Alan,
If you don't mind would you ask this question on RGP?
Here is a hand that came up when I was playing 2-7 triple draw low
ball.
I get dealt 76543 which is a straight and straights and flushes count
against you, or in other words a straight is a straight.
So, My question is this. What card do I throw away. I tossed the 7 and
drew an 8 which is often a good hand but it was a bad 8 and I lost to
a better 8. My 86543 lost to 86432.
Looking back, my first thought was to just fold the hand, toss the 7
or the 6. I wonder if I played the hand that bad and what others may
think.
Thanks man.

Best possible draw and you lost. Didn't matter what you did, you could
have stayed pat.
Pitch the 6, you still lose with the 87, maybe you can fold, but you
make the nuts on a 2, and you win.
WTF? Was he in the BB and got to draw free? If so, the 6. If not,
don't play this shit!

Hey Johnny, do you EVER get tired of offering your opinion on this newsgroup
when you don't know what the fuck you're talking about? I mean, doesn't
anything embarrass you?
In an unraised Big Blind situation, throwing the 6 is better than
throwing the 7, correct?

I see we have some nitpickers here looking to chink my armor. Yes, of
course you are right, as was Man Beaten by Jacks when he posted also. As an
aside, this scenario would probably only happen in smaller games, and I
cannot imagine the pot not being raise-opened most of the time in bigger
games.
I remember a prop in Gardena I used to play with regularly, (Ace-to-5), who
used to religiously limp-open (called gypsying) and his action was equally
divided between having a weak 2-card draw or a strong pat hand to 3-bet you
with, should you decide to pop him. It was unusual style, especially as it
was one of the higher limit games he played in. It really used to irritate
me, as slowplaying goes against the grain in Ace-to-5 lowball, especially my
grain. But it doesn't bother me anymore. For one thing, I am older now and
much more mature. And another thing, he's dead.
how could you EVER consider therowing the 7 ? you throw the 7 you got 4
chances to catch a 2 and 4 to catch an 8
id rather make the nuts than an 8-6
sometimes I wonder about you
-Nothing personal, but you're full of shit. The only controversy is the
last building that went crumbling down on 9/11. While I personally find
that group ridiculous, you're out of your fucking mind if you're moving it
to the twin towers.

I don't think I was in many unraised Big Blinds in the time I played
it. But it does happen and what to draw to give yourself the best
chance is something to think about.

Both are inevitable for everyone, except for the "mature" part.
This game was played in our local game for about three years but I
knew not to throw the Seven.
I just asked Popinjay to clarify what he meant and he did. Obviously,
you fold the hand except in an unraised blind situation, so it never
came up for me that I remember.
I never played this game in a tournament and I wonder if that changes
what you would do with this hand.

You know what? I am going to have to apologize. Yes, that's right,
Popinjay is going to have to humble himself. I guess my reading
comprehension sucks, as I was paying so much attention to what SHOULD be
done, that is not play the hand in the first place, that I failed to notice
that he had offered a choice between the 6 or the *7*! I just thought he
said the 6 or the 5, which would seem a more logical question, uhh, I guess.
I mean, throwing the 7 is so idiotic that I hadn't even noticed that. Omg!
And as I look back at the original post, it seems our guy actually DID throw
the 7. Wow, oh wow. I guess I really shouldn't talk, because it was quite
beldin-like of me to misread this in the first place. Go ahead, everyone
(except Johnny T) can call me a retard now. I deserve it.

In the NL games at Artichoke Joes all of them required a raise bring-in
(1-1-2 blinds, 4 to go).
-------
I don't want to sound anal, (well maybe I do), but that wasn't really a
raise, imo. I mean, in Northern California-style Straight Limit, the
"blinds" might be 5-5-10, and you OPEN for 20. You're not raising, because
it's a "20" game. The blinds are partial bets. Same with the NL, I mean,
it's a "4-to-go" game. I dunno, you can call it a raise if you want, but I
call it an "open".
I'll take it. I learn and move on. I will be perfect someday.
Playing 2-7 lowball, get dealt 34567. What card do I discard, and why?
Thanks.

One thing I don't understand is why you don't play this hand at all? Has
that opinion changed as part of your apology? If so, disregard what I'm
saying. But this hand seems like a very good starting hand, why would you
not play it? And if this is bad, what does a good hand look like?

They were spreading a 1/2, 5 to go NLHE game at Paradise, north of
Stillwater one night a week for a while, but it dried up. Tulsa had a
regular 1/2, 4 to go PLO game.
The five to go makes it officially a red chip game which tends to speed it
up enough to get in an extra couple of hands per hour.
