I watched a bit of a HSP broadcast last night on GSN.
There was a hand where Greenstein open raised with AA and got 7 calls

flop came 22 10.. Greenstein bets , Durr raises , eastgate calls ,
bernstein calls

turn is a 7 no suit bg checks , Durr bets 105k , eastgate folds the 2
and bg folds the AA

ANYONE SEE THIS .. and when was the original air date

this was one of the weirdest hands i have ever seen

-Nothing personal, but you're full of shit. The only controversy is the
last building that went crumbling down on 9/11. While I personally find
that group ridiculous, you're out of your fucking mind if you're moving it
to the twin towers.

That was a few years ago. I have no idea why Eastgate folded his trips.

Barry Greenstein did a really long explanation on one of his audio blogs
about that hand. It was a great description of the hand and thoughts by
both players. From what I remember, he thought Eastgate's fold was good
based on the thinking but his was bad. I realize this doesn't make much
sense being able to see the hole cards, but he described it based on the
thinking from each players' points of views at the time.

barry answered a few questions about this hand, and he said eastgate was
playing over his usual limits ... timid. sounds right. the funniest
thing about the hand, if i remember correctly, was dwan bet brunson that
eastgate folded the best hand...

fairly obvious.. durr knows his own hand is crap, and what else is
eastgate cold calling durr's raise with on the flop? barry raised UTG
and then bet out at the flop with that many callers - obvious
overpair. the only way barry would have the best hand is if he had TT,
but if he had TT, he isnt folding.

I was thinking the same thing, actually. Eastgate had trip deuces
with a shit kicker and was looking to play out of position on the
river. A bet from him on the river would have been completely
worthless. Nothing that he beat would call. Plus he has Barry behind
him. It was vanishingly unlikely Barry had a deuce, but he could have
trip tens. Dwan could have trip tens, but worse, Dwan could have a
better deuce. Personally, I hate going broke with weak trips and a
shit kicker out of position.

Once Eastgate is out, though, what does Barry have to do? Either fold
or go all in. What are Dwan's likely hands? With most people top
pair weak kicker is not even in the range someone makes a move like
that with. What does make that move? A deuce with a good kicker.
Maybe trip 10s or 7s. I think he just didn't want to go broke with
one pair. And the problem was, that you almost have to go broke
against durrrr there.

But Greenstein would rather make money steadily and on fairly sure
things, not inviting wild swings. The problem is durrrr is exactly
the opposite, and plays like he absolutely doesn't care about money.
I think Barry, after watching durrrr on HSP, is not going to make this
mistake the next time. But it's a "crying all-in." I.e. he knows
he's basically flipping a coin, slightly weighted in his favor, that
the maniac doesn't have the goods this time. Of course, durrrr
himself probably wouldn't play this hand in exactly the same way
against Barry next time.

It's hard to argue at this point that Tom Dwan is just a flash in the
pan, but I would not be surprised to see him go broke more than a
couple times in his career. The variance of that kind of play must be
absolutely insane.

I'm not sure Dwan would have made that move if he'd known Barry had
exactly AA. I think he probably put him on a range of something like
99-AA. Perhaps he picked up on the fact that Barry wasn't really
pleased to get a table full of callers, or just on the general fact
that a tight player is rarely happy to open-raise and get called by
the entire table, because many of their raising hands don't fare well
against a big field.

i think he just wanted to buy the pot. thats what durr does. just look
at him when he picks up 7-3 offsuit UTG. he literally has to force
himself to fold it.
