The notation numbers the points from 1 to 24, always from the
standpoint of the player on roll. 3-1 making the 5 point is thus
notated 8/5 6/5. Etc. Bearoff: 6-5 is notated 6/o 5/o. Etc.

Vi ses, og tak for alle fiskene!
Almost all BG literature and computer programs use notation from the
perspective of the person rolling. It is far easier to visualize and just
as easy to program. I'm certain this current method will not become
'obselete'.
Below is a sample of what the standard Jellyfish *.mat (or *.gam) format
looks like. This format is a 'standard' with the two main computer programs,
Jellyfish and Snowie. (Snowie can import it easily. Also, a nice program
has been written to convert Zone dice logs to Jellyfish format.) Other
servers, Netgammon, GamesGrid, FIBS also have their proprietary dice log
export formats. Jellyfish's format uses the 'from the person moving
perspective', and uses 25 as the bar, 0 as 'off', and a blank line when the
player had no play.

The problem here is that this system is analogous to the obsolete
descriptive chess notation["always from the
> > standpoint of the player on roll"]. THe difficulty is finding a
standard that meshes with existing programs that also can be read as text.
The alternative, similar to PGN is using an absolute reference[not changing
for the other player] for all 24 points. I have been told that Jellyfish
files are text, bbut have not looked at the .gam files with a text reader to
see how the moves are represented, and how other game information is
maintained.
