Obviously, lots of couples get divorced with neither of them playing
poker. But I'm sure you are right that one or both of them playing
poker increases the odds of a divorce. Reminds me of "I can still make
Cheyenne," which might not be the title. But it's about how tough
rodeo is on a marriage, or about an asshole's wife divorcing him
because he never bothers to come home, depending on your point of
view.

you could go backwards and infer that divorced men have more time and
they choose to spend it on poker.

It's always been my conviction that a pro poker player should only marry
another player, pro or not. I also notice that the poker world is very
incestuous because the players, dealers and managers so often marry each
other. Marriage is tough enough w/o tossing in a full time 'job' that
requires extensive off hours and travel.

Did you ever notice that right wing police officers have a higher
divorce rate?
If you look hard enough you can dig up negative info on anyone, as you
well know.
How about homosexuals, Mike, have you checked out their divorce rate?
What about pedophile Catholic priests? I never hear you mention them.

hanks, what the fuck is your problem? You follow me around like a
pathetic little bitch. I hate to break it to you bucko, but Bea is
already pretending to be my wife and one psycho-dyke is one too many.
Maybe you should start following her around.

Remind me not to use the word "incestuous" when hitting on the CAz

Probably not an issue as most pro poker players have no chips (or money)

Rhonda the dealer? She knows what I'd go through for her. :p
Point out Veronica next time, please.

When playing poker all you're thinking about is what's best for me. It's
me, me, me.
Maybe it's tough to switch that off when with your spouse.
Also poker players disguise their feelings and control their emotions.
Makes them hard
to read. A carryover here when with your spouse makes you seem cold and
distant.
I guessing that anyone married who has played poker extensively for more
than just a couple
of years has had at least one divorce. Those that are still with their
spouse tend to be
the exception who are very good at switching off the poker mindset when
with their spouse.

Don't forget Annie Duke who instadumped her hubby after she won the
$2million on TV. Didn't Gavin Smith get divorced, too? And, I'm
not certain but isn't Michael Mizrachi divorced, too?
recent issue of 'cardplayer' has interview with mizrachi. sounds like
he's still very much married. was gavin smith ever married? wasn't
carlos' first wife a poker player also? so maybe poker wasn't the problem
there. how 'bout that dan shak? his wife beth was a real cutie...they're
now divorced and they were both poker players. oh well..

Ron Stanley and Roseann split a while back. Ron made the final table of
the
97 WSOP and until it got too hot was dressed in a tux.

Didn't his wife get a girl friend as well?
They didn't look that big. Did he short the pot?

There's also one with pasty white skin that's nice, but I think I'm

I remember that guy. Everyone was complimenting him on his tux and
all I could think of was what a moron he was for making himself so
uncomfortable with that much money on the line.

I quit playing poker seriously shortly after getting married. My wife
asked me to.
Why?
Money? No
Other women? No
Time Management? Absolutely.
In order to play poker successfully most "novices" believe that you must
have no concept of the value of money. This is only partially correct.
The real issue is that you must have no concept of is "time". For me,
there was no difference between 2 hours and 2 days. To a successful player
there is not much difference in leaving for a session and returning hours
later or days later.
For instance, if asked how long I was going to be gone, the truthful
answer was always "How the fuck do I know".
To the non-gambling spouse, this is a concept that is not considered in
the beginning, when discussed makes no sense, and eventually becomes the
dividing issue.
So, yes. I think this does fall under "poker life style".
Sam's Rule #2 for successful gaming: Never play poker to a time limit,
either short or long.
Auburn Sam

You make some good points. In addition, and generally speaking, the best
poker games tend to be on the weekends. And the weekends tend to be when
most family functions and recreational activities are scheduled. So the
best times to play poker are frequently the worst times to be away from
family, social and recreational activities.
