so, this Irishman stumbles out of a bar at 2 a.m....

to take a leak, passes out against a tree by the side of the road.
short time later - a couple attractive young ladies walk by and notice
our man laying there. they remember him from the bar. they shake
him a few times to no response... then one says to the other ' i
wonder if the rumors are true... about how bountiful the irish are,'
and they both giggle... then, one takes a peek under his boxers and
*gasps.* "Mary, Mother of Joseph!... it's true!"
they both smile at each other, then one takes a blue bow from her hair
and ties it around.... well, you know where she ties it. and they run
off laughing.
hours later -- the irishman wakes up. the pressure in his bladder is
roaring and he darts behind the tree to finally take that leak. as
he drops his drawers, he sees the blue ribbon tied in a bow and
without batting an eye says to himself...
"lad, I don't know where you've been....
but I see you won first prize"

They peek under his kilt, not his boxers. No self respecting Irish man
(well at least me and my family and friends) would drink Bushmills. That's
Protestant whiskey. When I was a kid my Grandfather told me the Brits
distilled it with canal water and that they hire no Catholics at all. The
Bushmills distillery is located in Northern Ireland. The first time I saw
the place was twenty some years ago. I went over and pissed on the
building. I was at the Giants Causeway two years ago and passed the
Bushmills distillery. I didn't piss on the building. I consider that
personal growth.

I'm (mostly) Irish but you'd disown me -- don't know a thing about the
culture - other than Kilkenny, Guiness, and the Pogues... along with a
subtle family distaste for Brit propaganda - and never been there.
Great-grandparents immigrated over on Mom's side, grandparents on
Dad's side.
A little Dutch got thrown in the mix somewhere down the line for good
measure.
I have to quit using my girlfriend's email to logon to google groups,
the 'kelly wong' throws people off (she was on my laptop when i first
posted - so i just left it that way [her idea], besides it's a
challenge for me to keep it longer than five minutes when she's here).

But you're right, I don't get his support of the bullshit in Iraq. Or
his dehumanization of Muslims. At all. Since the Irish Catholics
should know better from their own past. Another sentiment that runs
strong in my family is a strong resentment of unwelcome occupying
military forces. The damage they can do spiritually and physically.
Big part of why I am skeptical of things in Iraq getting better as
some like to compare it to post WWII Japan and Germany. Wrong. A
growing chunk of the population in the Middle East are defining
themselves in defiance of the West. I'm not saying cooperation is
impossible and things can't get better... but...
We'll see.
