I agree that the video game aspect is weak, but why is having armed guards
at schools not a rational way to address this specific problem? The nutcase
was walking around a school shooting children and not a single adult there
had the capability or means to stop it.

This is something that the public sector unions might get behind as long
as the security guards were unionized. It would mean around another
100,000 new members.

We have had a RSO ( armed deputy sheriff ) in every school every day for
many years. A gigantic waste of money.

Who do you think the shooter would take out first?

The nutcase

If all this guy could have obtained was a bolt action rifle with a 3-bullet clip; far fewer children would have been killed by the time the police arrived and the killer stopped killing kids and killed himself. Same with the shooter of Congresswoman Gabby Giffords; he stopped to reload and was prevented from killing more. If this was all any future nut was able to obtain; far fewer lives could be lost in the future. They might not even try ‘setting a record,’ (as this kid wanted to do) and not shoot at all. That’s what this Assault Weapons Ban is all about.

- put a police substation in every school instead of their own stand
alone stations

- require every american to put in 2 yrs of 'school guard' service
(everybody who escaped military service)

- use the national guard to guard schools.

whatever were doing now isnt working. even though i hate guns and would
like to see all of them abolished, i realize thats not going to happen
either. so i'm willing to bend and try the gun peoples idea of arming
everybody. i can see how it would probably pretty much put an end to the
mass killing phenomenon. altho i suspect the rate of indvidual deaths
would go up. road rage on steroids!

Yes, if only it was more like a military base with highly trained armed
individuals everywhere, then this whole thing would have surely been
prevented!

Wait a minute...

I have a question, an honest question. What are the schools like in
Israel? What does Israel do?

Personally, the idea of armed guards in grammar schools is a bit of an
over reaction. Of course, the NRA is in favor of any solution that
doesn't involve gun control and, at the same time, increases the number of
guns.

1. There has never been a system of "armed guards" in our nations history
that didnt become "corrupted" on some level .

2. This will result in a passing thru of thousands of unqualified cop
"wanna bes". If you remember the Hunting Safety Program in the late 60's
and early 70's , you will also remember that the requirement that everyone
getting hunting licenses needed to pass a "Safety Course". I got a
hunting license in 1968 at a local store in Warren PA. , and they should
me a page of rules , I signed it, as did everyone else and absolutely
nothing was accomplished in the way of training.

3. When you recruit a million "wanna-bees" , arm them and put them in the
schools, you will only give better access to those few who will , and they
WILL, snap and commit more atrocities.

4. If you depend on Law Enforcement to train , assign , license and
approve the candidates , it will end up "political" . it will quickly
become a system of political maneuvering and exploitation.

Not much different from obtaining a CCW. A paper target about 15 feet away. If you missed the target too many times, you tried again. And again. Nobody failed the, "Yea, I can point it in the general direction of a target and pull the trigger," portion. Nobody filed 'handling a pistol.' Listen to a few hours of classroom instructions (please stay awake), pay the instructor (the reason he's there) and off you go to the police station to pay (they reason they're there) for your CCW.
