I've got about 2 months until my 21st birthday, but I'm going to be in
Boston for a conference at the end of June, and would like to spend some
time at Foxwoods.

I've been playing for years, and logged probably a couple thousand hours
online, but I'm still not "legal" to play (I have played in Minnesota,
where the age is 19, and once illegally in Reno). I'm curious if I could
get away with playing at Foxwoods. How hard do they enforce the age
limit? What happens if I get caught playing underage? Would they just
throw me out, or something worse? What would happen if I got caught using
false identification (hypothetically, of course).

Thanks.

Matt

It all depends on what you look like. If you look old enough and act like
you belong, then you can probably play. Not that I'm recommending that, I'm
just saying that it is possible.

As for the fake ID, don't recommend that either. I know that the casinos in
Detroit now use a scanning system to scan the ID and veridy the age. If your
state has a driver's license/ID card with a bar code on the back (quite a
few do), it can be read with these scanners - a fake one would probably not
pass. I'm not sure if Foxwoods has this system or not (wouldn't surprise me
if they did) but if you do run up against it, it doesn't matter how good
your ID is, you will be caught.

You have a better chance at Foxwoods. Mohegan Sun has security all over the
place and I always see them checking ID's.

If you look old enough, you shouldn't have a problem. Just leave your
Teletubbies t-shirt at home and you'll do fine.

The "Gambling Age" in Minnesota is 18, not 19.

There are some trying to change that, but I doubt they will have much luck.

Two scenarios with variations:

1: You come in, act as if it were no big deal and play. No one
questions your presence, you win or lose and leave. No problem, no big
deal. Of course, if you win against ME and I remember this
"conversation" I will turn you in. :-,)

2: Someone, for whatever reason, asks if you are of age
A: You try to use the fake ID
If it works, you continue to play.
If it is detected, you are in real trouble.
B: You say "What is the age limit" and, on being told you have to be
21, you apologize and leave. No problem.

I would recommend obeying the law. If you choose not to, don't try the
fake ID. That is prolly the only way you would get into REAL trouble.

I've been at Foxwoods a bunch of times and never been ID'd, and
although over 21, I'm very young looking. If you just walk into the
poker room and say "Got 4/8 Holdem?" you'll probably have no problem.
If you want to get a comp card, though, I believe you have to show ID.
So don't do that.

I agree with the obeying the law part. If anyone asks, just say you're from
Minnesota where the age is 18 or 19 or whatever and you just assumed that's
the way it was. Chances are, like most places, if you seem like you belong,
then there's no problem.

btw, I used an ID that was not mine only once and I couldn't "remember" what
my street name was.

I regularly used an ID that was not mine when I was in college. I had
no problem getting away with it, probably because my dad is not the
President of the United States.

I got mine from my dorm room RA (Resident Advisor), you know, the guy
who is there to give us guidance and keep us out of trouble. Great
guy. I still remember my 'street name' and if I had a few pops I bet
I could remember my "address."

I had a roommate who worked as a bouncer, he would confiscate fake and
borrowed ID's and then sell them back to the poor slobs for $20. Add
that to what he skimmed off the cover charges and he made pretty good
money working at a college bar!

You can probably get in, but not necessarily. They asked me for my id last
year. No kidding. And I'm 43!!!! Boy , did they make my day.

Also, if you have someone you're with who is over 21, they can go down to the
exit at the back of the poker room (which people use occasionally to grab a
cigarette) and let you in that way. If you look around 21 you'll be fine
because there are no security at those exit doors (they don't open from the
outside).

The age security is not really the poker room or in it. It is the security
guards to enter the casino area. That's good. Someone suggested one entrance.
You have 3 other chances.
As they say, act as if you belong and know your way around. I've seen underaged
kids do this successfully when a security guard was busy answering someone
else's questions. In one case, an older friend was the one asking the
questions.
Not using a fake id would protect someone underage.
Also buying in for a low amount and not keeping too much on the table or too
many chips on you: Might even be good to have a hypothetical friend cash out. I
got pissed at Bally's a few years ago. They didn't question my daughter's
entering, walking around, buying chips or gambling. But when she went to
cashout, they insisted on an ID; fortunately she was 22. Otherwise bye bye
chips!
You're really 21. Just ask an insurance agent.

I took some friends to Foxwoods a few years back. I was the only one over
21. We entered and exited the casino 5 or 6 times during our stay. About
half the time, my younger friends we asked for ID right at the front
entrance. Funny, one of the times, when there were just 2 of us walking in,
my under 21 companion was asked for ID, when she couldn't produce any, I
simply said she is with me and they let her in...heh. My overall impression
is that it shouldn't be a problem for you. I certainly wouln't risk a
criminal offense by using a fake ID.

No, Jan, I wasn't wearing the mask. But maybe keeping the tobacco smoke off of
my face all these years has kept me looking my best!

I don't know about Foxwoods, but I'm only 20 and I play in AC pretty often,
I've been carded almost everytime I've been to the Taj, I used to use someone
elses expired ID and that was never a problem. I have been asked to leave
numerous time (when I didn't have a good ID) but they let me cash out all my
winnings.
On the other hand once in Ceasars, 3 NJ Gaming Control guys escorted me out and
told me never to return, and they threatened to get the law involved in the
future, so it's a toss up. I have never seen any casino on the east coast scan
an ID. (not that I've been to so many, but I look young and I get carded
multiple times a night). So you're probably ok.

Matt,

I haven't read many of the responses in this thread, so I don't know
if I'm being redundant here. If you plan on ONLY playing poker, and
you look like you're 21, and dress appropriately, you have a pretty
good chance of having no problem. When I was 19, several years ago, I
unsucessfully went to Foxwoods. I went about it all incorrectly
though. I walked in with a bunch of other 19 year olders, and one of
my friends got caught, and because I was the driver, he had to rat me
out, because the casino, by rule, had to have him evicted from the
property immediately. We also went to play Blackjack at the time, and
dealers and waitresses commonly ask to see ID on someone they might
think is questionable. However, in all my time at the poker tables,
I've never seen one carding, so you might be pretty safe. A couple of
things to watch out for though...
1) Do not play any table games or slots. If for some reason you
actually hit a slot that requires an attendant, you're doomed
2) Do not attempt to sign up for any comp or frequent player cards.
They require you to fill in your DOB.
3) If you do get caught, you will be banned for life from Foxwoods.
However, you will be able to write a letter asking permission when
you're officially 21 to be let back on the property. This is what I
had to do... No biggie, if you're respectful, they'll most likely
welcome you back. They want YOUR money too after all.

Best of luck Matt,
bc

I went to Foxwoods to play some poker 2 days after i turned 21, and was amazed
that i didn't even get any funny looks. I just remembered the only guys that i
would be worried about are those guys in the bright green jackets standing out
in the front of the room, next to the keno window.

As for dressing, i had my impersonation poker pro outfit with my windpants and
jacket and wasnt asked for ID either. I had some lady at the table after i won
a pot ask me how old i was but i wasnt carded at all. Hope this helps...just
dont try to get a wampum card! just go to the board and ask to be put in a
game. And maybe try to avoid if your with a big group of underage kids to walk
separately into the room.
