This looks like a nice set, but the checker size is somewhat smaller than
the 'standard' tournament size set. At all the tournaments I've been to,
90% of the sets have 1-3/4" checkers with a few 2" checker sets. People may
not want to play on a set with these smaller 1.57" checkers. But if you're
not going 'on the tour', I'm sure this would be OK. And the price is
reasonable. Many 'official' size leather and cloth/wood sets go for $500 US
and higher. If you really only want to spend $150 or less, the
cork-surfaced Crisloid boards are very popular, and are pretty much
bulletproof and hard to damage.

I have a Tak Morioka board (hand-made wood with fabric playing surface.)
Pretty expensive ($850) but extremely pleasant to play on. He's in Chicago
and makes them one at a time. He makes them out of cherry or walnut, and
will use any checker set you like and you can choose any colors for the
board and pips you like. Around the US, they are quite popular. At a big
tournament, I'll usually see 15 or more of his boards in use. Their owners
are usually quite fanatical about them and consider them the 'best'. The
checkers move so nicely across the fabric surface as there are no seams or
stitching like in leather boards, and the checkers glide much easier over
the fabric than over leather.

You are right, those Tak boards are the best. I remember playing on them in
Charlotte....
