I have a ringer entry I'm holding back, but my benchmark entry will be....Nancy Wilson.

This is from 1977. It's a little rough because she's improvising a lot of it, but when she goes into that intro stumming part at 2:30...chills:

On stage she punctuates that transition with a jumping splits move which
makes it all the more dramatic. And it didn't hurt that she was smokin'
hot. Yeah, that has always been one of my favourite moments in rock.

On a slightly different topic, check out these two young girl
guitarists covering some great rock anthems.

I had never seen it before yesterday. I've never been a fan of the band, but I just happened on it, and I was mesmerized. Naturally, I had to validate my opinion by checking if Nancy Wilson appeared on any of "the lists," and sure enough she was right up there.

I've been working on that strumming pattern all day. lol It's not as easy as it looks. I mastered the little riff yesterday. Good song.

I'll check them out in a bit. Ya, there are A LOT of amazing young guitarists out there these days. My ringer is one of them. I think she might be the best female guitarist in the world.

What's wrong? Don't you like any black musicians?

The truth is I like anyone who can play guitar. They don't even have to be all that good. Skin color is not a factor for me. It would be rather silly if it was, wouldn't it?

Here's a great black female guitarist nobody's ever heard of:

Funny you should mention that, because when I was checking my "best female guitarist lists" the other day I kept seeing Charo on there. Apparently Guitar Player magazine named her the best Flamenco guitarist on a few occasions. I didn't even know she played guitar!

I remember her from when I was a young boy. She used to come out on various variety shows like Merv Griffin and Laugh-in and act like a braindead foreign sex symbol, shake her hips and say "coochi coochi" a lot. I don't even remember her playing guitar at all. She was more like a prop. Meanwhile, the woman was one of the best guitarists around and could speak ten languages. Just goes to show how we used to marginalize people from other cultures in the bad old days.

And really, there is no "best". It's art. I think the best we can do is differentiate between good and great, but even that's just an uninformed opinion half the time. If it were just a matter of who can play scales the fastest and the cleanest, then maybe we could come up with a "best", but there's a lot more to it than technical skill.

Remember when Vanek was saying Mark Knopfler was "soulless" and average at best? LOL! I miss that fucking idiot.

I saw Sonny Landreth a couple of weeks ago and he did a little of that weird over the neck fingering also. Rock guitar is a real sausage fest and I'm not really qualified to make "best" distinctions. Most of the women I follow I appreciate more as singer song writers than guitarists. Bonnie Raitt, maybe? I don't know.

Good choice. When they cover Led Zep, she holds her own and that is tough, given the competition, and her sister obliterates Robert Plant.

Here's my ringer Will, let me know what you think. Tina Setkic, better known on youtube as Tina S, is a 19-year-old French guitarist. She hasn't put out a new video in two years, but this is her at age 17:

If you're so inclined, she has a bunch of rock solos posted as well. She makes me want to burn by guitars for firewood.

I watched the video of them doing Stairway to Heaven at the Kennedy Center, with Led Zep in the audience. What a treat. Great rendition of the song and I got a real kick out of watching Jimmy Page's reaction. He absolutely loved it, especially the guitar solo and the choir.
