I wrote this in the "drunk at the table " thread in response to another of
Will's posts , in which he tries to portray the calm ever-steadying
"pseudo-guru" who is always there to tell us shit we already know about
"long term" and "it all works itself out "

You know .. tedious shit we dont want to hear when we make a post about a
bad beat or a monster suck-out at a key moment

**************

i am not sure Will DOES KNOW anything about poker . I think he knows a lot
about what poker is "supposed" to be

he sits here and 'snipes" at people who actually PLAY the game .

He is the first to say "stay calm" , when normal humans are ready to lose
their minds

he is the first to say "that is good for you " , when someone posts a beat
that rips their heart out , in a key spot , in a situation they feel is
important or worth sharing

i dont think he knows anything about "running bad" .

i dont think he has ever been "under pressure" I dont think he knows
anything about the "human " side of poker

I had a funny interaction with Brew in the last 2 weeks . Brew was at the
final table in a spot that was bigger than prolly anyone here has been in
, in a long time . I was railing him and goofing with some of the other
RGPers there .

brew was nursing a shorter stack and had just doubled up but he was still
in a spot where he needed to try to accumulate chips . he decided to
steal UTG

brew 'scooted" UTG with a really bad hand and he got caught and got broke .

I decided it would be "cute " to needle him about it ..you know ..
returning some of what I had recieved here .

As I got into full "needle" mode , brew 's response completely took the
wind out of my sails . he admitted that he was tilting and he said 'it was
a bad play "

Brew is a guy who has "been there , done that " . he admitted to being
human and he recognized a mistake , and did not spend 3 mionths trying to
justify it , as so many others here would have done .

Poker is a game played by humans , humans who are affected by the things
that happen to them in key situations or when they are under pressure.
Anyone who says that certain situations dont bring out our emotions and
our weaknesses tend to expose themselves ,doesnt know what he is talking
about

i will take a guy with "heart" and emotion and all the other traits of
being human , any day , any time , anywhere

i think Will is a very bright guy , who has never been allowed to be human
, and let his emotions rule the day . his constant portrayal of the calm ,
steady , voice of reason is quite frankly A PAIN IN THE ASS.

brew became a better player by handling what he had done with honesty and
candor

if i want to know about how to edit a book .. I will ask Will

if I want to talk to someone about getting your brains beaten out for
weeks at a time and how to deal with emotional shit and human shit , i
will ask Brew

the poker world is laden with "pseudo gurus" , who have made their niche
of recognition by always being the one to say "calm down" ,, "long term
math " .'things will work out " . i have seen em for 30 years ..They
contribute nothing

I will take a guy like Brew over one of these guys any day .

if I had to drive cross country with Will or with Brew?

Will wouldnt last till the county line till i kicked him out !

Brew and I might have to stop and fight along the way , but there is no
question which one I would pick.

And I think Brew would be a shitload more fun to have a bunch of beers
with !!!

I just cannot imagine myself sipping martinis with Will..........I dont
like olives !!

I've just started reading this forum recently after years of absence.
I instantly remebered Will after reading a post of his.

I don't think Will offers any profound poker advice but what he does
do is tell it like it is *consistently*.

OK sure, he makes little mistakes like implying you don't want to be a
favourite in a hand when what he was really saying is you want to be
in a huge hand as a huge favourite every day of the week and twice on
Sundays!

Not fucking moan about it when you lose!

If Will is "tediously" good, you are originally bad every day. Kudos.

Starting another thread to defend your right to be a whiny cunt.
Fine.

I remember some of the beats. One was calling an all in bet predraw with
a straight when I guy was stone cold bluffing. He gulped and drew 3 (to
AQ) and made a bigger straight. My heart was not ripped out.

I've never had my heart ripped out by losing a pot, even those times when
losing a pot meant losing every cent I had.

If you can't take it then you shouldn't gamble.

I'm pretty sure he thinks no other reaction is possible.

His thinking seems to run, "I'm human and I am always self destructive and
behave irrationally therefore if you don't self destruct and behave
irrationally you aren't human".

But it's a good thing to have people who are incapable of rational thought
populating poker games.

Yep. I like Doggy, he's just being who he is.

Will in NH writes good posts, good insight, non-partisan. That people
like that are still present is one of the reasons I still lurk here
(and occasionally rear up for short bursts of meaningless activity).

Crawling back down into my hole now.
