she was beyond
