It looks like Card Player found a way to get around the US poker "ban"
without risking their business. They started this:
http://www.spadeclub.com

It's a subscription service where you pay a monthly fee for "points", and
you then enter tourneys with those points. Sounds a little bit odd, but I
was considering giving it a try.

Anyone have anything to say about it? Anyone tried it?

If not, I may sign up for a few months and give a trip report on it.

Washington residents continue to be not allowed to play online poker.

Isn't that more because of the limitations on sweepstakes?

Just another Washington state regulation to keep you from online poker.

Been playing on it for about a month. The interface kind of sucks -
you can't resize the windows. I started with the "free 10 day trial"
then they will charge you $20 a month if you don;t call in and
unsubscribe. The only games that have any traction are the relatively
large MTTs that usually have between 350 and 650 players for the
nightly $550 tournament (that's $550 total prize pool). They also
have a $5k every Sunday and a $40k once a month. I would say it's OK
for practice. You can get into the top 30% by sleepwalking through
the early stages and pop into the top 10% if you catch a card or two
and don't get unlucky.

I took advantage of the trial, and God is the play bad. I guess it makes
sense, since these are people who don't want to play with real money.

Looking at the previous actual cash tourney results, it looks like they run
6+ hours to finish. I don't know if I want to spend that much time to play a
satelite and then play an additional 6 hours, assuming I could place in
both.

If they had turbos or cash reward SNGs, I'd be all over it. As it stands,
I'll probably make more just playing well at the regular cash tables. Oh
well... it's a good idea. I sent in a recommendation they add turbos. They
said they're looking into it, but I don't know if that's the usual "we
aren't taking your recommendation seriously" or an actual confirmation they
may be adding them.

I tried the "free trial" which they charged me for anyway, I thought
the sight sucked!!! The software is horrible, the play is horrible,
the service is horrible, everything about it was Painful. Getting
into a good game takes forever because their are not enough players,
but even if their were, the site SUCKS!!!!

Agreed. I don't get how they can see good card room software out there, and
produce this POS instead of just copying the features of better software.

The MTTs for the actual money are pretty long, and there's no option for
trying to cash with a turbo or at least something shorter than a six-hour
tourney. And all THE, of course. No O8 at all, and the rare Omaha Hi MTT is
just to get more "points".

I just missed the cutoff for cancelling the trial, so I'm stuck for the
charge this month. :-P It's simply not worth it, since playing with real
money gives you a better return on investment. If I could, say, pay for
points and then cancel while living on the points, that might make it
worthwhile. Oh well.
