Governor Palin was expected to be beaten by Senator Biden yet the
reverse has occured. Sarah Palin has won by a clear knock out!!!!!
If you agree with me, please make your opinion heard by voting for
Palin in this poll: http://www.squidoo.com/vicepresidentsarahpalin
If you disagree with me, do not vote on the poll in that website. You
are clearly a biased Liberal jerk.
It'll depend on how many posts Clouddipshit makes tomorrow displaying
her bed-wetting fear of the scary lady from Alaska.
Only to Republicans.
Palin relied on Bushisms and Palinisms and no real hard facts. She spoke
as though she did so from a script (as I expected....memorize, memorize,
memorize). As Biden pointed out more than once, Palin didn't answer some
questions. All she could do was call herself and John a maverick....and
surprising called the Feds incapable of managing a health care system
after what happened on Wall street...gee...guess what else they are
incapable of running.
..

We must change the way we live,
or the climate will do it for us.
That's one!
Biden was to the point, had examples, stuck to the questions presented.
Palin often avoided, gave no real policy issues, and blathered on.
Win to Biden.
I thought they were both terrific - far better than McCain and Obama.
I wish the POTUS ticket included both of them running together.
[I think Biden made a mistake by looking at the moderator 85% of the
time, while Palin always looked into the camera.]
Yeah, and George Bush has been a great president. lol.
Go troll somewhere else, you counterfeit fraud.
You cross-posting Asswipe.
> Talk about a major upset!!!
The propaganda machine did everything it could beforehand to set the bar
very low for Palin so she would have a chance to clear it. That approach
may cause some to believe that Palin 'won' simply becasue she didn't break
down in tears and walk off the stage, but it won;'t fool anyone that was
viewing the debate as 2 potential Vice Presidents facing off on equal terms.
The debate questions were very baited. Lots of 'what have you done wrong',
'what have you changed your mind about', how would you run things
differently than the Presidential candidate you are running with', why
didn't you want to be Vice President (or why didn't you know what the job
was about), etc... Both candidates successfully avoided those traps and
steered the questions into positives about themselves and their
runningmates.
Palin's weak point was that every answer followed the same 'feel'. The
answer would start with 20 seconds or so of 'girl next door' banter and
friendliness; then her voice would actually change pitch, her head would
turn to the camera, and she would start regurgitating a pre-programmed
response like it was a recorded message. She clearly has a capacity to
memorize long soundbites, but she didn't make them seem natural or
believable as 'her thoughts'.
Biden's weak point was in stumbling over words frequently and then having to
go back several words to restate the one he intended to use. the end result
was a bit awkward, just like Palin, but a much more believable presentation
in terms of the 'feel' that he was speaking his mind.
The biggest plus of the debate was that it seemed to be moderated very well
with the two candidates keeping on track, timewise, or at least not having a
'red light' turn on every minute or so to show that they had gone over a
limit. The moderator was able to deliver the questions without becoming the
focus of the debate (as well as the debate format itself not becoming the
focus of the debate) , which was an improvement over some other debates in
the last decade or so.
It's cute how she says "ya" and "thinkin' " and "workin' "
I think she actually winked at me.
I wouldn't say she won, but she certainly exceeded expectations. My
biggest complaints are that 1) the way she kept staring into the camera
gave her a bit of a deer-in-the-headlights look and 2) the folksy,
girl-next-door demeanor wore thin fairly quickly. She also seemed very
much like a yes-man to the McCain policies, with little independent
though or consideration to what those policies were. I think the best
thing she did was to review her record, which does seem to allay a bit
of the criticism that she isn't an effective, qualified executive, at
least with respect to energy.
Of course, that was also true of Biden. He also seemed to give a
rubber-stamp to the Obama policies. And that was my biggest complaint
about him: he just seemed to read the exact script from the Presidential
debate, with little deviation. He also missed several clear
opportunities to nail Palin to the wall and trip her up. He appeared
very calm and collected throughout most of the evening.
Like the Presidential debate, I'm not sure there was a clear winner.
Neither candidate really did much to expand on what has already been
explained. And, like the Presidential debate, I think that this debate
is going to do little to sway the independents in a particular
direction. Certainly, if you've already taken sides, you're just not
going to reconsider based on this debate.

Biden's body language was not stand-offish, the exact opposite of
McShame's 'tude last Friday. Thus, he presented himself as not
personalizing anything he was saying against Palin and instead
directing his criticism to McCain. He did what he needed to do, which
was to rise above the McShame-ish bullshit without bullying Palin.

<plonk>
Biden has a great smile.
Biden should have been the Pres candidate
He didn't gaffe on that. He was (may still be) a professor of
constitutional law since 1991at the Widener University School of Law.
Article I of the Constitution, section 3 does describe some parts of
the job of the VP. I've heard Biden rattle off other sections of the
Constitution where a given topic are to be found, and he could/should
have done that last night, but it might have sounded haughty or
unctuous.
Art. I, sec. 3
[. . .]
The Vice President of the United States shall be President of the
Senate, but shall have no Vote, unless they be equally divided.
The Senate shall chuse their other Officers, and also a President pro
tempore, in the absence of the Vice President, or when he shall
exercise the Office of President of the United States.
---
Other than rules of succession, rules for acting as President if the
President is still alive but incompetent, and rules for electing or
impeaching, there is nothing whatsoever about any powers of the Vice
President. His sole explicitly granted power is the power to split a
tie in the Senate.
Though it seems rational that the President should be able to delegate
executive authority to the Vice President, Cheney's idea that the
office is some kind of mutant platypus, neither executive nor
legislative, is a ludicrous insult to rationality.
You, sir, win.
I am not biased. I've judged other debates rather objectively. Palin
did far better than was expected by most. Her debating failures were
more plentiful, greivous and unforgivable than were his. He scored
more points. More points, less failures determine the victor.
But she did it by affectation (playing the folksy card), dodging
questions and spewage of dubious value or merit. Avoiding, dodging or
failing to provide coverage of any question(s) posed by the moderator
is unforgivable in any debate. She made statements of "fact" that he
rebutted, showing them (early on) to be either deceitful or outright
lies (listener's choice). You cannot declare that you might not
answer the questions the way the moderator desires or expects.
Biden stayed on point consistently, made a handful of (almost
definitely) known-false assertions. He was knowledgable on the
points, on the topics and on the general history of Obama and McCain.
When asked a question, he answered rather comprehensively with
examples and specificity.
Her repeated maverick references were absurd. If someone is truly a
maverick then everyone is aware of that. He seems the average, old
republican, bringing no new ideas.
She kept saying that the surge worked, and the republicans keep
harping that point, but the surge was the minor contribution to
declines in Iraqi violence. Even National security adviser Stephen
Hadley said "It was the surge that provided more resources and a
security context to support newly developed techniques and operations"
but that the "newly developed techniques and operations" aka the
massive new wet-operation. Also, we have the cease-fire ordered by
Muqtada al-Sadr and finally the Anbar Awakening. Anyone would have to
agree that the al-Sadr and Anbar contributed chiefly to the drop in
violence.
Check The War Within: Secret White House History 2006-2008 by Woodward
for surge-related details.
It wasn't really a gaffe. The first mention of the Vice-President is in
Article I, where the V.P. is designated the President of the Senate (and
gets to vote in the event of a tie). What was a gaffe was his posturing
about Cheney being "dangerous" for asserting that the V.P. has a role in
both branches. Nevertheless, if Palin had made similar statement about
the Articles, Risky, Orange, Clave and the gang would be hammering her
over it.

Sure is:
Article. I. - The Legislative Branch
Section 3 - The Senate
The Vice President of the United States shall be
President of the Senate, but shall have no Vote, unless they be
equally divided.
And of course there are also roles and duties defined in Article II and
some amendments. The office of V.P. is somewhat unique in having roles
defined by the Constitution in both the Legislative and Executive Branches.
Cheney's attempt to avoid testimony by claiming to be part of the
Legislative Branch was specious, but Biden's posturing was both
hysterical and wrong. On this question, advantage: Palin.
> Palin was fine.
> So was Biden.
>
> Anyone claiming a large "win" by either candidate reveals themselves to be a
> partisan asshole.
Yep. But what else is new? Partisans always claim that their guy
mopped up the floor with the other guy.
I observed weeks ago that Palin is a kind of Rorschach test. How people
perceive her tells a lot about their own political views.
That was one of several low points, another was when she insisted that
General McLelland never said the surge would not work in Iraq. His name is
McKiernan.
I laughed when Biden tried to link John McCain to President Bush. "There ya'
go again pointing backward," she said. "Now doggone it, let's look ahead."
Is this John Wayne impersonation wearing thin on anyone?
Given her performance during the week leading up to the debate, anything
better than a total humilation going to be called a success for her.
Biden was selling a sleek new car while Palen was trying to sell a
beat up old Ford. Palen made quite a few people think favorably about
that old Ford. That was pretty remarkable.
Obama should be thankful he chose Biden. Biden did a masterful job.
Any less skillful debater might have been swamped by the compelling
and feisty Palen. The lady was terrific.
Sorry, all I could think about during the debate was Bill Clinton's
blow job. Verily he was the Antichrist.
That's being Presidential.

It's very Presidential. All of the Presidents do this. No one would

Hah! You think you're so smart. If he wrote about it it wouldn't be
secret, right?
The lady is a master of selling style over substance, sizzle over steak.
From a pure performance standpoint, given what she had to work with, she did
all right. But it was a "debate" to determine the next leader of the free
world, not a vaudeville show, and the issues are deadly serious.
Then the world is full of them.
Anyone who thinks that Palin came anywhere close to winning that debate is
being partisan.
Independents chose Biden 2-1.
I pretty much agree with you.
Now the question is :
What will win ?

"Who you gonna believe, me or your lying eyes?"
The outcome of Republican policies is plain to see. The fact that they
want us to ignore those consequences is, in itself, very telling.

She was horrible, but not as horrible as people expected. To prevent
her from being horrible she was given a couple of talking points and she
evaded questions to go back to the talking points she knew. If asked if
the sun revolves around the earth or the earth revolves around the sun
she would answer it by bringing up her experience with oil companies and
how we have to dig for more oil!!

Debates are vaudeville shows. If you want substance, each could give
their positions without a face off. The whole point of putting the
candidates on one stage to argue their positions is to test their
ability to persuade under pressure.
That's what a debate is: a contest of skill. And Palin more than held
her own. You may not like Palin's product--John McCain--but no one can
deny that she did a great job trying to sell him.
I went to the website linked in your post and
voted in both polls; at this time, here are the
results:
Who won the Veep debate?
Sarah Palin 30%
Joe Biden 70%
Who won the first Prez debate?
John McCain 34.6%
Barack Obama 65.4%
If you listen to the mainstream media there is no way you'll ever hear
that...heck, if Biden didn't show-up because he couldn't find the
auditorium, they (the mainstream media) would still somehow give it to
Biden. I was just listening to the network news, switching between ABC, CBS
& NBC and each "analyst" said the exact some thing -- to the word, which
was, "I would give it to Biden on points but Republicans must have breathed
a sigh of relief with Sarah Palin doing as well as she did." How do you get
three different political analyst from the different networks saying the
exact same sentences in the exact same order?

Did you catch the part where Biden talked about Hezbollah being kicked
out of Lebanon?
Even I caught that monumental gaffe.

Joe Biden’s Alternate Universe
Michael J. Totten - 10.03.2008 - 8:10 AM
In Thursday night’s vice presidential debate between Senator Joe Biden
and Governor Sarah Palin, Biden said the strangest and most
ill-informed thing I have ever heard about Lebanon in my life.
“When we kicked — along with France, we kicked Hezbollah out of
Lebanon, I said and Barack said, “Move NATO forces in there. Fill the
vacuum, because if you don’t know — if you don’t, Hezbollah will
control it.”
Now what’s happened? Hezbollah is a legitimate part of the government
in the country immediately to the north of Israel.”
What on Earth is he talking about? The United States and France may
have kicked Hezbollah out of Lebanon in an alternate universe, but
nothing even remotely like that ever happened in this one.
Nobody – nobody – has ever kicked Hezbollah out of Lebanon. Not the
United States. Not France. Not Israel. And not the Lebanese. Nobody.
Joe Biden has literally no idea what he’s talking about.
It’s too bad debate moderator Gwen Ifill didn’t catch him and ask a
follow up question: When did the United States and France kick
Hezbollah out of Lebanon?
The answer? Never. And did Biden and Senator Barack Obama really say
NATO troops should be sent into Lebanon? When did they say that? Why
would they say that? They certainly didn’t say it because NATO needed
to prevent Hezbollah from returning–since Hezbollah never went
anywhere.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------
I expect that story will be all over the TV and newspapers this
weekend.

Thank God Palin didn't say this or we would never hear the end of it.
I counted at least 14 lies by the "GasBag". Slo' Joe should thank his
lucky stars he had an ultra-leftist Obama supporter as a moderator.
She pulled his chestnutts out of the fire several times. If you kooks
have so much confidence in the Obama/Biden circus why not insist on
the next debate be moderated by Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh? Just to
be "fair" and we all know the liberals are all about "fairness".
Whoever the mainstream media and Hollywood left chooses to win will
win.
Biden could've dropped his knickers and took a 10 pound dump on the
stage and the uberlibs would be saying he "won the debate". Who do
they think they're trying to bullshit?
It would have been called condescending, and rightfully so. I think he did
well by staying away from rhetorical gotchas (with the exception of the
"Ultimate Bridge to Nowhere", which was well-played).

Why, that liberal media conspiracy, of course. (tinlmc)

Yes. But look at the clown who's in the whitehouse now? She couldn't do
worse, surely. And I'm not even voting for her. But sheesh. She's one strong
cookie. And don't kid yourself, this was no "debate." Too bad, that.
jc (hope we see some genuine debates in coming weeks)

Never, *EVER* say that...

As a flaming liberal, I just thank god he's not Kucinich.

LORELAI: I am so done with plans. I am never, ever making one again.
It never works. I spend the day obsessing over why it didn't work
and what I could've done differently. I'm analyzing all my shortcomings
when all I really need to be doing is vowing to never, ever make a plan
ever again, which I'm doing now, having once again been the innocent
victim of my own stupid plans. God, I need some coffee.
I wasn't able to count, so I can't answer that one fairly. I was too
busy replenishing my cooler full of Coors and Miller Genuine Draft for
"Joe Six Pack" who had stopped by unexpectedly for a visit. He
could've called you know, but "average working family folk" like him
don't use cell phones.... ;-)

But, from the left, we hear...CRICKETS
And of course the premium example of this is JFK, the KING of the
libtards and one of the worst presidents of all time beating Nixon in
1960 because "he looked better on tv".
So STFU already.
DEBATE...................? What debate??? All I heard was a lot of
talk hinging on the same old shit, with very little being said. When
will it dawn on this country--WE NEED A THIRD PARTY!!

I deny it. I thought she was completely out of her league.
These are serious times, the Republicans are not going to win.

How about the line immediately before, where he said Hamas won the
elections in the West Bank?
"Here's what the president said when we said no. He insisted on
elections on the West Bank, when I said, and others said, and Barack
Obama said, 'Big mistake. Hamas will win. You'll legitimize them.' What
happened? Hamas won."
Hamas never won an election in the West Bank. They did win an election
in Gaza.
Biden was completely muddled on the Middle East question.

Give it up for foreign policy expert Joe Biden folks! *crickets*
Was that before or after Hamas endorsed Obama for President?
Irish Mike
How come that theory didn't pan out in 2000 and 2004?

Unlike Palin, Obama has demonstrated actual knowledge and
understanding of the issues as well as the ability to form independent
thoughts.

The voters aren't. And among the pundits, the righties are calling
it for Palin, the lefties are saying Biden.

Gimme a break. Palin didn't even understand the question.
It was scored 85-15 for the home team according to the faithful, and 2-1
Biden according to independents. Overall about 60-40 Biden.
