The recent post by Bjgkaraoke about Viktor's barring from the HPC
$10-$20 HE game got me thinking.

My thoughts were also spurred by a recent conversation with a Hustler
regular who had been given a 20 minute time out for saying "fuckin
dealer" after losing to a 2 outer in a $900+ pot. This was a regular
customer who plays 1000+ hours a year and does not have a record of
abusive behavior, foul language, or angle shooting.

He had decided to boycott the Hustler and was playing at the Bicycle.
One of his comments about the Bicycle top section was "where are the
women?"

The Hustler sets the standard in L.A. for not allowing abusive
behavior. This includes swearing, spitting, foul language, and dealer
abuse. One player, referred to as Mr. Smelly by the regulars, was
spoken to for coming to casino smelling like a dirty gym sock
everyday.

As a result, the Hustler yellow chip games are very pleasant to play
in. The people are generally very polite to each other, there is a lot
of nice conversation at the table, and one can usually count on a very
congenial and civil atmosphere at the table.

This atmosphere is markedly different from the HPC, Bicycle, and
Commerce yellow chip games. A wider range of behavior is tolerated at
these casinos and the games are much less civil.

Note: The Bicycle may be be trying to do something about this problem.
They posted a big sign this week saying that foul language and abusive
behavior will not be tolerated. The casino manager signed his name at
the bottom of this sign so presumably it means the Bicycle higher ups
are behind this "new policy."

The Hustler yellow chip games have attracted a coterie of regular
women players. They are not playing for a living, are not off duty
casino employees, and are not the usual busted down and out degenerate
wannabe gamblers and drug abusers you see in every poker room. They
are white collar professionals, real estate agents, small and medium
sized business owners, lawyers, etc. who enjoy playing a little
recreational poker. They are uniformally pleasant, well mannered, and
sociable---people you would enjoy talking to at a party or sitting
next to on a long plane flight.

This core of gentlewoman players is not present in the Bicycle, HPC,
and Commerce yellow chip games.

I believe these type of women patronize the Hustler because of the
civil atmosphere the Huslter policy engenders. A couple of them have
told me specifically they play at the Hustler for this specific
reason.

Ken, no debate, the Hustler is clearly the nicest play in town to play, for
both men and women. I have only one problem with your statement; You
mentioned the phrase "yellow chip games." More often than not when I stop
in there, its yellow chip "game." They still haven't come up with the
solution of how to attract top section players (no, I don't know the
solution either). I spoke to Craig K. and Jim M. over the weekend, and I
know they're trying to build up the yellow chip stud games with this big
freeroll, and are trying to re-build the pot limit game with a new host, so
we'll see.

Its the cleanest, most attractive place in town, with the best "zero
tolerance" policy towards abusive players, with the best food and best
service, but has the worst game selection, which is unfortunate. The four
or five months after they opened last year when the pot limit game was
thriving was great, but that seems long ago and far away now.

Hi Steve,

The yellow chip Hustler HE is actually doing fine.

On Sunday and Monday, the slowest nights of the week, there are a
minimum of 2 and usually 3 yellow chip HE tables going from 3PM until
after midnight.

On Tuesday and Wednsday, there are 3 and sometimes 4 yellow HE tables
going during the same hours.

On Friday and Saturday, there are 3 to 5 games going.

The Bicycle Casino actually has less yellow chip HE than the Hustler.
On most weekday nights there are only 1 or 2 $20-$40 HE tables and no
$15-$30.

The Bicycle yellow HE is usually heavily proped with at least 2 house
players in the game.

The Normandie yellow HE is pretty much gone. On some weekday nights
there is no yellow chip HE and usually there is only a lone $15-$30
game.

Last Friday I stopped in at the Hustler and found a good 15-30 game going.I
played in it for awhile, then left. There was also a 20-40 game. The next
afternoon, Saturday, I went there about 3:00 p.m. and the only game they had
going in the top section was a 30-60 game. I hung around for about an hour,
but nothing developed. I don't know what happened after that, but I guess my
timing was off. By the way, Ken, the 10 game at Hollywood is the way you
describe the games at the Hustler. That's one reason Viktor was asked to leave
the game, he didn't fit in with the other people who play there. They wouldn't
tolerate his behavior. Barbara G.

Is Stan Seiff still running the show at the Hustler? If so, I'm not
surprised that he runs a tight ship about abusive behavior. Stan's the nuts.

Stan has been gone from the Hustler for quite a while. Craig Kaufman is the
poker room manager.

In article <ISi37.103$415.1...@paloalto-snr1.gtei.net>,

I remember Stan when he was a floorman at Bay 101. He paid me a compliment
once by telling me he recognized me as a somewhat regular but didn't know
who I was as I was never a problem. The comment was accompanied by a
buffet comp. Clearly someone who recognized the value of players who just
sat down and played.

I wouldn't talk up barring the fish like this. Larry Flynt can get away with
it because he has money and this is his own personal club house where the P/L
doesn't matter.

I've watched small card rooms go under...very quickly...when the owner/pit boss
grew a morality and started 86'ing fish who misbehaved.

Do that and pretty soon you are left with sharks cannibalizing each other

A post like this reaches many women (and men) who are tired of the
scumbags. I have a feeling this will only help to boost those games
because players like myself feel its about time to enjoy a game from
start to finish (whenever that may be).

Bashing the rich just isn't en vouge these days...
