With the economy in shambles, the biggest deficits in our history, record
high unemployment, a jammed-through $2.5 trillion health care bill
Americans didn't want and Obama's job approval ratings sinking like a
rock, some Democrats are jumping ship ahead of the 2010 mid term elections.

"HUNTSVILLE, Ala. A U.S. House Democrat who opposes the health care
overhaul announced Tuesday he is defecting to the GOP, another blow to
Democrats ahead of the midterm elections.

U.S. Rep. Parker Griffith spoke to reporters at his home in northern
Alabama, a region that relies heavily on defense and aerospace jobs.

"I believe our nation is at a crossroads and I can no longer align myself
with a party that continues to pursue legislation that is bad for our
country, hurts our economy, and drives us further and further into debt,"
Griffith said as his wife Virginia stood by his side.

The 67-year-old radiation oncologist was narrowly elected last year in a
district that includes Huntsville and Decatur. President Barack Obama lost
badly there to Republican John McCain.

Griffith also slammed the health care overhaul making its way through
Congress. He was one of 39 House Democrats to vote against a version of
the bill that narrowly passed.

"I want to make it perfectly clear that this bill is bad for our doctors,"
he said. "It's bad for our patients. It's bad for the young men and women
who are considering going into the health care field."

He said after the press conference that his defection had nothing to do
with concerns about whether he could win re-election as a Democrat. He
also said he had not talked to any fellow Democrats about switching
parties along with him.

"If they do, I hope it's on conviction and not politics," he said.

Alabama Democrats defended Griffith against GOP claims that he was soft on
terrorism during the 2008 election, and the head of the state party said
he is disappointed by Griffith's defection now.

"Democrats of every stripe and philosophy sweated and bled for this man,"
said Joe Turnham, chairman of the state party. "He narrowly became a
congressman through the hard work, votes and financial contributions of
thousands of Democrats. Today, they feel betrayed."

Turnham said Griffith should return money to Democratic donors something
the congressman said he would be happy to do.

Griffith had accumulated one of the most conservative voting records of
any House Democrat. He was one of seven Democrats to oppose Obama's
economic stimulus measure early this year and also voted against an
anti-global warming bill pushed strongly by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi,
D-Calif.

Democrats will hold 257 House seats to the GOP's 178 after Griffith's
switch.

Several veteran House moderates have announced their retirements next
year, giving Republicans hopes of picking up a significant number of seats
in the November elections."

Hardly -- he's voted with the Republicans on nearly every vote of
significance since he was sworn in. AAMOF, he was expected to defect months
ago, and AFAIK, has received little or no encouragement from Democratic
leadership to stay.

This comes as a "surprise" only to wingtards desperate for any straw that
might partially dispel the fact that they're a bitterly fractured minority
party with no ideas.

When a medical doctor who was elected as a Democrat to Congress, switches
to the Republican party, because he knows that Obama-care is bad for the
economy, for jobs, for doctors and for the country, that is a major blow
to Obama and the Democrats.

Plus, the nurses association just came out this week against the
commiecare bill. It's a "power thing" with them, though.

Also, the AARP is in bed with the left wing; they'll be getting a
commission on the new commiecare plans they'll be promoting; in the same
way they currently do with "Medicare Advantage," etc. Financially, the
AARP as an organization, (not the members) stands to gain hugely with
commiecare.

The AARPs reputation is shot. Seniors are massively discontinuing their
memberships.

Griffith's defection will help in the total majority numbers needed to
toss-out the Democrat control of (the House) congress. That's the
important aspect.

After the mid-term elections, more Democrat Blue Dogs could defect to
the Republican side as they did in 1994.

It does and Obama care is the perfect example. It contains every kind of
crooked vote buying and pay off deal to Democrats in exchange for selling
out the American people. Hopefully these scumbags, including Harry Reid,
will pay the price in the 2010 mid term elections.

The term Democrat "blue dog" in the Senate is a sad joke. Every one of
these so called "conservative" Democrats sold out the American people and
voted for Obama's $2.5 trillion dollar, tax increasing, insurance premium
raising pork barrel 2,500 page health care bill, Jammed through in a
straight partisan vote in the early hours of the morning. The reason
Obama had this bill jammed through was that he knew that the more the
American people learned about it the stronger they would oppose it. Obama
wanted the deal done before any of these Democrat Senators had to go home
and face the people they sold out.

"Insurance companies" is too broad a term for what is being discussed.

The risks involved in many different sorts of insurance underwriting are
significantly different.

That the government thinks they can take the underwriting out of the
delivery of any sort of insurance without either a gross increase in pricing
or a dramatic reduction in services is foolish and unrealistic.

Insurance is a complex business no matter what risk is being considered.
Politicians are not business people. Government is not a business. The
closer government gets to complete management of any sector of an economy,
the more we all lose.

There is no perfect economic system. Putting the government in charge is
the direction of poorest results. It may be inevitable, however. At least
it seems that way.

Tell me, Jerry, which health insurer has the monopoly in Nevada?

Is it AFLAC or Allianz or American Medical Security or AIG - American
General or Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield or Fortis or Hometown Health or
Humana or John Alden or Mutual of Omaha or PacifiCare or Saint Mary's
HealthFirst or Saint Mary's HealthChoice or Security or Starmark or
Transamerica or UHN or Unicare Life and Health or Vision Service Plan?

And does the Insurance Commissioner allow whoever has the monopoly to charge
any price they want?

And you have no recourse if that insurer breaches their contract with you
and denies a covered expense? There are no penalties?

And that monopoly insurer can drop you without cause if you actually have to
use your insurance coverage?

Like I said, get your money back ... you have no clue what you are talking

No, you stupid lout! Of course insurance companies can deny claims and drop
people and otherwise violate the terms of their contract. But they are not
a monopoly and they cannot charge what they want and violate their contracts
without recourse. You really are dense sometimes.

THAT'S WHAT I SAID! And they're NOT violating the terms of their contract.
Insurance companies have a monopoly and are exempt from anti-trust laws in
that they CAN drop you.

> But they are not a monopoly and they cannot charge what they want and
> violate their contracts without recourse. You really are dense sometimes.

Really? Let's see who's dense: You claim a monopoly is, "they can charge

what they want and violate their contracts without recourse."

Monopoly:
In economics, a monopoly (from Greek monos / ????? (alone or single) +
polein / ?????? (to sell)) exists when a specific individual or an
enterprise has sufficient control over a particular product or service to
determine significantly the terms on which other individuals shall have
access to it.

Get it now? It's been a part of the argument. Insurance companies
('enterprises') can simply deny you; drop you; or not accept you.

> Get your money back on whatever research you think you did, Jerry.

Heh! I had to post it for you. NOW you know what Monopoly means. Now you
know what the argument is about with the insurance industry. Now you know
what we've been talking about. "You really are dense sometimes."

One right and one wrong. If they violate their contract, they get sued.
They can also lose their certification.

You CAN kill someone, Jerry ... but you might pay the consequences.

Health care providers are not a monopoly nor can they deny claims without
consequences.

> Insurance companies have a monopoly and are exempt from anti-trust laws in

There are ways of enforcement when an insurance company violates their
contract or any one of the many laws that regulate their actions. Jerry,
you are a fool.

I made no such claim. You claimed that an insurance company could be a
monopoly and you are wrong.
