Just finished binge-watching 30 Rock and was constantly reminded there is no chance that show could be made today. They made fun of white, black, Asian, fat, skinny, tall, short, bald, gay, straight, democrat, republican, and old people to name a few. It was funny as hell and as far as I know, no one picketed or tried to cancel them.

To their credit, they didn't distribute the episodes with black face to streaming.

We old geezers around here grew up on political comedy. I remember LBJ, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Regan, Bush, and Clinton jokes. Sad to say those days are gone as well.

One of the least offensive comics, Jerry Seinfeld, will not even play college campuses anymore. That's sad because campus venues are a great place to catch shows. I saw Seinfeld, Bill Mahre, Sarah Silverman, Joe Rogan, and Penn and Teller at Bass Concert hall at UT Austin, all in about 18 months.

I watched the latest Dave Chappelle special the other day, the one that is causing so much controversy and criticism from the LGBTLMNOP. I didn't see what the fuss was about. He was honoring transgenders more than anything. I thought his story about fighting the lesbian/transgender was funny. If you are going to pretend you are a man, and take a swing at a man, don't be surprised if he tries to hit back. I thought his story about his transgender friend who opened for him in Detroit was touching.

I saw it last night. As you said, if anything it was pro-trans. I think what they took issue with was when he said every one of us came out between a woman's legs.

Fucking craziness is all it is.

When Tina Fey was the head writer at SNL, it truly sucked. She started up 30
Rock, and from the start, I thought it was the greatest comedy ever, right up
there with that old MTM comedy factory output. Strange. So I agree with you,
but only up until the later seasons where it became totally politicized, and
clearly moved hard left. Same thing happened with Parks and Rec, only sooner.
Fey’s great redeeming value is that she is not at all afraid to make fun of
herself.

I had forgotten how funny it was. I didn't se any over teh top politics. They still made fun of everyone up to the end,

One thing I forgot was that after Tina Fey left SNL as the head writer, SNL
got funny again. That was what made it all so strange to me. I guess SNL just
didn’t fit her. 30 Rock sure did.

I have not watched SNL in decades except for clips on YouTube.

Tina Fey was so good at doing Palin that everyone thinks she said "I can see Russia from my front porch" instead of it being Fey's joke.
The best political impression since Phil Hartman did Clinton.

Hartman as Clinton "jogging" into McDonald's was hilarious. "Intercepted by warlords!"

I thought Darrell Hammond's Al Gore was pretty good as well. "Lock...box" "I didn't mess with Texas."

One of the best skits was when Palin was on with her. At some point in the
show, they crossed paths, and as Palin kinda smirked at her, Fey steeled
herself and looked brave and strode on. All feigned of course, but it worked.
Like I said, Fey knew how to make fun of herself. I admire that.

Yup, funny woman, half the jokes on 30 Rock were making fun of her. Baldwin made the show, that man can act.

The interactions between those two were always perfect, and absolutely
hilarious. I couldn’t stop laughing watching that clip - again. Like I
said, that show reminded me of the glory days of the MTM sitcom factory.

'You can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska.' That's what Palin said. Tina Fey was just riffing on that.

What made it funny was that Palin was listing that as an example of her foreign policy background.

Try watching Cheers again. There is a lot of cringy things in it, or even
the old MASH series. They actually called the black male nurse
Spearchucker.

Doctor, not nurse. In the book, at least, he was an anesthesiologist.
