My name is Ricco Pollan. I want to make this clear before I post this very
important thread.....I really like UB, and it WAS my favorite site to play
for both real money and play chips. I am still trying to get this
straightened out, but it has become obvious that UB is not willing to
refund the real money tourney players who were cheated. I am including
emails that UB sent to me that completely contredict themselves, making me
believe that they condone such cheating................this really hurts
me to do this, but you HAVE to know what is going on.

Anyone who plays at UB knows that they have been having server troubles
for the past two weeks or so. They have put in a new tournament software
that was only tested once before it was put into place for all to use.
They actually held 5 practice tournaments........but all at once.

Here goes..........I played in 4 tournaments in the past 24 hours and they
were ALL cheated in. UB has a glitch that for some reason allowed players
to "rebuy" chips WELL AFTER the 1 hour rebuy period. This means that you
could go "all in" as much as you wanted to gain a huge lead in chips and
not have to worry about being busted out of the tourney. Here is where the
problem starts.......not EVERYBODY knew about this glitch. Hundreds of us
simply left the game (like you are supposed to do)when we ran out of
chips. We had NO idea that we could simply hit the "rebuy" button as many
times as we wanted to. however........SOME people knew about this
glitch......probobly players who participated in the trial tournaments.

I know for a fact (because players told me)that several players rebought
chips at the FINAL table several times and ended up placing in the money
winners......THAT IS CHEATING.....PLAIN AND SIMPLE.

I decided to watch really closely in the next two tournaments to see it
for myself..........low and behold...I saw it happening right and
left.......obviously the word was getting around. But I am no
cheater....so I reported it "on the spot".....and UB replies with "you
must be mistaken".........but we will refund your entry fee for one
tourney ONLY. Keep in mind, that does NOT include the rebuys that I made
during the first hour when you can legally rebuy. I was furious. So I
decided to prove it to them once and for all by doing it myself and
reporting it as I was doing it. So, I made the final table at the 5:30
Feed 500+30 Satellite last night. I finished 7th.........BUT I DID NOT
LEAVE THE TABLE THIS TIME........I rebought......and rebought......and
rebought....until I rebought $32,000.00 in chips, which made me chip
leader technically. I imediately reported to customer service what I was
doing, and I stayed in the tournament. BUT........I NEVER bet on a single
hand, I folded every one, and even showed the cards to the other
players..........AA, JJ, AK suited.......the great cards just seemed to
keep coming. I was sick at my stomach watching great cards get flushed
down the toilet like that, but I wanted to do the right thing. I informed
the final table players what I was doing, and they insisted that I
continue to do so until a moderator (referee, whatever you want to call
it)showed up to resolve this problem. Players started wondering if there
were cheaters sitting right there at the final table.

BTW, the rebuys didn't always show up in the "chat box" either. I have
already figured out how someone can easily pad their chips...........when
you are switched to another table and you have less than 1000 chips....it
asks you to click an "OK" button before you transfer. Well, if you simply
click "get more chips" before you agree to transfer........you end up with
almost 2000 chips when you reach the new table. TELL ME THAT'S NOT
CHEATING.

OK, here is where UB comes in. I thought "surely" UB does not know about
this. That's why I rebought all those chips (which I was charged $5 for
each rebuy....do the math), so I could finally prove to them that it was
certainly going on, and the integrity of the tournaments had been
compromised. Here is the first thing that they emailed me:

Hello,

I have credited your account with $9 which was the amount you invested in
Tourn 21749,which was the only one having this glitch you are referring
to.

Feel free to contact us for any further information.

Best regards,
Glenn
Customer Service Department

You can clearly see that UB says that it was an "ISOLATED INCIDENT", and I
was refunded. Well, I thought........"great, it's taken care
of"........WRONG. That was done just before the 4th tournament I entered.
When I saw for myself that it was still being done, and obviously was
being done all day long......I emailed them again WHILE I was doing all
those illegal rebuys. Here is the next email sent to me:

Dear RICHARD POLLAN ,

We are sorry.
We are fully aware there was an unusual occurrence with this tourney.
The situation in question was that the tourney gave the option to every
single player to rebuy after the rebuy period was over.
Since EVERY player had the chance to make rebuys after the rebuy period
not a single player was given an unfair advantage over any other player.

Unfortunately we can not and will not refund your account for funds you
did use to play nor will we grant you an entry to another tournament

Waleska
Customer Service Department

OK......WHICH IS IT......AN ISOLATED INCEDENT OR "EVERYBODY KNEW" AND IT
WAS ALWAYS HAPPENING?????????

AND THEY KICKED ME OUT??? FOR BEING HONEST????

THIS time, they insist that EVERYBODY had the "CHANCE TO CHEAT".........so
it was OK. Do you believe this? I CERTAINLY did not know about it inthe
first three tourneys until the Final table in the 3rd one...........so I
was cheated because I could have rebought and won the darned thing, just
like hundreds of others could have........only one thing......we all knew
it was CHEATING.

I asked all over the website if anybody knew they could rebuy all the way
to the final table........of course the answer was NO, and now a lot of
honest players are angry.....and insulted that UB would suggeat that they
would have cheated if they had known about it.

Please reply to this post. I have been kicked out of UB because I told
people about the rebuy glitch.........PLUS.......they kept all my
money........that's right....they stole my money.

They will not even let me in to transfer a lousy $3 that is still in my
account. UB does not want to have to refund hundreds of honest players who
had no idea what was going on, and wanted to shut me up, and sweep this
whole thing under the rug. That is what brought me here.

I have rejoined UB under another screename on my laptop with a Proxy
between me and them so I can tell others about this crap.

To answer your question about my buying $160.00 worth of rebuys to prove
a point............I forgot to tell you that I immediately notified UB
that I was rebuying chips to prove this point, and that I would need a
refund as soon as they got there, and to immediately come to the table so
they could see for themselves......they replied " we will be there in a
moment"........they never came. You can see, I expected them to refund the
rebuys. How could I play with that money? It's cheating, period. I'll bet
if I had used those chips and WON.........sooner or later someone else
would have found out.....and I would have been the "bad
guy"...........which I indeed would have.

One more thing......when I went to mmy account, I noticed thatI was only
charged for $18,000.00 worth of chips.....which indeed supports what I
said about "some of the rebuys didn't register in the chat box where
people could see the rebuys going on".something to that effect is
definitely supported here. Thus, rebuys were made without the knoweledge
of other players. What do you think about that?

UPDATE: I was just offered "HALF" my money back to keep quiet......HALF
MY MONEY? Was I only "HALF RIGHT"? This is a pitiful attempt to keep me
quiet and to stop posting in the forums (over 15 forums now). Do they
think I'm stupid? Either I am right, or I am wrong.....and I think you can
see just how right I am here. So, doI accept the bribe money? I DON'T
THINK SO.

Well, the reason I play there is because I really like the
format.....easy to navigate......MUCH better table angle and view, and I
like the way people can win real cash without having to pay to play in
"freeroll" tournaments. I play in several freerolls a day because it's
great practice. You have to win twice as many freerolls just to win a TEC
(Tournament Entry Chip)to a real money tournament. If you can do all that,
you are a very good player.......not to mention darned lucky. I play real
money tournaments mostly...but the freerolls are great fun. You have to
beat 2500 Players just to get a chance to play in the weekly finals, which
pays a TEC. THEN, you have to win the Satellite.......wow.......that's a
lot of work.

So where are Aaron and the other online poker defender fools who scream
how honest these crooked sites are and how they would NEVER EVER cheat
to make a few extra bucks.

The most disgusting part is not that rebuy cheating was allowed, or even
tolerated (encouraged even?), but the fact that they STOLE the money in
his account for the crime of reporting a glitch in their software. HOW
MANY TIMES DO YOU HAVE TO BE REMINDED THAT THESE SITES ARE UNREGULATED

No it wasnt a play money table it did go out to all tables in the chat
box. it said : PITBOSS: raise, and as soon as it haapppened i sent an
email to support asking y the pitboss is tellin aplayer in a hand to raise
another player in a hand. the response was something like this: we are
sorry for any confusion this may have caused we were merely training in a
new employee on how to use the software. It went out to all table u can
rest assured this had ntohing to do with any one in particular or trying
to give out hand NFO to other players. i replied basically asking y in
the world would u train a new employee how to use the software to chat on
tables that have real money and real players playing and use the word
raise, u couldnt use the word bucket or yellow or hogwash or fold, this is
bullshit and u know it and i want to know y u would blatanly come out and
cheat me out of my money like that. and their response basically was this
was murely a misunderstanding and not to read to far into it and that was
it. you can do a search for my name under authors and u will c the emails
word for word that they sent me when i posted this on here earlier this
month.

If it went to more than one table, then it'd be hard for it to be directed

Given that this apparently went to over 1000 tables, the fact that it
appeared publically at all seems to be an accident.

However, how do we know it wasn't directed at somebody? I'm sure we've all
been on AOL or some other IM program, and accidentally typed a reply into
the wrong box, sending it to the wrong recipient.

For all we know, "Pitboss" or whoever was responsible for sending the
message could have been viewing the hands of all players at a given table,
and instead of giving information to his buddy at the table via IM, he
accidentally broadcast it to the entire site. For obvious reasons, UB would
never admit to that even if they found it to be true, and it would probably
be in their best interests (from a business persepective) to say that their
employees do not have the ability to view hands in real time, even if the
opposite is true.

One way or another, these incidents put a huge black mark on UB as a whole.
I certainly won't play in any of their tournaments if they're running
untested software and players can secretly exploit hidden rebuy glitches.
And, whether or not the whole "raise" issue was misdirected inside info or
an honest mistake, there will always be the lingering possibility that
employees are giving their friends a hidden boost.

That is about the most skewed (or maybe screwed) logic I've ever seen.
Everyone had the opportunity to rebuy but it makes no difference if most of
them didn't know it??? That's nuts. The only way that might have any validity
would be if they stopped the tournament and put up some type of popup
notification stating that the rebuys were available. I'm not even sure if that
would be entirely fair come to think of it.

Let me say up front that I believe you.
That said, when you forward a message to offer proof, you need to send

not allow AOL customers to copy and paste the header in any way, shape or
form. I don't understand why not, but it simply doesn't. Therefore.....if
any of you will email me at toughn...@aol.com, I will gladly forward
the entire emails to you so maybe YOU can post the headers here? That will
clear up any misunderstandings there may be here. One more thing....people
have asked why I haven't included ALL of the replies from
UB..........that's quite simple.....I have about 30 replies from them, all
saying basically the same thing..........."everyone had the same
opportunity to win, so we will not refund you".

I will post every single one if you want me to....but I have one word for
what it will be......BORING. I will, however tell you another emeil that
was sent to me explaining to me that UB has the right to change ANY rule,
Any time, Any where, and all decisions and judgements are made by UB and
are FINAL. This is what they had to say when I FINALLY cornered them into
admitting that they knew about the rebuy glitch all along. Here are a few
of the BORING email that they sent to me which were of course just a big
stall:
Dear RICHARD POLLAN ,

Your email has been forwarded to our supervisor, you will be contacted as
soon as possible.

Here is a typical one with both parts of the converstaion:
Dear RICHARD POLLAN ,

Thank you for reporting this issue. This was a technical problem our
programmers were already aware of, however, it did not affect the game
play for any of the registered players in a negative way as everyone had
the same possibility to rebuy as many times as they wished, therefore the
tournaments were not canceled but continued up to the final tables.

Please let us know the exact hand and table number at which you feel you
have been cheated out of money or the system interfered in your game play
so that we can further review our records and assist you.
If you have any other questions or concerns. We will be glad to assist you.

DID YOU READ THE WORDS "ALREADY AWARE OF"? THIS PROVED THEY WERE AWARE OF
IT THE WHOLE TIME, YET THEY DENIED IT IN THE VERY FIRST EMAIL I POSTED
HERE. HERE IS THE ORIGINAL MESSAGE I SENT TO RECEICE THIS EMAIL RESPONCE:

Subject: Re: Tournament Support Request [#461941]

Any word yet? I play on money games and money tournaments every day now,
and I am sitting here with no money, unable to play. Do you know if
anything
has been done yet? Is there someone there this time of night I could speak
to?

I truly hope that you understand the urgency of this software problem. It
seems like my responses were regarded as unfounded, and on an isolated
basis,
which I believe I have proven is untrue, in fact, I know I have proven it
on
that last tourney last night. I received an email basically telling me
that I
was wrong, and that it only happened ONCE on one of my tournaments, and
that
you would only refund the basic entry fee of that one
tournament........this is
why I purposefully made $32,000.00 in rebuys sitting at the final table of
my
FOURTH tournament of the day.....to show you that is was NOT an isolated
instance, and that the integrity of every one of these tournaments was not
only
compromised, but abused by several players who laughed about it in my face
and
others.

I have now been told that an entire table of players agreed not to say
anything about the rebuy situation, and they ALL made rebuys in order to
up the
payoff of a certain tournament yesterday..........that is manipulation of
a
gambling game.............in other words ....Cheating and worse
off...........Conspiracy.

I know it was only for a few extra dollars, but we were ALL indeed cheated
if this is true. You have now seen that I could down load over $32,000.00
worth of chips in less than 10 minutes......it's right there in my log of
real
money transactions on the final table of the 5:30 Feeder No Limit Holdem
Tourney
last night..............which, BTW...........I did not actually play cards
to
win with one single chip of those illegally obtained chips.........I
simply
folded every single hand and then would rebuy AGAIN, waiting for you guys
to
come and look at that tournament and straighten this whole thing out after
I
emailed you asking you to do so..................but I never heard from
you until
I sent several more emails telling you how many times I had already
rebought
chips in order to illegally stay in the tournament.

All the players knew exactly what I was doing and encouraged me to do so,
they were equally as concerned, and wondered if there were even any
cheaters
sitting right there at that final table. You see, you switch us from table
to
table during tournaments to keep the tables full, and we ALL had the
opportunity to rebuy during these table changes as we were knocked
out..........simply
reappearing at a new table with $2000 of illegally obtained chips, able
now, to
knock out an honest player and continue on playing. They too wanted you to
see what has been going on. There is no telling how many people cheated
yesterday, and knocked honest people out of those tournaments.

Do you see how serious this is? BTW, I noticed that NOT ALL of my rebuys
were registered on my account, nor did I see ANYTHING in the "chat box" of
the
tourney table indicating that I had rebought chips, which makes this
undetectable in certain cases even if you took the time to read all of the
logs. MOST
of them, in fact almost all of them were listed in the chat box.......but
at
least 2, maybe 3 were not. That was actually brought to my attention by
another
player..............he asked me "how did you rebuy on this table, and why
didn't I see it listed in the chat box? One minute you were on your way
home, and
the next second.....you had $2,000 and were in the next hand."

I have risked my entire UB account to help get this resolved for EVERYBODY
(except for the cheaters of course), and the other honest players are
willing
to back me up if you need more witnesses. I have already given you a list
of
witnesses from at least 2 of my 4 tournaments testifying that I am
correct,
and deeply concerned about this software problem. Every one knows you
didn't
release this software like this on purpose, and we ALL LOVE THIS WEBSITE.
But
don't you think you are responsible to at least refund the players who
caught
this glitch, or at least know about it?

Now, it's not my responsibility to make any sort of judgments about how
you handle this situation of refunds with all the other people who played
in
those tournaments and were possibly knocked out by someone who cheated and
rebought when they were already knocked out of the tourney at mid game or
late in
the game......and every other tournament yesterday for that
matter........I can
only speak for myself when I ask for refunds.......the rest is your karma,
not mine..........but I am sure you want to do the right thing. That
software was
definitely not ready to be put into daily handling of peoples money, and
peoples dreams of actually winning something for the first time in their
lives. Too
much drama? Maybe, but I know I have heard people talking about "if I
could
just win something important......just once....I would feel much better".
Please
respond ASAP..............I want to play cards!

Subject: VICTORY!!! UB APOLOGIZES AND REFUNDS MONEY!!!

YES, YES, YES!!! I want to thank you ALL!! Your persistance in this matter
has made all the difference, Ub has sent me a formal apology, and refunded
ALL of my money plus some (when you include the other two refunds that I
did not accept it totals 130.00...my initial deposit), AND gave me an
extra TEC chip worth $100.00. Here is the email I just received (by the
way, I was shown how to include the header with 9.0 Optimized):

Dear Mr. Pollan,

First off, please allow me to apologize. Not only for the problems on the
site, but also for the way you have been treated by my staff. I am in
Aruba with the UltimateBet.com Classic Tournament and was only made aware
of this situation today.

Simply, there was a bug in the code when we put our servers back on line.
We were made aware of it (probably by you) and I reported it to the
programmers. The problem was fixed quickly. I think you know this.

Despite the email threads you have been having, I will just state that you
are right that the tournaments were not fair if some people were rebuying
when they shouldn't have been allowed to and others were not aware of the
"opportunity". I don't believe anybody, us or our players, knowingly
cheated. They were taking advantage of a situation that they, albeit, knew
didn't seem right.

I have refunded your account with everything you have spent on our
tourneys from Sept 25 to 28. This is $72. I have also credited your
account with a Tournament Entry Chip + $9. With this you can enter any of
our $100+9 events. I hope you will use the TEC to give us another chance.
We would like to keep you on our site.

I still cannot find the email thread that cut off your account and cannot
find any reason that you were cut off or your password stopped working. I
trust this is resolved as I see you have played yesterday.

I will use this situation to help educate the team and ensure that this
problem does not happen again to you or to others.

Please feel free to contact me directly should you have other issues,
concerns or questions with UltimateBet. Just put ATTN: Frank in the
subject and the email will be directed to me.

Sincerely,

Frank
Manager, UltimateBet.com

I KNEW I WAS RIGHT. IKNEW I WAS DOING THE RIGHT THING. I asked Frank what
he was going to do about all the other players refunds, and I am waiting
for an answer............but I am sure that he will do the right thing.
Thanks again to all you fellow poker players, and I will keep this thread
updated as soon as I hear from UB again. I am now a member in good
standing again, and I will make SURE that I know what happens to the other
players refunds.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!

Ricco Pollan
