It's a given that a true compulsive gambler will bet on any thing and
every thing. But that given aside, what is the favorite gambling venue of
the compulsive gamblers you've known?

In my experience, there are three, in the following order:

#1 Craps. Walk through any casino and if you hear people yelling and
screaming it's most likely coming from the craps tables. It's quick, it's
hands on (at least when you're the shooter) you get immediate results and
you have the potential to win or lose a lot of money on every roll. Not
to mention the excitement of gambling in a crowd of gamblers.

#2 Sports and horse betting. I have rarely met a compulsive gambler who
did not have a bookie on his speed dial. The attraction of sports and
horse betting is that there is almost always a game or race going on some
where and all you have to do is dial a phone number to place your bet.

#3 Blackjack. They say slots generate 70% of a casino's gambling revenue
but most compulsive gamblers I've known preferred blackjack to slots. You
get to make betting decisions on every hand and casinos were built on guys
with full-proof blackjack counting systems.

So that's my thought on compulsive gambler's favorite bets. What say you?

I disagree. #1 is poker players who bet red/black and other prop bets during
poker play. First off, the most degenerate gamblers visiting casinos always
find the poker table eventually. You will meet the worst of the worst. The
ones that play daily and bet red/black... Man, that's as bad as it gets. I
mean, it's like pitching quarters against one guy and playing pool against
another. Just how much action does one need?

Craps is then #2 because if they win, that's where the red/black betting
poker players go next.

But #3 isn't horses/sports betting. It's golf.

This breed of degenerate gamber NEEDs to go out and golf and bet big on it.
Horse racing is a different breed of loser. He's trapped in a corner. He
will never put as much on the line or lose as much as the type I'm
describing.

The same goes for sports betting (which should be considered separately and
not lumped in with horses), but sports betting is often the gateway that can
and does start some nice young man down the path to becoming a red/black
bettor. Once the disease is full-blown, these people certainly don't mind
putting up thousands (and more) on a single sports bet. So sports is #4.
Horse racing has nothing to do with it, mostly because it takes too much
study and the real compulsive gambler wants to put his money down quick and
get on with it.

#5 is whether or not one can slam dunk a basketball on a regulation court.
(Everyone knows that.)

It's bingo. Slots are second.

Well numb nuts, we are talking about compulsive gamblers, not the number
of people in a poker room. The vast majority of which are not compulsive
gamblers. You really do have a reading comprehension problem.

You have forgotten Keno.

This game seems to be played almost exclusively by compulsives, and
nobody else has the patience to pull it off.

Vegas movies like Hard Eight and Vacation Vegas will show you this
stereotype. A stereotype, cuz it's true.

This is the red/black betting which can happen all over the casino, all
of the time. Action, action action.

Gary was right about this. Nothing compares to the droves of little old
ladies playing bingo and slots.
