A few years ago Sports Illustrated did a story on tout services and they
reported that the Sports Monitor is a shill which, for a fee, will "verify" any
claims that a sports service makes.

I have heard that there are 2 "Sports Monitors", one based in Illinois I
believe (known to be totally bogus) and the one in Oklahoma City. I have
heard that the one in OK city is for real, but keep hearing conflicting
reports. Perhaps they are being mixed up. Can anyone clear up the
legitimatcy of the Sports Monitor in Oklahoma City?

The Sports Illustrated story referred to the scammers on Oklahoma City.

Wrong, "sportsfan".

What SI (November 18, 1991) actually said (on page 118) was

"Duffy, who operates out of Massapequa, Long Island,
also claimed to be no worse than 75% right, ever.
Yet when his picks were audited by the Sports Monitor
of Oklahoma City, one of the rare legitimate monitors
(among the dozens of such outfits that purport to keep
tabs on the performance of tout services),
he never fared better than 58.8% in any regular football
season between 1985 and '88, and he sank as low as 39.7%
for his college picks in '87. Eventually the Sports Monitor
refused to monitor Duffy because of his "deceptive ad
practices"."

"... one of the rare legitimate monitors..."
^^^^^^^^^^
If you have a later SI quote, let's see it.

Now apparently it is true that SM is run by Ruth Glasgow,
sister of Gary London, owner of National Sports Wire in Edmond, OK,
so I might take an SM rating of London with a grain of salt.
However, London has a reputation as a competent and reasonably
honest tout.

Plus, "i m 20% johnson" doesn't like London at all;
can anyone imagine a stronger POSITIVE recommendation?
Gosh, I can't.

The Sports Monitor out of OK is run by Ruth Glasgow, but I have no idea of her family
background.

Blah, blah, blah.

OK, here's the deal. ANY service that claims even a moderately high success rate
without being monitored either publicly through this forum or privately through
one of the monitoring services (primarily either The Sports Monitor out of OK or
Sports Watch out of LV) is suspect. Period.

This is an educated audience. We are aware of the touts' tricks. We demand proof
of winning percentage.

And while the monitors may not be 100% accurate, there is no way they would say that
a service that paid to be monitored got *less* games correct than it did. That's what
lawsuits are for. My point being that if a monitor's highest ranking service scored
67.5% (as did Wildcat Sports, no affiliation, in 1994 NFL per SM), then I am confident
that NO service scored above that percentage unless similarly monitored and documented.

If they were that accurate, they would be eager to be monitored and prove it to the
world.

So here's the deal: get documented. Either through a monitor or some other public
forum. Submit your picks confidentially to Lvbob. Post them in a newsgroup or
website. Whatever.

If you refuse, it will become painfully obvious to all subscribers of this newsgroup
that you are a phony and your 70% winning percentages are as well. It's up to you.

In other words, put up or shut up!

Again, Gary hits the nail on the head. While I consider myself a
novice sports bettor, I REFUSE-- REFUSE-- to accept the undocumented
claims of persons on this news group that constantly claim some ungodly
winning percentage AFTER the fact. If you are so sure that you can
consistently beat the spread, submit your picks to one of the mentioned
monitoring services. Believe me, if you beat the spread consistently
and are monitored while doing so, you will be UNABLE to handle the
business that is generated afterwards.

I, for one, will not respond to the tons of "CALL FOR MY 5-STAR PLAYS"
advertisements that are all over this newsgroup. Most people with
average intelligence will not call either. However, if you document
your claims through an independent source, you tend to prove your
claims.

Just my 2 cents worth, as an average reader of this newsgroup.

Regards,

Mark.

One more Johnson fan posting from AOL. With an 80 percent record I would be
living in Vegas with the legal books.
Perhaps you are unable to find a bookie bacause you never paid off your guy
after following I.M.s 20 percert winning rate.

I don't want to get in on this flame party, but isn't it odd that all of I.M.
Johnson's 'fans' are from AOL?

Actually, the plural form of "son of a bitch" is "sons of bitch".
But we get your point.
