I don't care that he's an atheist, I've always considered him to be an
abrasive asshole who thought that he was much smarter than he actually is.
I guess he's done something recently to push your buttons, but I have not
seen it.
When I was in Vegas for the WSOP I saw him walking down the hallway in the
Rio. I suppose I should have just sucker-punched Jillette when I had the
chance. He's a huge guy, though. He might be able to kick some ass. The
celebrity that I've always wanted to fistfight is Axl Rose. I will pick a
fight with Axl if I see him anywhere.

What he's done to push my buttons is that he is EVERYWHERE promoting his

Why not keep your stupidity to yourself? I realize that he has can

Most definitely not. He is a blasphemous atheist and a libertarian

Interesting question. You can't be a heretic as an atheist. Can you
blaspheme?
"Blasphemy is irreverence[1] toward holy personages, religious artifacts,

I would think most atheists would be irreverent toward holy personages,

We saw his show at the Rio in January, and heard him do an extended Q&A at the
local Center for Inquiry last week -- it was very entertaining.
His whole approach is based on being humble, actually. Though he believes that
both religious people and atheists have a responsibility to their fellow man to
prosyletize.
Read his new book -- it's funny, entertaining, and probably shocking to a lot of
people.

No it wasn't. He's got it entirely wrong. Christians are trying to help
mankind. People like Penn Jillette are trying to gather followers on
their futile path to nowhere. Penn Jillette is lost, and he wants company.

And it's true. That's my point about Penn Jillette, the fat heathen fuck
can't keep his mouth shut. It would be different if Jennifer Aniston was
running around talking about atheism, but Penn Jillette is hard on the
eyes. I just can't stand listening to him, or looking at him.
______________________________________________________________________
LOL. If you believe that statement is true, you either --
(1) have no idea what the word proselytize means.
(2) have no knowledge of history, and little knowledge of the current
world in which you live.
(3) are being a jackass on purpose.
I'll put you down for (3). Not so sure about mo.
If your stupid superstitious premises were correct, you would be
helping people. Since you have no evidence for all this god business,
you would do much more for mankind by simply trying to be good to
people.
If Christianity is true, I believe it would be every Christian's duty to
murder young children, especially your own! Just think about it --
small children and babies, when they die, go directly to heaven. No
questions asked! So, what would YOU rather have for your child, a free
pass into heaven forever, or a risky adventure through mod life, perhaps
as sinful as it has ever been?
You'd have to be a total lunatic to risk it. I understand, God might
judge you harshly, but it is the ultimate sacrifice to protect the
children -- your own children -- from eternal damnation. And you can!
Just murder them before they become old enough to fuck it up!
Based on my understanding of Christianity, abortion is actually every
parent's pious duty. Send that kid up to heaven. Do you really think
God would punish you for committing such a selfless act? I don't.

Sunday School?
Besides that, what's wrong with me logic? Simple questions for
Christians, beginning with this hypothetical.
Imagine I am a zealous Christian, and a truly selfless parent. My
child's welfare is the most important thing in the universe. Nothing
else matters, comparatively. Something many parents would agree with!
I kill my child at the age of 4 months, believing I'm guaranteeing my
child eternal life in heaven. The questions for Christians --
(1) Have I sinned? -- surely they'll say yes, and maybe I'm going to
hell forever, but..
(2) Does my child go to heaven? -- surely, he does.
(3) Were my child's chances of going to heaven something less than 100%,
if he was allowed to live out his full life in sinful America? You had
better believe it, I'd think.
(4) HAVEN'T I DONE AN AWESOME THING FOR MY 4 MONTH OLD SON? Why have
none of you Christians ever taken this noble, selfless step to ensure
eternal heavenly life for your offspring? DO YOU NOT BELIEVE? Or
you're just selfish pricks?
That's nearly as many as George W. Bush MURDERED before breakfast

I think the problem is harder than that: Why should mortal man be able to

That's pretty interesting. Why doesn't Patti the atheist talk shit about

His IQ goes to 11!

When I attended a Church of England primary school I was taught that
"father, son, and holy ghost" (aka the Trinity) are one and the same.
i.e. all 3 are the same entity (although I think the Catholics believe
they are separate)

I saw their show in Vegas circa 1996 and I thought it was pretty good. I
had no idea Penn was a vocal atheist until this thread. Either a) I live
under a rock or b) Paul is vastly overstating Penn's in-your-face-ness.

Wouldn't it suck to kill your children and have that heartache in life
only to discover that there is only nothingness after death. Oh wait, you
wouldn't discover that would you.

Hmmm..I dunno about that. I'm atheist and I respect other's beliefs and
don't feel the need to denigrate them. I actually think about whether
what I say will offend a religious person before I speak (most of the
time...sometimes I'm drunk).

Jews: still waiting for the Messiah
Christians: believe Jesus is the Messiah
Muslims: believe the Messiah has come twice (Mohammed should do porn!)

On a more serious note, (the above was a humorous comment) the left wing
is using "a Jillette" to give Atheists "exposure." Ya know, that left
wing "public awareness" agitprop crap they always use when they're
beginning a new attack-angle on American society; in this case, it's an
attack on religion again.
They start out with a seemingly harmless comic type, "just talking about
himself," but the idea is to get the public softened-up to hearing about
Atheists' "views:" which is anti-religion, of course, but Jillette makes
it sound like fun.
Then, the ACLU will be representing Atheists in attack-law suits against
religion before left-wing activist judges. With a rigged jury, of
course.

Oh really? Please tell that to the worker who makes $40 a month! Or the
women who are FORCED to have abortions. Or the persecuted Buddhists, or
the people who try to ESCAPE from China in ship containers. Or the
millions of people imprisoned for minor crimes, even executed for
misdemeanors. Try writing a column critical of the Communist Party and
see what happens there. Or the restricted use of the internet, the
state-controlled press. The total government control over every aspect of
their lives.
China sounds like a wonderful place. It is a perfect prototype for what
our country is going to become.

Well they are 1 of the only few remaining communist countries, and of the
few left, they seem to be doing the best (they have lots of money anyway).
What other commie countries are there, Cuba, Vietnam, Korea? All those
suck ass.

Uhh, I think I SAID that already.
But any objective person would recognize that the general attack on
religion by people like Patti Beadles or Penn Jillete is directed against
CHRISTIANS! If I am wrong, then please direct me to where Patti Beadles
has ever gotten on her soap box about Jews. I'll pay you a dollar for
every time she has done it. But you cannot show me that because she has
never done it. However, you give ME a dollar for every time she has
joined in a thread where Christianity is being attacked. I use PayPal,
thanks.

That's probably a good idea.
I always remeber during a rest bite for my mother at home (she was dying
of cancer at the time) we were chatting, my mother, one of her friends and
myself. My mother was religious and was taking a lot of solace in that in
her impending death. Anyway, my mother and her friend were talking about
God and I just unthinkingly made some stupid, mocking comment that
believing in God was about the same as believing in Santa Claus.
It was like one of those situations where you hear what you just said with
a 1 second time delay and I just stopped dead in my tracks with
realisation. My mother (an emotionally unstable person as it was) burst
into tears.
That happened 8 years ago. On so many occassions since I've wished so
fucking much that I could take it back. But I can't.
-------
I must be viewing atheism wrong then. I view myself as atheist, because,
I don't believe there is a god or higher power (hence a-theist). However,
I don't pass judgement on anybody else's belief's, and I don't feel the
need or even desire to try to convince people to not believe what they
want to. In other words, I don't think all atheists are "anti-religion".
I don't even think atheist means that.

Yeah, that's what I mean.
On a completely unrelated note about mother's death....
I have heart problems, and the first occurrence of such years ago landed
me in the emergency room. My mother called that night when I was home to
ask how I was, and I didn't want to talk about it, so I let it go to the
machine. At 6 am the next morning my father called to tell me my mother
had died during the night. I have always felt that had I answered that
call perhaps she would have gone to be earlier, or later, or worrying
less, or something, and might have lived a bit longer.

Let me clear it up for you what communist means, since you apparently
were sleeping through the first 60 years of your life.
Communism MURDERED over a 100,000,000 million human beings in the last
century! Is that enough of a reason for me not to like communism? What
the fuck is wrong with people like you and Chris Robin and Opie Manager
and Iceman?
Can you or anyone else on this newsgroup think of ONE example where the
people did not live in absolute misery wherever communism existed? Even
ONE? Why are you people so soft on a system that has caused so much
misery?

Plenty others. Plenty you generally don't hear about. Start with the
African continent, and you'll find almost every country there is
communist. Mozambique, Angola, Zimbabwe, etc. No communist country has
the word "communism" in its title. But look at who is running the show,
who controls the government, the economy, the means of production.
Suriname is communist, but I'll give you a dollar for every RGPer who can
identify Suriname on the map.
