Can't be at WSOP or not playing in the main event but feel like a little
gamble?

I won my seat on Stars and have put half of it up for sale on chipmeup (
http://chipmeup.pokernews.com/events , select "-Live 2009-" then select
"WSOP - 2009 - Main Event" , then scroll down for 'greatbrit'). I'm
selling at par, so each $100 gets you 1%. Payment is by buddy transfer
on Stars or Full Tilt.

My profile is out there (all the old timers will already know who I am)
so you can see if it's something you are interested in.

Thanks,
Paul

Can't afford to sponsor you this year, but...

Would you do me a favor and contact Pechanga poker room
(http://www.pechanga.com/casino/pokerroom.asp) and try to convince them to
drop their fucking horrible homebrew tourney clock?

Thanks.

I dropped $100 on a RGP'er a couple years back...
(was actually lost steaming at the slot machines!)
and haven't fully recovered from that yet!

That being said, if 3 other RGP'ers want to split a
share ($25 a piece for .25%) I'll buy one on our
behalves ... anyone else interested in a partial share?

Mark, I'd split it with you. Let me know if you find 2 others and I will
send you the $25. Stars OK?

Thanks guys, I'll be doing my very best. My best friend came 2nd in the
first NL event last year for 450K and 2nd a few years ago for about
270K, he's been giving me lots of tips :) Well, on how to come second.

If anyone else is interested, Thursday July 2nd is the last day to sign
up on chipmeup.com as I am playing on the 3rd.

Thanks very much Mark, sorry for all that crazy mess today with the
buddy transfer; I have a very long email into Stars telling them what I
think for springing that new security policy on us out of the blue.

WSOP 2009 Main Event - trip report day 1

The old timers here will all know about the power of PRESTO, pocket
fives, the best hand in poker.

I arrived Hellmuth late today, around 12:30 after an accident on the
freeway held up traffic for a long while. But no matter, we started
with 30,000 chips and blinds of 50-100. I sit down in the BB and low
and behold, PRESTO, the planets are clearly aligned. A player raises my
blind, but of course he doesn't know I have the nuts. When the hand is
over I have 1,800 less chips. Over the next few hours I go as low as
23K, back to 29, down to 27.

Forward a long while later and me playing my usual rock like self (well
mostly :) ). 55, AGAIN! I know, what are the chances; my faith is not
diminished by the earlier anomaly. Again in the BB. It's 200 to go, I
have built my stack up to 36K, and a loose player makes it 500 to go up
front. Mr. IAMAROCKIONLYPLAY4HANDS who I'm not sure has even played a
hand yet makes it 1K to go. I decide to call, figuring if I hit my set
and the board looks safe, I'm doubling up. The board is 952 rainbow, oh
yeah! I check, first raiser checks, Mr. Rock makes it 2K. I checkraise
to 5K figuring there's no point in slow playing as he's not going to
give me any action unless he has one of those premium hands. The first
raiser folds, Mr. Rock calls! Oh yeah. Now, I suppose he could have 99
but it really seems unlikely given that 99 is not AA KK QQ or AK. The
turn is a low card and I bet out 10K. He calls! OMG, am I being sucked
in by 99, or can he really not get away from aces? The river is a
somewhat scary J. He could have JJ, but there again, he could have 3
pairs bigger. I decide it's worth the risk, I bet out 20K! He calls!
UGH, he has to have me beat, although he didn't move in so it's not JJ.
It's not, it's QQ. WOW, that was some pretty bad calling seeing as my
image at the table was at least as rock like as his. I now have 60K and
pretty much never lose it. I get up to 67K but end the day at 57K. I
haven't checked the numbers yet but I'm guessing we lost about 1/3 of
the field and that the average is around 45K. I play again in 4 days in
day 2a. This is fun!

WSOP 2009 Main Event - trip report day 2

You know how you say "there was this guy at the table and he raised
every hand", well we had him, and I'm not exaggerating. His name is
Owen Crowe (
http://www.pokerpages.com/players/profiles/61078/owen-crowe.htm ), a
super tough opponent who placed 15th in the main event last year and 5th
in a NL this year. He raised every single hand when action was to him,
the whole day, with maybe 5 or 6 exceptions. He would also call most
raises, and would sometimes fold to reraises but not too often. He was
two to my left, which made it very difficult for me to do any steals
because he'd usually call, then he'd have position on most flops. I was
card dead most of the day, but managed enough little moves to stay
around my original 57K. I got as high as 70K, as low as 45K.

I raised one hand with 77, Owen reraised, and I reluctantly called, but
not really any choice because he could have anything, and he'd done it
to me twice already so I think he just saw it as easy money. The flop
wasn't too bad, 776 with two hearts. I checked, he bet quite big, I
called. We both checked the blank turn. I made a big mistake on the
river, I moved in, trying to represent a missed flush, and just hoping
he'd made a straight or had an overpair or something. But he just
folded. It would have been much better to check again as he often would
bluff big on the river to try to shut out a short stack opponent.

Then, with an hour to go at the end of day 2, and with 64K, plenty big
enough to take to day 3, I got the cursed Aces, the hand I wouldn't wish
on anybody. By now another strong player had come to the table, sitting
to Owen's left. He played just like Owen, raising with junk, calling
raises with weak hands. They would get involved in many hands, and I'd
seen the new guy bluff many times. Owen folded, but the other guy
called my standard raise. Long story short, AA sux, I played bad, and I
lost a huge amount of chips, down to 25K.

Even end of day was a bad beat because they stop the clock with 10
minutes to go and 'randomly' (it's always a 3) deal a card to determine
how many more hands to play. It was a 3, but I'd just gone though the
blinds, so I missed several hands that might have given me a chance to
come back.

So, 19,400 to take into day 3 with 600-1200 200 ante; not a lot of time
to catch a hand or do something crazy. But the good news is that if I
do move in and win I'll be back up to about 45K which is quite playable.
